  1. great article. I agree with all of it. Generally I snap a few cell phone shots to share and then later try and take some nice pics with the DSLR. Only thing missing is not mentioning sitting 10' away to make the rack look bigger
  2. I really don't know for sure. But I could not see her and have no reason she could have seen me. I've certainly gotten away with worse and been busted for less... This sport can be frustrating haha
  3. I've never seems someone complain about long threads as much as you. Just move on if you don't like it. You just bump it every time you post.
  4. I generally only wash outer layers of I somehow get dirty or bloody. Base layers get sweaty and washed often. Everything hangs outside all the time under the porch.
  5. Wind changes. Unless you're in a climber your stand should really positioned to conceal you and provide good shots to as many lanes as possible. Inevitably deer will always do something different than you expect. That's why I've always been bugged by the "hunt the wind" guys. Deer can and will do anything especially during the rut. Studies show after the guns go off they even can run with the crosswinds
  6. While I can't say I've done testing and compared them, lightfields have never done me wrong
  7. The ruts about a month away down south, my last day bow hunting was this morning as I head for NY on Tuesday... So sick of not seeing anything I hung a wick this morning. Big mature doe comes down a run. She's still concealed I can't see her yet and she stops about 20' from the wick. There's basically no wind but she is downwind of the wick. I move my leg a little to better position to draw and she blows and runs off. Talked to my dad about it and he states he stopped using scents years ago after a huge monster winded his and circled to avoid it. What says the Internet? Scents good for small bucks? Bad for does? Somehow busted my silent subtle movement? Too early for scents?
  8. but if I cross an invisible man made line I can shoot that deer 30 minutes after sunset... I can smoke that weed... I can marry my cousin... If you're ethics are defined by the government; let alone THE FREAKING NYS GOVERNMENT than I feel for you man. I define myself by how I was raised and my religion, not by politicians.
  9. even in the woods my smartphone reminds me of **** to do My favorite stand is the one without any reception
  10. ethics and what's legal is not ALWAYS the same thing. For example, I don't believe it's unethical to smoke weed. I don't find it unethical to speed if you're rushing your pregnant wife to the hospital. If the law says I can only carry 7 rounds in my pistol, carrying 8 doesn't make me feel like a sleazeball. Point being, spotlighting and hunting in THE DARK would be unethical practices. Letting a deer suffer after sunset instead of putting it down seems unethical to me. Taking a deer 3 minutes after sunset doesn't make you a monster in my eyes.

  12. December 19th, CVA muzzleloader 22 minutes after sunset. 50 yards. 4x power on the Nikon scope. he went 20 yards and died deader than a fart. Could clearly see his "dark" horns, on public land where I have to abide by a spread and beam AR, plus have to turn in the jaw bone. They rarely move on public land during light. He came flying out of the bushes to check a scrape I was setup on. legal in MS Illegal in NY
  13. ditto. i can do about 15 min after for bow. 1/2 hour is fine for scopes. I have yet to set the full 30 minutes past sunset this year in MS. Just wouldn't take a shot.
  14. you're the one who trips on roots and falls down when you step on a grouse. I think most of us able bodied fit individuals do just fine walking through the woods with a headlamp in the dark.
  15. trust me, there are some days where 10 minutes after sunset it's tough to see down south where 30 minutes is legal. It's all about common sense, and point is. at sunrise and sunset you can still clearly see. At 30 minutes past on a full moon snowy ground you probably can too, but there's a line and most states and hunters know 30 is a legit cutoff.
  16. You'll never get anyone to admit anything wrong online. I believe there's probably actually only a few like growie that set an alarm and hop down from the stand. the law is dumb. that's all there is to it. They want more deer killed, but wont adopt a rule that many other states have. They want more deer killed but they screw us over during bow and mz season. I just don't get it... btw, your attitude sucks and that's what rubs people wrong. Although most of the holier than thou posters I bet aren't in compliance with the safe act either... but hey that's different right?
  17. we know, we know. you're in the political section.
  18. you might get better responses and less people left in the dark if you didn't write a novel everytime. I've never made it past paragraph 1 of your posts. clear concise thoughts are your friend.
  19. correct that is my turkey setup. weaver rail mounted to the receiver. no cantilever on the turkey barrel. cantilever or not, i would still shoot a few rounds if you changed the barrel. Should shoot a few rounds with any gun anyhow before you go into the woods. If you're deer hunting only, buy the 835 that comes with the rifled barrel (more accurate better distance barrel for slugs) and then you can always buy the turkey and bird barrels later. here's a great reference for the combonations http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Mossberg-835-Ulti-Mag-Turkey/Deer-Shotgun-Combo&i=613931 mossberg even makes it easy by labeling the combo based off species hunted. and like i said you can add the 3rd barrel later for not much money
  20. well done Joe. Any stick and string harvest is a trophy to me!
  21. Few guys in Mississippi landed in the ER this year with climbers. Neither had harnesses. You just have to be careful, take your time and plan your climb and decent. For me the decent is even worse.
  22. You need to tie your harness to something. What I was referring to is a rope you wrap around the tree and tie to. You adjust it as you climb up and down.
  23. I'd suggest a 1 to 4 on a slug gun... and still doubt the pattern of the slug and the shot would be anywhere close. I see your point on the reflex but that'd take some getting used to. however, it is also a good excuse to buy 3 guns! here's mine with my old Mueller reflex and pure gold choke. added the sling and highly recommend the limbsaver recoil pad.
  24. it seems like something that would be an issue but i've never had an issue. I still wont climb some of the really rough bark pines or real hard trees though regardless. If our climber can bite, than the wet doesn't seem to bother, if it can't bite it's tough no matter what and some water isn't going to make it any easier. always tie off with a prussic not and cinch as you climb!
