  1. ok. I thought it was about pre-hunting physicals and bellies turning.
  2. what the hell is this about and why?
  3. when I bought my 30-06 last year I did so with the intention of having a bear and deer gun. Knowing if I was only hunting deer, a .270 would have been a better choice. I sited her in with Hornady American superformance SST165's because I felt 180's were too much for deer and 150's while probably fine, were not enough for bear. I've never been a fan of compromise, but having to resite in different loads or buy 2 guns wasn't in the cards.
  4. I like my lawnmower time. I have a smaller lawn now then I used to but it's still a rider lawn. It's about 30 minutes of music piped in under the ear muffs with no kids or wife to bug me. The smell of fresh cut grass and the chance to drink a cold one after as I look at my nice even lawn. The lawn that in a few days will have lost its even cut, but for a day or 2 looks spectacular. getting a chubby just thinking about it. Grounds way to soft and wet for me right now.
  5. I thought I read somewhere that it was 2 years, but 4 is better. The funny thing about loans is that people don't always pay them. So when you don't pay tuition, you don't get a diploma. But just defaulting on your loan might ruin your credit but your diploma stays and so does your debt with the NY tax payers.
  6. I have owned many brands of cars and trucks. None are without their problems. I chuckle sometimes when someone buys a used vehicle maybe 5+ years old and is surprised some things break.
  7. I wonder if this will be a little bit like medical insurance. When you get your bill, you see what the hospital charges, then you see what the insurance company has contracted. They are pretty big differences and yet the hospital agrees to it. So lets say a SUNY school wants $5k a semester. NY says, you'll accept $2.5k from our qualifying students and like it. The schools going to want their margins back somehow and somewhere. Heck UB just cut a bunch of athletic programs before all this even happened.
  8. the man who dislikes everything
  9. I changed barrels on my 835 to pheasant hunt. So off came the bushnell. Saturday I put the red-dot back on and rechecked the pattern. I shoot hevi-13 and now at $30 a box I can't afford to site in with them. So I have a cheaper box of federal turkey thug 3.5" shells. at 40 yards I'm happy with these results, but it is interesting at seeing the difference between loads. Cheap federal on the right. Expensive hevi-13 on the left.
  10. yeah but my point earlier holds true about the law breakers. We live in a different world. People can't help but take 100 pictures of everything and share. Even dinks. The old school guy who doesn't own a camera phone and breaking this law is probably already out there not tagging. There's no net change. The tint law is a good analogy. I need to tint my car but now even legal tint is failing inspection. I could be a rebel and not get my car inspected, but it's just not worth it. Being legal at my age and with my responsibility even if it's BS is just the better path. just my .02.
  11. agree 100%. Becomes even easier during archery. I think we all know too many guys who barely ID their target before pulling the trigger with a gun though.
  12. see now you sound like the left media who dug and dug and dug till they found a small handful of college kids or some lady with a young family who was affected by the travel ban. It'll never catch it all. You can ignore this law, but you sure as heck can't post that picture anywhere on the internet anymore.
  13. I love these posts. Name me a law or reg that doesn't have some outliers that slip through the cracks. Heck, I bet the DEC gives you a pass on that one. Heck, I'll maybe even take the $100 fine.
  14. I too make sure my freezer is full, the difference is that I wont shoot a small buck to do it. In my opinion a trophy hunter will pass the small bucks in favor of the big ones. Be proud, not ashamed of that if that's what you do. I haven't shot a buck in 2 years. It sucks and I'm not proud of that, but my freezer has always been full. And I'll note, a 2.5 is a shooter for me, not a trophy for all or going on my wall either but a shooter. As grampy said it's in the beholder.
  15. I'm not really on any side of this argument. but you can obtain far more racks by just shed hunting if that's what you're after. why do people feel the need to defend trophy hunting? I hunt for horns. I eat every ounce of meat regardless of sex and I shoot at least a doe every year. But yes, I do hunt for horns. And yes I do it for the challenge and because I like how they look on my wall. Putting horns on my wall doesn't change the meat in my freezer, ya'll need to stop being bullied into feeling bad for wanting to shoot a buck. Stop feeling bad for wanting to take a picture with a 3.5 and make it your fb profile pic or your forum avatar. There is absolutely nothing wrong with horn hunting so long as you still eat the meat.
  16. One pic is the mueller the other the bushnell
  17. that may be the dumbest thing I've read in this whole debate. If I pass a small doe in favor of a larger doe is that because I want a trophy or just more meat for all the work involved?
  18. just remember the woods chicken for your daughter will be sub 40. The $70 bushnell is money well spent. Just my .02.
  19. i have this in camo https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Trophy-TRS-25-Riflescope-tilted/dp/B00CIY7JAU
  20. I originally had a Mueller reflex on my 835. after 2 of them cracked (probably from the 3.5") shells i switched to a bushnell t35 (it's t something i forget exactly). Mueller was good and replaced both, but i sold the second one. The bushnell is kind of like a mini-scope/reflex and i like it a lot. Only thing I wish i could due would be to change the reticle to a crosshair. The only option is a red dot at various levels of brightness. The Mueller also had an auto-bright that i liked.
