My dad uses his truck mat. My process is the same as yours, but I wear slip on shoes which allows me to put the outer layers on one leg at a time still Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Weird angle. I️ doubt the hunter intended that... off your high horse now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Don’t expect to post much in this cold. Super layered up in late gun season gear. Very quiet and crunchy. Wish I️ had a crossbow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

can you explain why hunters would want to shorten gun season?

how so? If they're trying to limit the doe harvest, opening up to gun would do far more damage then archery, especially in vast forests like the catskills. -

it is a fact that more people hunt with a gun and it's also easier. to get any deer within 30 (bow or crossbow) is a challenge not many succeed in. -

some states have short condensed seasons and i think it makes for more of a holiday. tons of guys hunting at once and pushing deer. I agree that I like our seasons. When I hunted down south the season was 10/1 till 1/30. I kinda hated it because I was still hunting in January and was really over it lol. -
I may have missed it, but did deer search ever come back?

And I believe you, I'm just stating that not everyone could shrug it off as easily. And that's part of the contempt. nobody is saying they should have sole rights. The agitation comes from thinking someone didn't work as hard and therefore didn't deserve it. I'm not saying that's right, but I do believe it exists. I remember when I was 19. It was my first year in college and I was only gun hunting thanksgiving week at the time. I did zero work to help prep our stands and I shot a nice 8 point my second evening sit. My uncle had been busting his ass all bow season, but was having one of those seasons. He was of course happy for me. It was only my 3rd deer and biggest yet. But I also so the frustration on his face. He never vocalized anything, but I think it's a natural feeling. There aint anyone out there going to give a longbow hunter any shit. He/she put in some crazy effort to achieve that. Heck just look at the dude who shot a bear with his recurve this year. That dude may have broke a like record on this forum. Do you wonder why? Bowhunting has never and should never be about efficient killing. It's meant to be a challenge. The crossbow dilutes that challenge.

you're getting "upset" confused with more of a "aw man, this thing is different than i'm used to and it kind of bums me out". Riddle me this. You put in hours in the offseason growing plots, putting in stands and scouting. You hunt hard all of bow and it just doesn't work out. Your neighbor does none of this and walks out his back door and shoots the big 10 you were targeting with his crossbow. Now he did it all legally without any of the work. You're happy because he scored, but deep down you're not just a little annoyed? Purely a hypothetical and not one i think many archers are proud that they have, but that doesn't make the feeling go away. You all can think a lot of things about me, but being brutally honest is something i have always been. It's tough to put in the time and effort it takes to be successful with a compound and see an influx of a different weapon into the season... sometimes bringing a different hunter along with it.

that's hilarious!

I meant from the same perspective on why i own some of the guns that I do. because they're different, shiny and nice to have. Not because they have an actual practical purpose different than one I already own.

as we've said elentybillion times. a compound can be just as accurate as a crossbow. but yes lets use the redneck blind example. First of all they're not cheap, or easy to get into your favorite spot, but typically found near open fields. So lets say i have this blind setup. With a good rest and scope I'm confident out to 50 or even 60, possibly more on a good stationary deer. I can feel comfortable off my bipod at these distances after a weekend of crossbow practice. Agree? Now take the compound hunter. Yes he can also shoot at these ranges, but most likely after lots and lots of practice. The average swinging dick and forum member here doesn't have the time or ability for this so we're pretty much limited to 30-40 tops. Considering the average ny hunter, your redneck blind setup is just more lethal for the average hunter equipped with a crossbow. and i suppose it does bug the compound or recurve hunter to see a pic of some guy with a nice buck he shot at 50 yards out of his blind. I know i'm not alone in this feeling, and I know not every hunter feels this way either. I'm just being brutally honest on why I have always preferred to see archery left alone. the playing field is not equal and it doesn't feel like archery to me. all these pics of crossbows pointing out of ground blinds... idk man. just doesn't feel right. nothing scientific or factual there. I'm sure as time passes it'll feel normal.

if you watched the live from the woods thread last weekend it was interesting to see the number of hunters who encountered trespassers and/or added pressure when crossbow opened. I'm not necessarily against crossbows because of added pressure, but for some, it does affect them. 90% of crossbow hunters are good, ethical hunters. There are of course a more common stereotype of gun hunter who is now converting to crossbow that worries some, and that worry is not without merit.

i remember one hunt a few years ago where about 40 yards from me i heard them start freaking out and then i heard what was definitely them killing something. I waited in the stand well past dark and when I got down i could still see eyes. I've never done this before, but I took out the knife and walked with it in my hand until i cleared the creek. a literal hair on end experience.
