  1. I don't think there is anything at all wrong with drives. Oldest form of hunting there is... The problem I do have is, do it on your own/private land. Don't interfere with other hunters, be safe about it.
  2. You post whatever you want. More than once someone had a different angle on a comment or question I didn't think of. This guy is trying to get a rise out everyone, seemingly all over the forum. He's pretty much a Douche Bag.
  3. Well you are just pushing everyone's buttons!
  4. Give the stand a chance for couple hours of light, then still hunt. Still hunting is an art though... Very hard to be successful IMO
  5. I would for the full year and only if a portion of the $700 (20%) would be retained for the buy out option. Of course then you need a contract.
  6. I can't stand hunters bitching at each other over preferences and opinions.
  7. Make sure you get back to us with results! Good Luck!

I'm confident that there are less hunters from year to year. But I don't actually think that is the root cause for a very slow opening weekend. Look at the harvest numbers from previous years... 09/10 (+3.3) 10/11 (-.08) 11/12 (+6.4) 12/13 (+0.3) 13/14 (-2.0). This tells me that the "Herd" numbers should be up. How many hunters actually participate as much as they can, those that are truly into it V/S the ones that hunt 1/2 a day, shoot their deer and are done for the season in couple of hours. I think you get the point with writing a journal. The bow season was up and down for me, seen dear and had my chances, but it didn't compare to previous seasons. Only a couple hundred yards made all the difference in the world this season. Did the rut happen this year? You couldn't prove it to me in may area. Yet couple miles NSEW.... you could play hop scotch on scrapes and rubs. Is last years winter to blame and the herd suffered? This has been the worst season as far as weather goes. Windy, Hot, Cold, Dry... very early Mast (Nuts, Acorns...) drop. Bottom line for me is, I don't think it is actually lack of hunter participation.
  13. Double lung is fine. Don't purposely shoot for both shoulders. One you ruin to much meat, two a slight miss to forward could just wound the animal.
  14. Does anyone have an opinion on refreezing venison. I prefer to have it frozen when making my ground meat. I usually grind it an use it right away so its never been an issue.
  15. 150 gr Whitehots w/ 245 gr Powerbelt Aerotips
  16. Hornady 210 gr XTP 41 mag Hand Loads Factory 165 gr Remington Express Core Lokt 30-06
  17. My doe from opening weekend was average I would say. Monday evening I processed a nice 7 point buck by buddy shot on Sunday. He was fat, I skinned him Sunday evening and come Monday I could just peel the fat off of him. From the rump all the way down to his neck half inch thick layers of fat. Nice deer!
  18. Yesterday, 22 deg with wind chill, 30-40 gusts, horizontal snow... The last conditions I expect to see anything.... Huge sneaks in 12-15 yards no shot... Couple minutes later small buck nose to the grind right behind her. I can't tell where we are. This is the first true sing I've seen of the rut here in 4A.
