If you had $200,000 to start a business….
Lawdwaz replied to First-light's topic in General Chit Chat
Your about 8 months late........I'd have sold you my business. Plenty of franchised businesses to be had for a couple hundred K down if you want to go that route....................... How old are you, what have you done for employment in the past and now? You wanna travel? Buy a big rig and see the country! This conversation should get interesting. -

Hindsight is worthless. What's the next winner going to be? -
Gman posted this link in another thread. If you were born in 50's or 60's and were as hooked on this stuff as I was at an early age you might want to take a look at some of it. Lots of cool old ads that I remember very vividly. I had just turned 9 years old when this issue was printed, I can't say for sure that I read that particular one but between Field & Stream & Outdoor Life I was always kept busy............ https://books.google.com/books?id=zmoCGEO-nrMC&pg=PA84&lpg=PA84&dq=german+methods+of+mounting+skulls&source=bl&ots=h7fDUukjQD&sig=exrsBCWpyYMmQnuV_kndCQY-S1k&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Q-GgVKbEGYGbgwS-2YOoDw&ved=0CE0Q6AEwDjgK#v=onepage&q=german%20methods%20of%20mounting%20skulls&f=false

Close your eyes and envision a rainbow. Get the idea?

I just searched and can't find (in my limited skills) any that do a TRUE European mount with with the skull sawed, eliminating the upper jaw. All I see are the ones with the entire upper jaw in place............seems everybody features the "Western Style" skull mount but calls it a "European" mount. Traditional European.......... As seen next to a full upper jaw mount.......... Side view........ Back view........ The traditional European mount isn't an easy saw job to do. I'd guess that it takes a pretty steady hand to run that skull up against the band saw blade because the skull doesn't have much meat to hold onto. Probably a few short fingered taxi dudes that are in retirement. All the young guys have all their digits because they don't cut 'em off!
-
That really doesn't answer anything. Just opinions on what some might call a "Traditional European" as opposed to a "European" from some guys on Archery talk. Nowhere is is called a "Western" mount, on Archery Talk or the web.........(that I've seen so far) I've got both kinds but only one with the upper jaw removed, all the rest are intact.

Link? I'm not doubting (well maybe I am a little ) it but I never heard of it and it doesn't come up too quick with Google search.

I'd MUCH rather shoot three of my 80gr Barnes TTSX out of my .243 or two of 120gr (same bullet) out of the 7mm-08. Ain't no deer going to know the difference but shoulder will be grateful.........................
-
I've never heard of a "western mount" before. Can't even Google it.............. Where did you come up with that one?

Have a great Birthday John!

That there is one heck of a story, could be the prize winner for the year. Hopefully a good range finder showed up under your Christmas tree this year..................................

Rubber buckshot - effective range?
Lawdwaz replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
If a bear stepped one foot onto my porch he wouldn't get a second foot up there............and it wouldn't be a toy load coming out of my shotgun/rifle/pistol. Why play around? Kind of like when someone asks me if my pistol is loaded for concealed carry; of course, what good is an empty gun? YMMV -
"Woolster"...........................Happy Birthday my man! I hope you have a great day and get to spend it with those you enjoy.

Pretty sure it was 64 cows but regardless it was their entire herd. The brother not in the video is the one I'm friendlier with, he is without a doubt the best hunter-fisherman-trapper I've ever met. This is the brother in the news clip with a stud ML buck....... Bob with a fox and beaver (among MANY)........

The shoes didn't fit so my daughter scarfed them up for work as SHE needed them too, the pants were a super dark blue, she wanted black....... BUT..........I insisted that she at least try them on and lo & behold she'll keep them! The gift cards were great, clothes rack was a HUGE success and the perfume didn't happen, yet. Oh, holy cow I forgot to mention THIS.......I got her a DNA test kit from Ancestry.Com I saw something about it on another web site I frequent. It looked very interesting to me after reading some of the replies from other guys. Some very revealing things and connections to other distant relatives if you did deep enough. She thought it was pretty cool. We didn't get the kit yet as I just ordered it the 22nd. I printed off the emailed confirmation. They had a xmas special; 10.00 off the regular price of $99.99 It isn't something I'm that interested in but my wife and son are into it.

A couple friends had a horrible barn fire this morning (yea, Christmas morning) in the town of Richmond, village of Hemlock. Bob & Don run the farm but who knows what will happen now. Sad deal, hopefully some fund raisers will be put together to help them out. If you're the praying type, let 'em fly. Thanks http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3659809.shtml?cat=565

Ok, who's ready to talk deer hunting?

Pretty neat to see and hear. I know they are destructive buggers though...... Season open on them? I don't follow it.....

Off the top of my head we have done a stroganoff or two or an awesome oven stew where you don't cook the meat first and it is awesome ! You can always grind it if you don't want to make stew.

Sounds like a wonderful day in the spa my friend Mark! I certainly didn't have THAT kind of soothing experience today but I did get to enjoy the sweet smell and burning skin while cleaning a couple centerfire rifles with Montana Extreme!! Oh the burn is soooooo refreshing. Merry Christmas to you and yours!! Larry
