What's a grouse? Extinct aren't they?
-
A little Rambo-ish? You goin' with the bandanna & face paint also........ I kind of suspected that...................... <grin>
-
You steal that from a surgeon? Seriously, is that made by Schick? <grin> LOL Happy New Year to ANOTHER Dan!
-
I'm so far from being an expert............BUT, you probably would like that Eagles Rare. Somewhat pricy but you ain't guzzlin' this stuff! I like it on the rocks. Give it 10 minutes to settle and then enjoy. http://www.eaglerare.com/10_year_old Check it out!

Makers Mark OR, a new favorite......Eagles Rare. Smoooooooooth stuff!! Found the ER when in PA hunting in the early ML season. Had a dry party one night and made a B line into Wellsboro the next morning. Looking to try something different, the ER got the nod. We survived for another night, barely!! Happy New Year, Dan.

Knives, cigars & hunting? Yea, it could be worse!

That nice post and no pics.................come on man!! The last deer of the season got cut up today. Shot her the last day of ML season and let her hang to age while the weather was conducive. Used my Geno Denning #2 for the skinning and quartering chores. It was such a nice day outside boned and trimmed almost all of it in my shed while listening to some good tunes on the radio and puffed on a stogie. Geno does a real nice job on his knives.

Funny this should come up. We have had a few rabbits hanging around our yard all year. At night, when I take my dog for a walk around the 'hood we would see all kinds of bunnies. For the last month or so all of a sudden, ZIP. Not a bunny any where. If we can get a couple inches of snow that would let me know if I'm nuts or not. I just mentioned it to my wife and a neighbor friend yesterday. I've seen a couple hawks cruising around but that is fairly normal. Beats me..........................

Is this a problem - dual purpose rifle?

You guys reload? If so............. Get yourself a Leupold 3.5-10x40mm scope, have a M1 turret installed on top. Get a pile of Barnes 80gr TTSX bullets, load them up to 3400fps and don't mess around. I doubt you'll be going through buckets of loaded rounds shooting at coyotes OR woodchucks anyplace in NYS. Load up a couple hundred and rock on! That Barnes TTSX will kill any deer walking in the world! After shooting the bullet/turret/rifle combo all summer you guys will need a nice freezer for the fall. If you don't handload, no better time to start! -

Nice production! -
OCD (Ontario County Dinks) .............................................................
-
All the bigger ones are. Some of the dinks and the rattling horns are from Ontario County Giants. (grin)

How are you testing the gun? Sandbags on a good bench? Off the hood of a truck? Leaning on a tree? Most of my friends don't have a clue how to shoot properly from a bench.
-
I agree. If you tried a TW after trying the rest you'd be sold on them.
-
These are the matched pair I found about 7 years ago. They are really nice, might score in the 140's plus? They have some decent mass.....................................
-
Dug them out of the trophy room (basement) and snapped a couple shots.............................

More than a few extremely dedicated shed hunters in WNY. I know a few of them and they are also very protective of their "hunting" areas, sneaky, competitive & yea, NUTS!! I've got a handful, most from 25 years ago when I lived in North Amherst. Picked up a beautiful matched pair about 7 years ago in the same area, seems as though one old monarch escaped the police sharpshooters. It's a fun hobby that can be very rewarding in a few aspects. Good for your knowledge of an area, see a lot of neat things and great for your health! I'm thinking bacon & eggs right now................

I'm thinking we'll get the O.K. for rifle in Ontario County AND Oct 1st bow opener?? Sweet dreams, baby!

I use a Treewalker and have been very pleased with it. I am bigger than average (!!) as I go 240 and 5'11.5" (never made 6') and the TW works great for me. I had a couple Summit stands and they were nice enough but I have no regrets. Summit is probably the king of climbers as far as sales go? Try and test each one out BEFORE you buy if possible. Locate a couple different guys in your area with the stands you are interested in and test drive 'em. Also, check out the return policy of Dicks, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shop. Buy/return or keep. Good plan? Where do you live? I'm in the Buffalo area if you wanted to try the TW as they are a mail order deal. Have a good harness yet? THAT is your first move.......................

Might be a good time of the year to post up pictures of all these knives since we can't hunt deer for awhile......................................Hint!!

I just use old torn and tattered t shirts that my wife's says are done....!!
-
Nice! What bullets are you going to run?
-
I don't know about that. The Sako is a fine, fine gun. The Tikka is better than 90% of the factory guns in production. The Sako is just a bit finer gun. Bluing is a little better, fit & finish etc. are better. The only real thing about the Tikka that could slow you down is the detachable magazine. One more thing to loose. I have a LH Sako Deluxe, a right handed Sako HB varmint gun and the Tikka T3 to use. All three are damn good guns. I'd take the Tikka over a Winchester, Ruger, Marlin, T/C or a few others any day. You didn't get short changed with the Tikka. Save the money difference and get great glass.

Merry Christmas to all! Pygmy & Dinsdale are a couple great guys I've met from this site and I'd like to wish those two a VERY Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! I'd like to meet all you guys at some point, here's to 2012!! Larry
