you're not late at all. They say 7/20-8/20 and it hasn't rained anyhow so I think you'll be just fine. -

My spring clover was going gang busters. Now it's still green but barely getting by. I am not sure I agree that patience is a virtue haha. -

I really don't like the spreader I bought. I have a 65g sprayer and have thought about liquid too. Lord knows the water wont hurt lol. I'll look up Ray's. -
I have absolutely had success keeping runs clear and blocking off others. It's next level type hunting and I've seen big bucks not give a F and go through stuff I didn't think was possible. But yeah for sure it works to some degree. I think it's most important when you have a productive stand go bad. Chances are there's a big tree down somewhere and they're now taking a new path.

ok gotcha. Still slower velocity rounds should expand, while the knock on some brass rifle rounds is that they're going to fast and sometimes punch pin holes and don't expand.

Any pro's here recommend going back over the plots with another bag of seed in a few weeks? I obviously wont disc or pack with seeds already down, but is it a waste of money? I know it can't hurt just not sure how things like radish, turnups, kale etc that are in my beets & greens and winter greens bags do without packing/raking them in. Just not sure what will happen with seed on the ground for 5 days with no rain. -

Had some pop ups yesterday and everything was south or east. Looks like my best next shot is this Sunday, which really kinds sucks as we have an all day scrimmage tournament. -
idk man, the SSTs I thought were a lot faster flying round and that's where you could argue they wouldn't expand because of speed. They would be more likely to expand at a slower velocity.

haha totally fair. I'm in the weird spot where some of my hunting land is rifle country and some is shotgun, so admittedly I do not shoot my 12 gauge a lot, but I always check the zero. Honestly it's just not a fun gun to shoot. That said, I have good glass on it and I do consider myself a decent shot and spend some good time and money at the range shooting all sorts of guns that I used to own before my boat tipped over this spring. I am the kind of hunter that will look for any advantage and generally want the best of the best. But I will also say that for upstate NY shotgun hunting, I can't imagine any decent slug offered out there in the hands of a capable shooter wont group in the large vital area of a deer at 100 yards, and even with a novice shooter you should still get pie plate groups. I have shot them 3 years in a row and every year still getting 3" groups. So i'm happy. disclosure. I have no stock in hornady lol yeah that's why I liked the lightfields. I've never even taken a shot at 100 yards and preferred the weight to the distance. You are also absolutely right. Every gun is different. Is your 535 rifled?

5 Reasons American Wild Turkeys Are Declining
Five Seasons replied to Grouse's topic in Turkey Hunting
Mine is similar, but my flock is bizarre. I'll see 20+ for a few days and then nothing for weeks and weeks. A good number of polts seem to have done well too. I've read somewhere that 6 months was the sweet spot, if they can make that long they're usually good for a few more years. When I had turkey populations blow up at my old hunting grounds it was when the farmers would let a field go fallow. It was at an all time high when we had a fallow grape vineyard. It was prime nesting habitat. Now it's all almost always farmed and the numbers are down quite a bit. -

I like that pallet fort idea, especially if you can bring them in via a quad or whatever. Puta plywood roof on and you're good to go! -

Well my kids are in the pool in the sun. Not a cloud in the sky. Weather.com said 30% chance. Accuweather said 80%. depressing -
Honestly these are the first bad reviews I've heard. I had 3" groups at 100 yards right out of the box. I'm using them in a browning gold edition auto if that matters at all.

what ranges were you siting in at with the SST's?

5 Reasons American Wild Turkeys Are Declining
Five Seasons replied to Grouse's topic in Turkey Hunting
I disagree with you a little here. I think you would agree that the hardest part of turkey hunting is getting one in range, not the shot. Sure some of the newer setups can push a shot into the 50's, but most are still shooting birds 30 and under. Getting a bird to even 60 yards takes good woodsmanship, and calling. Heck some birds are scared off by tom decoys. I'm not trying to pick a fight, just that I don't think tech is making turkey hunting easy. -
I switched from lightfields after they became impossible to find to the hornady sabot slug. They're much lighter and you'll need to re-site in your gun but I found they add some distance to your shotgun range. Thing is for me, I'd never take a shot over 100 so I preferred the weight of the lightfield. oh well.

FML everything went south of Webster. I moved a meeting that I probably shouldn't have and rushed to get down fert and seed. Which including a light disc and cultipacking, so not short work. The whole time the skies south were dark. It even sprinkled a little and was thundering. Then nothing. Now maybe a small chance for rain today but unlikely. Next shot looks like sunday... ugh. -

dark here in webster but no rain. Even without seeds in the ground i'm praying for it. Today I was going to spot spray my lawn for weeds and held off. If I really want to rain I should do it, because then it'll rain for sure! -

I know and that's just the thing, with the weather the way it is, who knows if and when I'll plant. I thought about fertilizing yesterday but one of my kids burned his finger on his quad and it just got a little hectic and we ended up calling it a day. With my clover/chicory plot I'm still glad I did the work as the field was starting to become overgrown. Some frost seeding this spring for sure. -
Carry permits, jokes on you suckers !

this. this right here. Even the sheriff's associations are putting out info that they have no idea how to enforce and how opposed they are (not necessarily to the law, but with the lack of input they've had in the law). It's also their way of saying to stop calling them because they don't know either lol. -

about twice a day i check the forecast and it keeps changing. Thursday looked good, now not so much. Now maybe tomorrow. But next week is looking ok. I can't get back to plant till maybe tomorrow or thursday. I did a final disc yesterday so I just need to fert, light disc, pack, seed and pack. But didn't want to put fert down without seed so who the hell knows what's going to grow lol. I was never worried about my spring clover, but man is it looking withered and rough right now. No new growth at all and I think the deer are browsing more there than in the apples or corn which is surprising to me. -

Five Seasons replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
I have a turkey blind still up that I figured I'd leave for the deer season. If you have a spot like mine where it's very well protected from stronger winds and rain I think it's never too early. The only reason I'd wait is for spots that are susceptible to strong winds and wear and tear. I have one in the orchard that blew away twice last year lol. I also don't understand why some guys put there's out the week before gun either. that's too late.
