  1. I bought 2 super concentrate gallons of roundup in the spring. They were like $100 each, but enough to do 2 acres twice. I was very lucky that all 3 of my spots didn't need lime and only a few hundred pounds each of 34-0-0. My clover/chicory is doing well and I'm planning on a half and half fall plot. Thinking beets n greens and winter greens. https://whitetailinstitute.com/beets-greens/ https://whitetailinstitute.com/imperial-winter-greens-annual/
  2. looks like a good time. There was a push recently, and honestly I forget how it went to expand the definition of navigable. It had huge implications on the clean water act mostly, but would have spread to our world of hunting and fishing. Essentially it would have included small trickles of stream like yours iirc.
  3. honestly i think because the street has enjoyed a solid 10 years or so of easy money. They're in denial and hoping it doesn't happen. I wish too that I could essentially just gamble to make money, so I get it. God forbid actually contributing to society.
  4. fall plots are so dependent on rain and I have several weeks in a row in August where I'm away and wont be able to plant. Making me super nervous. I'm probably going to spray roundup in the next week or so. Also, I wouldn't advise skipping fert. Even if you didn't do a soil sample, some 10-10-10 will go a long way.
  5. man that's a bummer. can you postpone it till december?
  6. I see this is an older thread. Navigable waterways has been an ever evolving term and in some cases can even include a drainage ditch depending on how the courts and laws are feeling. Keep in mind that regardless, it's considered the high water mark, not necessarily what it looks like in August.
  7. One of the big fears, which might bite a lot of companies that went all in during the pandemic as that we hit a recession and all these wage hikes and perks given during desperate labor shortages will result in some companies being way under water during hard times to come. Time will tell, but I agree that the quality of what we've hired lately is way lower than what we hired even a few years ago, let alone when I was just starting out. Some of our new college grads are asking for 70's. Not that long ago, new college grads were just happy to get a job. Recently though we've seen some circle back around and take far less after realizing that not many would pay them 70's. Not sure if it's colleges or the media giving these delusions, but a communications major does not command the same as an engineer. Sorry, but it doesn't.
  8. You've never eaten on a beach? haha. My garden is right next to my pool, and I have a hard time relaxing so I was multi-tasking
  9. sounds like systemic racism #blessed lol
  10. i don't understand some of you old crotchity guys. My kids our in my pool for hours almost every day in the summer. Makes for cheap birthday parties and I have no complaints watching the wife sunbathe out there. Sure there's a little more electric cost, some cost for chemicals and opening and closing and an hour or so of maintenance a week (inground). Well worth it for anyone with kids and honestly I'd have one without the kids. Nothing sweeter than a cold beer and a nice dip in the pool after doing yard work in the summer.
  11. that's funny my 12th was this sunday too. my mom got exposed so nobody could watch the kids and our anniversary dinner was cheeseburgers with the kids haha.
  12. deer will hit community scrapes all year long. It's just in the fall that they hit them harder and more frequently. It's good to have them up and going all year if you can.
  13. it was indeed hidden. The wife says she also prefers them 6-8 inches like you
  14. I'm delta gold. I will add time to my trip for that better experience. United has mostly done me right too. I'm 1 trip away from United Premier or whatever it is. I have flown american maybe 3 times in the last 2 years out of shear lack of any other option lol.
  15. I've whiffed twice in my life with my compound and both times the deer went about 10 yards and stood there wondering wtf just happened. I would have totally been able to get a second shot off if I didn't have to pull one out of the quiver, nock it and draw again.
  16. american? you must be a gluton for punishment.
  17. that's exactly it. The balance to get work done efficiently. I'm spending my day catching up on email and stuff I missed during the week. I would have had zero benefit driving in to do it and my body clock is all messed up with what time it is too.
  18. this one was rare. I'm normally a 1 or 2 night guy. Thankfully I'm that guy that flys in and walks around and doesn't have to do much work on travel unless it's a meeting. But if you're flying all the way to the west coast you might as well make it count. Our headquarters is in atlanta so I do get direct there and i'm now almost delta gold haha.
  19. Interesting to hear you're planting now. Most of what I've seen is start the spring plots by mid may and don't start the fall plots till 7/20 and before 8/20.
  20. that looks like tick paradise for that guy in there
  21. just about everything is popping right now and I don't have any more visitors chomping my greens lately, but I know not to get cocky.
  22. I left my house Sunday at 1. Flew to Sacramento and then drove an hour to Stockton, resting my head around 2am EST. Spent the day visiting 2 sites, drove to Fresno, spent the night there, visited a site and then drove 5 hours to LA, visited 2 more sites, stayed in another hotel and flew out of LAX at 6am PST, landing back here in NY at 7 EST. California is gross, and 4 hotels in 4 nights isn't glamorous. Not all work from home gigs are just doing laundry and jerking off. As I said before, not every job is for everyone and that's good for our economy.
  23. we have good compost and soil. Unfortunately my beds don't start getting light till a little after noon. Unless I want to cut down a giant maple that also provides some nice shade by the pool, I'm pretty SOL for spots.
