  1. This is a good video on string jumping and how it does kind of happen and how it still shouldn’t result in a wounded deer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. feeling comfortable at the range and being proficient in the deer woods are different. I don't disagree that some aren't capable, but I do feel even the best archers are running a risk of wounding and losing a deer because of how attractive the head gear is. Like I said, nobody would take that shot on a doe. But we all get antler fever, and we can all be guilty of taking low percentage shots because of it. Same can be applied to gun season with an empty freezer.
  3. yeah but it shouldn't be. none of us would let one fly at a doe at that range, so I think moog made the right call.
  4. just fine for weekend warriors. Heck even some of the HF junk gets the job done when not heavily used. I've had good luck with their power tools and gas lawn and garden stuff as well.
  5. it's not so much the hunter comfort is that the deer aren't going to move as much and why burn a stand so early?
  6. good luck to those out today. way too warm for me to burn a day, plus a little burnt from black bear in the dacks this past weekend. Excited for a nice cool Saturday hunt though!
  7. welcome. be sure to shoot a button buck with your crossbow and you'll have a strong core group of followers for life
  8. so in maine, someone else can punch the tag?
  9. The trend to the black/gray non camo bows is interesting. Someone put it interestingly to me the other day. That the matte black bow just looks bad ass. And a camo bow is just lost in the mix. idk... I'm a sucker for camo.
  10. he looks serious haha. my chocolates were all goof balls, but i loved them.
  11. i've always preferred the backboard to the mount. i know it cost more, but i feel it looks better than the neck coming out of the drywall look. cool pics btw
  12. that's a good point. it's 3 fields but all right next to each other. I understand that it's not a given for any shooting. Sort of the essence of my post I guess. I can kick these things at work and could be totally skunked in the woods. sort of annoying.
  13. i have the field, and I wouldn't bring a gang of guys as I know not many folks like the barrage of shotguns at 6am
  14. to shoot a doe early it'd need to be a high probability shot in a stand where I can retrieve without a lot of disruption and even then i'm hesitant because doe are great bait during the chase and rut. I've been wanting to find a "doe only" type of property for a few years to solve this issue, because I would really like the meat early as my freezer is empty. I'm usually fortunate to see doe during gun and then don't hesitate but its never a slam dunk.
  15. hard question for me to answer as i ordered mine with my new bow, so I haven't shot without it. And given that the bow itself is 15 years newer in tech I have no clue how much can be attributed to the stab. However, I'll say that the balance does feel good. You're not supposed to grip your bow and i can comfortably balance it in my palm/thumb without it dropping. My bow is also super dead in hand and part of that is from the stab. For the small cost ($100) of adding the short stab I'd recommend it. https://www.mathewsinc.com/product/flatline-stabilizer/
  16. the backseats in my silverado fold up. It actually makes a real nice sleeve where you can sort of tuck your bow or rifle between the folded up seat bottom and back. I've been doing this for years and dont bother with the case outside of long trips or storage.
  17. i think you could have found a better pic than that. sorry, 15 years with my mathews switchback to my new mathews traverse. it's a sweet case for the price. made 2 plane rides without issues. Get a short stab like mine. As a spot and stalk ground hunter i think you'd benefit from the shorter stab anyhow. Honestly I've never even had a stab till this bow. I personally believe those giant stabs should be reserved for comp, not the hunter.
  18. that's great. I assume the dogs just make the retreival easier and aren't as necessary as hunting over water? I do have a golden who would have been a great bird dog, but he's untrained and now knocking on 15. Even so I bet as a younger dog he would have taken right too it. Assuming a blind, some decoys and a call and you're basically good to go?
  19. As a kid, like many of us, i took quite a few wasteful lives with the bb gun and .22. As an adult I'm no longer interested in killing what I wont eat. I enjoy bear hunting. I've only been at it 2 seasons, but the rush I got last year at dusk as I heard an animal approaching through the brush is unrivaled. It ended up just being a deer, but it was still a rush. I'd love to harvest a bear and make a rug and I wouldn't feel ok about not at least trying it. If I ever am successful and don't like the meat I'm not sure I will try again. This isn't intended to judge others, just my own personal belief system. wouldn't even try it? Come on, if someone had a lion kabob you'd just turn it down?
