I'm not a sheep. I've questioned everything that has been taught to me by looking at the data and facts and coming to my own conclusions. Engineers are taught to be analytical thinkers, it's literally what we do and how our brains work. I want data and facts, not opinion. It's why I'm a republican but don't believe and follow every party line. I think for myself and formulate my own opinions and conclusion based on what's presented to me, and you're right in that sometimes we're fed some bs. Covid is a good example, but I'm not a virologist or even and MD so I'm not going to spout off on it like I'm preaching the truth. But I do have a degree and career in the environmental field, so I damn sure will here. Lets clarify some stuff. An opinion could be that abortion is bad for society. A fact could be that the earth is warming at a rapid rate do to increased emissions in the atmosphere. Some have too hard of a time separating the 2 and just regurgitate whatever they read online or watch on TV. What is worse is that people like to hear what they think they want to hear (both the left and right, but mostly the left). They don't like AOC or the green new deal (neither do I btw, but some of it is good), so they tune into a source that confirms how they feel. Every polarized media outlet knows this and feed on it for views and click... to you know... make money. You want to know what? Sometimes Breitbart is right. Sometimes even Alex Jones was right. Sometimes CNN and the New York Times is right too. Stop living in a world of all or nothing. You said earlier that you weren't denying climate change, so not even sure what your point is here. I'm out for the day, going to work on treestands. See yall tuesday.

I don't understand the fireproof thing at all. Fireproof doesn't make it harder to steal. You'd think they'd be happy if our guns melted in a fire lol. The only reason to even have fireproof is to preserve your guns, documents and valuables, but not to protect from a burglar... Like any bad guy is getting their guns from someones house anyhow. Hell, the new law doesn't even require fireproof safes in the house, just locks if you have someone under 18 (I don't hate this part of the law btw). But it does require it for transporting? It's a gotcha bs part of the reg and nothing more.

the way I read it, it's only if you ever leave your vehicle. So for some, that's not at all. But for many they stop to get gas, run a quick errand in a store or on the way to hunting camp they make a stop. I know if I'm going long distance that my gun is in a case to keep the optics protected, but I've never locked it and usually it's in the back of the cab which isn't technically out of site, but much safer than the bed with tonneau cover. Honestly the way the law reads though it says it needs to be fireproof, which nobody can reasonably expect and the DEC comment conflicts with the law.

if you're really capable, bear fat is great to be rendered. Then you have some decent meat (i'd test it) and then some good fat for cooking all sorts of stuff. I've heard that if your meat isn't hitting the spot, that sausage is a good last ditch effort to save it, but can't say i've had it.

this is what I was going to say. If you're putting your cameras in the same old spots, you might just be missing where they are in these dryer conditions. Without giving too much away for @BizCT, I'm happy with what I'm seeing and it lines up to previous years if not better. -
I will have a conversation with you if you let me know what qualifications you have to debate climate science. I gave you mine. I am far from an expert on most things. Climate change and the environment though are areas I'm well versed in. I went to school for it and have spent my entire professional career in the field. If you're a plumber, that's awesome and it's not my intent to talk down to you. But if you and I were at a BBQ drinking beers I would not dispute your opinion that shark bite hardware is shit, even if I thought it was great. That's my point. I know my lane. And again, you're confusing predicting the future of a cloud in the sky with historical proven temperature data that is measured and recorded. You've also again confused carbon dating in the earth with CO2 levels in the atmosphere. C02 of course being carbon dioxide. I've said my piece. I'm happy to discuss how we handle global warming, you might find we're probably more aligned there. I will not have a discussion on whether it is real or not. I apologize again if I came across is belittling, my intent was only to mention my credentials in a discussion about something I'm passionate about. I'd hope most hunters would be passionate about the environment so that our kids kids can also enjoy what we do... but maybe I'm wrong.

spam aside. if we all take a step back to this time, it didn't matter what money you had, meat and other grocery items weren't on the shelves. you bank account doesn't mean shit if there's nothing to sell you.

at least you're not denying that covid wasn't real. Again, we can discuss how we should react to climate change. That's a healthy topic. Electric cars, solar, wind, hydro all have issues. And of course what is china doing etc. Great topics. Similar to covid19. Ok it's real, but what should we do about it then? What's the governments role? Who caused it; bats or people? Great discussion. Just stop pretending it doesn't exist.

Official 2022 Fall Plots Thread

stumps are my mortal enemy right now. In the past the land owner would pull them with a tractor, but some of mine are pretty rotted so I think I'm going to just do a kerosene burn next year. There is stuff you can buy to speed up the decomp but it's kinda expensive if you're doing a lot. Heck i've had stumps grinded in my yard and they weren't cheap. Cant imagine doing a lot... -
I always wonder what the guys on those tv shows that kill like 6 a year traveling the country do with it all.
-
You lost me when you stated that a meteorologist and a climate scientist was the same profession. Thank you for proving my point on ignorance. I could go on and on about how measuring of carbon in our atmosphere and historical data trends are vastly different from predicting which cloud will go where, but I doubt it would matter to you. If you'd like to have a discussion, I'd be interested in your profession and education first and then we can continue. toodles

I don't think I have any groupies. Pretty sure I'm a one man band lol -
I hate how this is written as it's a partisan approach to the whole thing and someone is sucking her tit as they wrote it, but it clarifies some things at least https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-hochul-announces-new-concealed-carry-laws-passed-response-reckless-supreme-court most of the helpful stuff is linked from there to here though:https://gunsafety.ny.gov/ and of course to this "helpful" website, there is nothing about ammo. Just which gun bad, which gun ok lol

I was reading their website this morning. I'm at my 5 year recert in December this year anyhow, but now technically that it's 3 years I guess I'm expired? IDK, last time the police sent me a letter proactively. Now it looks like they're trying to go to an online system, which is nice. Thank god existing owners don't have to take the training class.

Official 2022 Fall Plots Thread
Five Seasons replied to Five Seasons's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
stopped by yesterday to pick some peaches and pull 2 cams. I'm absolutely amazed at the rebound my clover plot had with that rain. Went from life support to bonkers clover and chicory again. Deer are hammering it, but mostly around 3am which kind of irritates me considering it's still summer and not even pressured yet. More growth in the fall plot but very patchy and I believe the result of my thick thatch. It's growing well where I was able to expose good soil and not at all where i wasn't, unless i'm lucky and it's germinating under the hay. Anyhow, I also have some grasses coming up and I'm just not sure what is a grass that came out of the bag and what is just regrowing. Part of what I was worried about is that after my initial spray, I sprayed again after discing but there was no moisture for those newly exposed seeds to germ and then be killed off. Queen Anne's lace seems to be my newest enemy lol -
wow that's crazy. Our tag system is way too confusing lol.

If you want to argue and debate about how we should react to climate change (who should do what, what should the government do etc) that's totally fine and honestly pretty healthy. If you want to deny climate change you're now in a very, very small minority. Even some of the most vocal deniers have now agreed that it's real. How we should react should be how some of you approach this discussion. Denying it makes you look pathetically ignorant, especially when many of you are getting your facts from youtube. sincerely, an environmental engineer.

your regular season antlered tag converts to either sex in mz? I'm not sure about that...

in general, most people are lazy. not all but most. Given an edge to kill a nice buck for a lot less work, many will take it. sad but true. And i think this is why some of us maybe appear to overreact to trespassers. The sheer amount of time and money that we put into out hobby can be wiped out in an instant by some weekend slob of a hunter who feels it's his or her right to just walk onto your land after he spotted a big buck on it.
