  1. I refuse to believe you graduated school, you have yet to type a proper sentence. But keep coming at me, I can come right back at you as it's obvious the mods will let the personal attacks go in this one.
  2. you won't get anyone to relax on here. When your opinion is different or in the minority they smell blood. It's gotten worse over the last year or so too. If you're liberal, from the city, anti-crossbow, pro antler restrictions, trophy hunt etc. You're not welcome. It's sad really, because the diversity of any group is what makes it strong. I often wonder why the comments of a few members being discussed by a few dozen hunters worries so many. It's a small forum of like minded individuals with similar interests. We're not making policy here.
  3. Like I said last page, I'm done with that topic. I refuse to have a discussion when someone like the OP repeatably resorts to personal attacks and childish tactics.
  4. and all I guess I'm trying to spark is that we self police ourselves. I see it here all the time. We come down on guys for taking poor shots, and then someone else defends the poor shot. I believe gun owners and hunters should self police, and a lot of that starts with our youth. I commend those who are out there mentoring. I can't wait till my 2 boys are old enough and I personally have started recently working with the boyscouts. Again, separate from the thread topic, but when someone in our community is doing something legal but yet may be irresponsible we owe it to ourselves to call them out on it before we're stuck with more setback, dawn to dusk, tagging and gun restrictions. Why do we even tag? because not every hunter can control themselves.
  5. cotton field haha. ticks are bad down here but not a big lyme disease issue. spiders too. creeps me out. Had a gobbler coming in around 9 and I either didn't fool him or I blew it. he was behind me at I think around 100 yards. Happy to get some action though.
  6. I assumed it was obvious we were talking about combat style rifles being used in hunting. Everything from any civilian legal bullpop, m4, etc. to even SMG's like the p90. All legal and relevant to the discussion on what the pros and cons are of using them in the deer words versus grandpa's traditional bolt action rifle.
  7. So switching topics from ARs and hunting: Do you guys ever wonder where laws come from? Think about OSHA regs. 90% of them exists because of some idiot did something dumb at work. Think about driving laws. Where do they come from? If you are ok with a hunter using a howitzer and I understand it's tongue and cheek, realize that eventually they will regulate it out because someone will take it too far. Think about why we have setback laws, several counties with shotgun only ettc. Many of these laws came about because some irresponsible idiot ruined it for the rest of us. I disagree sometimes when the comment is made "As long as it's legal". We've had many ethics debates on this site, but the reason why is because there are still many unwritten laws that if we're not careful will become written. Again, I'll point to the idiots open carrying their ARs in target.
  8. no idea. this thing is old school. No settings, just an adjustable vent at the top. already on that haha. My grandpas supposedly has a nice industrial one collecting dust I'm going to try and "borrow".
  9. First batch turned out ok. Thicker pieces were good and the thinner a little too crisp. Went with soy sauce, liquid smoke, brown sugar and crushed red pepper
  10. Son has an appointment with pre-school at 11, so I figured what better time to hunt public land than a random Tuesday? Overcast but high 50's. A few am gobbles after light but apparently I'm not fooling anyone. Still beats the hell out of work.
  11. that's how i feel. a camera hunt would be fun!
  12. the question was with regards to why the military uses them. So get your facts straight too please.
  13. It's no secret that the fact that I'm opinionated bothers you. And it's no secret that when our opinions differ you go after me. I didn't call any one person a nut job so just stop. I said some of the pro-gun guys get this label because they're just simply unwilling to listen... just like the extreme anti-gun group gets it the same. You cannot say how the crossbow has impacted ny hunting yet, it's still too early. So give it time before you say I was wrong. My pictures? Just proving that all you need is time in the woods, good scouting and 1 shot. Society in general is looking for the quick fix. My fear is the AR is being selected because it allows for quick followup shots (that was some of the words used in this thread). My fear is that KNOWING you have 2 or 3 shots made lead to rushed and wounded deer. Yes, this is no different than any other semi in the woods. But it's in line with why I asked my question. It's the same concerns I have with crossbow. It's very clear all hunters don't have the patience that some do, and that's hard for me to get my head around. If you're hunting with an AR because it's all you have or because you prefer it, but you're a responsible ethical hunter with good marksmanship then I have no qualms with you. Honestly, I'm over the discussion. It's run its course, but to be brutely honest I've left this with a poor taste in my mouth... and it has nothing to do with the AR in the hunting world. It has to do with the comments made about fellow gun owners and advocates. good day.
  14. The same reason you're upset with me and Stubby is the same reason you get a bad rap by the public. You get super uptight like a sphincter in February whenever someone brings up your precious AR. You go to extremes that you know are pure BS. You're blowing it way out of proportion... because that's what you're use to doing. Ever wonder if you just stopped freaking out about everything and went at life a little more diplomatic, rationale and open minded to others way of thinking you might get farther? You might not come off as extreme and nut jobby? I am not and have not lied in this thread when I told you I was moments away from picking up an M&P AR at a gun show and decided on pure financials alone it wasn't a good move. I can still pick one up this afternoon in a heartbeat. The more you guys go off, the less I feel I want one. I'm sure Culver will chime in that he'd rather I not own one... and if that's how we're waging our war... good luck. I've never known a group that casted out their members to succeed with their goals. If you can point to one, I'll gladly cancel my NRA membership and never dream of owning an AR. btw, black gun. 1 shot. public land mz.
  15. dang, what's the barrel length on that bad boy?
  16. the manual said 24 48 hours. rotating trays at 18. seems way too long, i rotated at 10 hours in this am and they seem done. I'm glad I only used 2.5lbs worth of meat if this turns out bad. On the other hand i'm worried about under cooking and not killing bacteria.
  17. it's clear that you haven't read most of this thread. It has never once been said someone shouldn't hunt with an AR, but again I'll state statistically most do not and there are numerous reasons why. So why someone would risk using one in the most intolerant gun state in the union when a simple modern accurate bolt action will do the job is what's confusing. When the response is "just because I want to" it opens the door to the above scenario because it just doesn't seem very practical or worth the risk. When the debate turns foul instantly it furthers the point. So, if you just want to try something different, just say that instead of waving your second amendment flag around to a bunch of people who are holding the same flag.
  18. haha found this online. first batch going now.
  19. Still a bolt gun though. Why not just by and use an AR? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. The AR is used in combat for every reason mentioned already in this thread. They're reliable, allow for larger mags. Select fire, adjustable stocks, pic rail, shorter barrels etc. a great overall gun. Snipers use bolt actions because they just need one shot and prefer accuracy over the Positives the AR offers above.. Which is also generally short to medium range. A perfect distance for the NY hunter sure. But it appears I'm not alone when I believe a hunter should be more of a sniper looking for one good clean kill. I didn't tap dance, some of you are just bored and looking to fight with a fellow gun owner and hunter. The bolt action rifle still accounts for the majority of guns in the field, there's no survey I can find but we all know that's true. So if the AR is the best selling platform why don't more hunters use them? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. That sums up why some are against it, but like your said in your first post with the yearling hanging from the tractor, those against them have been waddled down and accepted defeat. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. The length of this thread is really related to the site being slow I don't. As stubby pointed out, at first I was curious. Then I was attacked and had to defend myself... And as a result I can no longer be in the NRA... Sort of like when cuomo said conservatives weren't welcome in NY. I'm sure we will do well in our second amendment fight when we cast out our own... I mean why work on fence sitters when we can actually turn the opinion of those that agree with us against us? Good grief. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Good advice. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. I grabbed a dehydrator from my parents this past weekend. I remember we bought it in the 90's some time. It's a Ronco and I believe it was an infomercial or something. Anyhow, does anyone have any tips? i defrosted a bunch of steaks and plan to start the cutting and seasoning process tomorrow. Was going to grab some of the pre-packaged seasoning for the first time around Times? Recipies? Tips and Tricks?
  25. You live in one of the most liberal states in the country. You basically have 0 gun rights and you think a gun owning conservative voting NRA member is the problem? Someone who will most likely own an AR one day and not hunt with it? I think this guy from NH is just sick of shooting targets with his expensive ass rig. That's what I think. Why he would risk the muddy gun laws of NY still hasn't been answered.
