kind of one of the things that suck about public land, but they have every right we do... although I doubt the walkers and hikers who are just as annoyed by hunters don't realize that our license fees are what help keep those trails groomed and opened.

I had a deer die 50 yards from where I hit him and only 2 drops of blood. The angle had the arrow come out the guts after i sliced the lungs. Guts plugged. When you don't have a good exit hole, you don't usually get a lot of blood.

you're blowing it way out of proportion man. I have not tried it because it doesn't seem like a tactic that would be worth the effort. I'm not sure that's being closed minded. I shoot deer every year. Not all our giants, but what I do works. If you remember, the whole thing started because you or someone else were flipping out about "rut hunters". I made a comment to you because nobody else seems to, but through pm's i know many feel like I do. It was literally meant as a little jab and nothing more. Like I said, if it works for you that's great... we can probably drop the whole thing now as I know you can see I was joking at the beginning of this thread. still waiting for pics though

i think if you called and explained, they would rather you find your deer than a member. I might even go the "ask for forgiveness later route"

larry where'd you get it for $500? is it the axis or the 11?

I don't discredit it... I find it funny how much you tout it. Your posts come across sometimes to me as all knowing and the best way to hunt. I'm actually pretty sure you don't mean them to be, and I don't think i've ever been disrespectful in countering you. As I've said before I think it's fair the members can hear both sides nad decide for themselves.

So opening day is over. What happened out there?

out of curiosity; why didn't you shoot the bigger buck? -

generally what I think I've heard, what I've done and I think what is happening. Lots of deer could be down, but a little early to stick a doe or small buck. I like to save my dmp's for later because unless you're loaded with them, they're the best bait you can have come late October. -
we used to pee in our mock scrapes. not sure why we stopped, i'm not sure the stuff in the bottle is that much better.

he brought in physics experts? I'm sorry but this all sounds like a bunch of bull. No reason he can't come in here and reply to the thread, he seems intelligent enough. Post a pic of his ticket or fine (name blacked out is fine) and I'll shut up.

Feels like turkey hunting from a tree stand, but 2 doe and a spike in the first hour. Good to know I could have meat in the freezer and glad I'm going in late today. Good to be back in the woods!

lmao!

totally understand shaking like a leaf... do you practice from height at all? I suggest you put a stand up in the back yard or shoot off a desk to help you practice the angle. On a side note, some of you guys posting after you see deer is amusing to me. If you see a deer you should be up and looking, not on your phone! haha.

i've never been a big pee freak. I've read that it's bad, and i've read that deer are curious to it. so idk... I forgot my release once, got a shot at an 8 pointer too. Went fingers at 20 yards and it flew a good 5 f' into the dirt before the deer. Never again, backup in the bag now. Isn't it kind of funny how long it takes us to get ready and what we forget the first few days, and how quick we get ready and how prepared we are a few weeks into the season?

my grandpa would take tin foil and coat hangers. hang a piece of flashy tinfoil from a string or coat hanger around its neck. works like a charm, although goofy looking.

I don't feel bad being in the office when it's 70* outside. Still wish I was in the woods. Tomorrow... good luck guys.

Interesting F&S article by David Petzal on respecting your quarry

well said sam. -
duck hunting and some of the more social hunting is cool with me. Deer hunting is MY time. lol.

$5 says he doesn't come back

that is the problem sometimes when owners just want the deer gone. They're not loyal and figure that the more hunters the better, when that's far from the case. It's sad to hear about friendships being ruined over this kind of thing.

my parents have an untrained miniature dachshund. that thing can track like nobodies business. -
1. personal preference. Don't worry about dirt though, you're going to drag him/her on her back. Look into a cheap drag roap, sled or better yet a cart to make it easier though. drag it to a spot where you have plenty of room to gut it. A tree also helps sometimes to keep them from tipping over. Without the guts they weigh less I always try and kick some leaves on the gut pile too. TAKE YOUR TIME. There's no hurry and if you've never gut a deer it can be a little intimidating. When he/she's back at camp hang it up and do some more trimming inside. 2. no idea. 3. You bring it to the butcher, generally they don't require an appointment but you have to make sure they're open. Generally depending on the temp, it's good to let them hang a little. You tell the butcher you want it caped if you're going to mount it.

there are a lot of odd things about this post... 1 of which it being your first. But I'm going to leave it alone.

anybody that hunts in pines may have had a screech owl bombing... not annoying but definitely a drawer changer.
