  1. Here’s a little video I made from earlier in the hunt. There are actually 9 roosted birds. I only counted 7. 7 flew down at 6:45 after calling for over an hour. Then surprising to me, 2 more at 730! Will need full volume to hear my commentary lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Stupid woods chickens. Had a Jake at 10 yards but came in sideways and silent with a hen out front. I was setup with my mad max blind that serves as a rest too. He’s to my right looking at my decoys out in front of me. This goes on for about a minute before i decide I need to see if I can swing it fast and pop his top. Well that plan fails and he tucks his head and scurries. Thought about touching it off anyhow but didn’t. Idk... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Keep em separate and labeled and use for pattern checks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I give it a B. But only because I think doe and I have similar arguing personalities and styles. We just don't always agree
  5. idk. On opening day I had multiple jakes and a few hens on the ground as early as 5:30. But watched 4 blobs (2 of which i knew were toms) in the trees until 7. A few even flew from tree to tree and changed roosts.
  6. i don't like democrats... yet here i am why is that strange? I make a good living in risk management. I don't wait till someone is hurt to fix a hazard. I prevent the hazard from hurting someone.
  7. get yourself a honey pot. Still a little gray, but from what I understand if you use less than the legal amount of "attractant", (1.5 oz i thing?) the honey pot is legal. Also the sponge soaked in vanilla, anice or whatever you like.
  8. I've noticed on my property of the years that I get some early flydowns and then a second push always around 7am. Is that normal?
  9. so if he shot a mountain lion out of season for the same reason would you be ok with it? taking care of a den that is close to your backyard is hardly full scale war. One might even say a guy who hunted day and night legally all yote season long would be doing more damage.
  10. I agree that they're isolated. I agree that we can't let fear run our lives. But I also understand why a father and pet owner would take the actions that he did and I wont be throwing stones at him. That is all. read all the comments. Seems to be verified. Doesn't contrast with any of the videos i've posted.
  11. for some cuts like chops yes it's about the same. but I think the steaks on a 1.5 will always be better than a 3.5. I dont care how you handle it.
  12. 100% agree with that. Have had some tough "antler" years, but nothing is worse than thinking you might have an empty freezer. Especially if you were all picky choosy during the early season.
  13. It's May and I just spent $150 on a clearance set of snow camo from midway. I might be lucky to use it 2 or 3 times a year. I can promise you I wouldn't have made that purchase if I was only worried about putting meat in the freezer
  14. i agree. I honestly don't even know how I feel about "trophy hunting". There are many benefits for the economy, also much of the revenue goes to breed and protect the animals. I think if there's any detractor for me, it's that some ignorant folks group the lion killer in with the guy who shoots a few doe to feed his family lean organic meat. Overall, I'm obviously pro hunting, and this is an interesting civil discussion we've had (for once). I honestly am not sure I would deer hunt if I couldn't eat the meat... but I also don't think I'm a "meat hunter". i still reside with the group who doesn't believe there has to be a choice.

  16. as long as it's not with a crossbow
  17. I had a doe 20 yards from me yesterday. Never got a turkey under 30 haha. I bet though if I changed it to stalking a deer vs killing a turkey it would change. Tree stand hunting is just such a different ball game.
  18. I think we've all had some bad venison. Just last night we had steaks and rice. My piece was great and the wife's a little chewy. I think back to the process of cutting up the deer in the fall and while we take great care, we can get sloppy with some cuts and trimming. With that said, for taste I'd take some beef any day, but I like venison and it's "free" and so much better for our health. My wife and 3 boys eat the heck out of it, but my 20% pork ground is probably the most preferred.
  19. you don't get it. Maybe this will help. Some of my best hunts have resulted in zero blood spilled. Tuesday morning was paradise and I never fired a shot. sit on that for a while.
  20. well there you have it. Your meat hunters and crossbow hunters are the majority. You've settled 2 great debates!
  21. was just pointing out that some yote hunters do it because they're deer and turkey hunters. To your point, I don't think we all crave antlers because of tv shows and magazines, but many do because it can justify their time and effort, can serve as a verification of talent and represents the greatest challenge. I'd also add that while yes we're out shooting deer for venison, I think some also use the fact that they eat what they kill as justification for horn hunting. "It's ok I shoot bucks, because I eat them". Probably a small percentage, but still some do. Think of the elephant hunter. He's not eating it, but justifies it because the village will... meanwhile all he takes home is a head.
