the world is a messed up place. i think i'll just stay inside and in the deer woods.

it's a subject that is indeed controversial. I don't fault anyone for keeping one in the pipe. My lcp and glock don't have button or grip safeties so maybe that's part of it. I grew up hunting with long guns. All had safeties and my father beat it into my head. Rightfully so. It's not that I don't trust myself or the gun, it's just a comfort thing. I do religiously practice my draw so I believe i'm pretty good at pulling and cocking. The repetition makes it second nature. If someone is on top of me fast enough where I don't have time to pull and cock, I'm not sure I could get a good shot off pulling and shooting anyhow. If someone is already pointing at me, I'm not pulling anyhow.

which opens up the debate on keeping one in the chamber or not. I know i'm losing time by keeping my chamber empty, but I just cant get myself to do it on a carry. My kimber 1911 full frame .45 is my bedside gun. Most knockdown, least recoil and concealing isn't a concern.

so my local range officer was a retired police firearm instructor. He got me shooting at 3 yards and 7. 90% of encounters are at this range. I shoot maybe once a month and I'm much, much better now. However, we'd be naive to think many guys shoot even close to this amount. All that came with practice and work on my form. I was almost dead on first time I shot a full size .45 1911, and similarly with a .22. It's very similar to hunting in my opinion. Practice makes perfect. And it's not like riding a bike. You need to keep shooting to stay sharp. Additionally, like hunting with adrenaline and stress you're going to suffer. Thankfully I've never been in that situation with a handgun, but I know what it's like in the treestand. So with enough practice you can become proficient with any gun really. For the average joe, I'd always recommend increasing your odds with an easier to shoot gun.

they should have allowed elderly and disabled full inclusion long ago. The healthy and able is another discussion for me. Would also discourage them for youth.

My email: My comments are regarding proposed change #3. I have hunted NY my whole life. Recently, I moved away to Mississippi for work. I still return once or twice a season to hunt with my family in 8F and 7J. I was deeply bothered by the changes last year which wouldn't allow me to harvest a buck had I been presented with the opportunity. I know many friends and family who simply stayed out of the woods to prevent the temptation and to keep their stands fresh. More concerning was late muzzleloader. Many hunters including myself almost always harvest a late season mature doe during this season, however most of us are out in the cold, snowy conditions for a hope that they get one last shot at a late rut buck if we still have a tag. And if that opportunity doesn't provide itself, the doe for the freezer is always great. I can tell you from personal experience hunting public land in Mississippi where there is a week of doe only muzzleloader the last week of bow season (before rifle starts) that it's very disruptive to the archers (who can still harvest a buck). The guns go off and the deer begin to hide. The poaching stories are also rampant. Many unethical hunters view it as an opportunity to get a jump on unspooked deer before rifle season. I fear that allowing muzzleloaders into archery season will upset many hunters. And archers are generally your most passionate, loyal hunters. We're almost all gun hunters as well. I am and have always been strongly against the crossbow. However, given a choice I'd gladly vote for full inclusion before we allow firearms. In summary, it's confusing why the DEC seems to attack such a small group. If you truly want to reduce the doe population, why not include doe only during gun? This is the single largest group of hunters. Personally, I don't believe that's the answer. Many hunters have seen fewer deer in the farm land and open woods where we hunt. The issue is urban sprawl and hunter access. I propose instead the state work with cities, parks and towns to open up permitted archery hunts to reduce populations in these areas where population growth is causing car accidents and resident complaints of destroyed gardens and shrubs. My current hometown has such a program and its worked wonders. Deer Management

i'm a firm believer in shots on target. That's why i advise against a compact 9 or 40 and at least suggest sub-compact. You may have more power with 9 vs the 380, but if your frame is so small that you're all over the map with recoil you'll be upset with your choice. A few 380's on target may not have great knockdown power, but they're still better than no shots on target with a small frame 9. Not sure if anyone rents guns in rochester at a range, but if so it's worth your money to try the same caliber in different frame sizes and you will quickly realize why the compact 9's and .40's aren't a great choice. When I first started shooting my .40 I was surprised at how inaccurate i was at 15 yards. The movies make it look so easy haha. Glock is not known for comfort, features and accuracy. But they're a great line for reliability, value and offer a good line to choose from. If you try the G19 (sub-compact 9mm) vs the 27 (compact 9mm) in the same caliber you'll see why you want the larger frame. And while not a great carry choice, the full frame G17 is even nicer to shoot. http://www.gandermountain.com/Guns/New-Guns/New-Handguns#filters?do=json&i=1&nav=1&q1=510&q2=510E&q3=510E1&q4=New+Handguns&q5=New+Guns&q6=Guns&q7=510E1A&q8=Glock&q9=.40~7E20S~7E26amp~7E3BW&x1=cat1&x2=cat2&x3=cat3&x4=t3&x5=t2&x6=t1&x7=cat4&x8=brand&x9=CALIBER&cat_depth=3&matched_cat=510E1&is_refined=1&ckey=X4Dht6PyG9b8nYFBQHVoGg

I own a glock23 in .40 and a ruger lcp in .380. I prefer the .40 for it's power but as others mentioned I find myself carrying my pocket lcp far more often, even in the winter where an IWB is easier. Truthfully the kick is about the same for the smaller frame lcp. With only 6 rounds and a relatively small caliber bullet the .380 doesn't have me feeling invincible, but I feel it'll handle 90% of situations I may end up in. I picked up the lcp off gunbroker with the laser for under $300. It's not the smoothest, sweetest shooting gun but it's easy to carry. I honestly suggest you get one of each as time and budget allows, but I'd start with a 9mm first. And I wouldn't go with super compact. Get the mid range frame.

Probably. I'll probably just check in less and stop visiting as much. So there, you can rejoice in that. The owner too should rejoice. -

Tapatalk doesn't filter them out. It's really sad what these 2 have done to this site. Now that deer season is over I'm sure it'll get worse. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Can't even give it a rest on Christmas? -
I found a spot yesterday looking for sign with 6 fresh empty beer cans. I like a cold one just as much as the next guy, but getting loaded with a firearm and littering really speaks to who some of our neighbors are.

Yet everyone knew what he meant -
I hope many of us view ourselves as not just hunters or sportsman, but outdoorsman. I hope many of us appreciate and value the peace and beauty of the great outdoors. I believe we should be even more appreciative as our pheasant fields are turned into walmarts, and our golf courses built around our creeks. Anyhow, I don't understand why we leave behind the garbage that we do. I constantly pick up water and beer bottles near the public land I hunt left behind by fellow hunters. I also don't understand why a mostly conservative group tends to be the loudest voice against environmental regulations aimed at reducing pollution. Regardless of your opinion on global warming, anything we can do to preserve our earth should be welcomed. What we've already done with regards to polluted soil and water is fact. I know many of us remember not being allowed to eat the fish out of the Great Lakes. Please guys, as a group we need to do our part to keep are woods and our waters clean. Remington 783 Problems (miss loading from clip)

Interesting topic, Just sited in my ruger American 30-06 this Friday and had the exact same issue. It would really only load properly if I pressed my palm on the bottom of the mag. Called ruger Monday and they sent me a new mag overnight no questions asked. Didn't even have to send in the bad one in. Tried the new one out yesterday and it works great. I'm very impressed with rugers customer service. What rounds were you shooting? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Just curious, did you just plug it in and put the meat in? It takes a bit to get to the correct temp and if you waited you might have realized it wasn't working. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Winchester vs Nosler Balistic Tip
Five Seasons replied to Five Seasons's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
No, and only because I've convinced myself that someday I will hunt something bigger. I know it's not correct to think this way but I've always subscribed to bigger is better. I shoot 3.5" turkey shells, and a 30-06 for this reason. The only time I don't subscribe to bigger is better is with handguns where shots on target are more important to me. The rut is in full swing here in north MS. Perfect weather this weekend but no sittings on my Sunday sit. In the woods now but it's almost 70* and that's just stupid. -
didn't get to use mine 2 years and no bucks. first year and a while I didn't at least stick a flat head.

GE no longer owns the appliance division. It's owned by Electrolux now.
