If they stopped all Buck hunting.
Five Seasons replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
I would still hunt. But the time and effort would drop off. I'd shoot the first 2 or 3 doe I saw and maybe sit once during gun. I love the outdoors and that's the main reason I hunt, but if that's the case I'd have more fun hunting squirrel or rabbit and moving around instead of just sitting there. I'd make sure to fill my freezer but the time and money I devote is for the bucks. The money I have invested in gear is pretty deep and I really only need about 10% of it to hunt in general. I'd be sad thinking of the money if it was just to harvest a doe* *plentiful in my neck of the woods. Also, I think what keeps a lot of us in the woods is pursuing the buck. Let's say you can take 2 doe. Why pass any decent doe? Seems a lot would be done early because there is no passing. Maybe this applies more to bow hunters than those who just hunt gun. Bow plus gun is a long time... -
To let deer grow old you need at least 500 acres. That's not many of us. So if you have 100, the argument comes into play when your self imposed ARs aren't working because your neighbors don't practice the same. I'm not trying to advocate with this post, just hoping to enlighten some in why some would like ARs.

Some state land doesn't allow target shooting so be careful. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

40 with my 835. But that's with heavi13 and a good choke. I'd go less with lead ammo. Just me Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

i got the model down. Did 3 year this year and honestly I can't feed it fast enough. It's quiet and quick. Just a thought. Could save you some money and it's still all metal gears and great quality. I think like anything in life you just need to take good care of it. I clean it thoroughly and let it all dry and followed the instructions for care to a T. Recommends you keep the plates matched with the blade. I bet a lot of guys dont do that.

usually fine. how bad do you need it is another question. if you've got a full freezer and can't remember the deer and how it was harvested and cleaned i might toss it.

He has very little ego. And he does a good job of inserting his sponsors in without it being stupid and silly like some shows. I loved the episode where he got rushed by a wounded moose. He was honest about it being stupid. Not a lot of macho TV hunters would do that.

I don't think those with good land should be punished or made to feel bad that they're fortunate enough to have it. Whether it was lease, permission or purchased with hard earned dollars. Good land in and of itself is a great challenge. There are plenty of guys who have great land but have to drive 30 minutes to the nearest grocery store and an hour to the mall or hospital. If you choose to live in a city you don't have these challenges. Culture and convenience is all at your fingertips, however you may have a tougher road to good hunting. Hard to have it all in life. I grew up in the country and love it, but it comes with its issues. I will not be made to feel bad about it. I'm not saying your hunting isn't hard. Perhaps with ARs you start seeing more and better bucks? Who knows...

Very well put. Absolutely spoiled hunting some good land in NY. Then hunting virtually unknown public land this year in Mississippi and really what are different deer helped show this to me. I knew it would be tough, but it helps you appreciate what you have and I've never been so excited to harvest a doe. I was blessed later with a nice 9 and it meant a lot for me to hear a lot of locals have been hunting the land for years and never taken a buck like that. I certainly chalk some of it up to luck and that's hunting, but I also know I busted my ass, spent plenty of days seeing nothing but using topo maps and scouting and finding rubs and scrapes paid off.

A 2.5 is a nice buck most of the time. There's a line we can't cross with ARs. This is kind of why ARs are such a hot topic. A buck is a buck and a harvest is a harvest. Hard to decide and agree what's ok and what's not ok to harvest. Maybe you can look at 2.5'a and argue they've had more time to grow and provide a better challenge and it's more of a "fair fight". I honestly don't know. I just think you need to draw the line and a 2.5 makes sense to me. Just my opinion.
