enjoying nature, the peacefulness of the woods, the thrill of the chase, the reward and i'm sure there's some primal urges we have that fuel us to go out and conquer. Really enjoyed hunting when i first started with a shotgun, but it wasn't until I got into archery that I became obsessed. I was introduced by my father and my whole family hunts. So a lot of it for me is tradition, memories of hanging out in the barn with gramps, and uncles.

a good fast flowing cold creek leaves little chance of giardia or cryptosporidium. It's what we've done as humans to the earth that leaves me weary.

I never said a masters degree proves anything, but simply pointed out that in order to teach you at least have to put in substantial investment of time and money first. It may not prove you're a good teacher, but it does prove you're invested and dedicated. I know PHD scientists who are brilliant, doesn't mean they can teach. I know some excellent, patient teachers with very little education. But I'd hope that when they're writing on the chalk board they use the proper grammar and spelling. So yes, there are 2 parts to being an excellent teacher. Knowledge and the ability to convey your knowledge to others. All of us have had our good and bad teachers. But leave sports out of this. Statistics prove children involved in sports or the arts achieve better grades then those that don't. And they're more likely to stay out of after school trouble. And in some schools, the ticket sales from football games help fund the less popular sports. I played 2 or 3 sports every year of middle and high school and always did better during the sports season.

was it the posts on property taxes, crossbows or abortion that sucked you in? haha jk. welcome!

so true. the stories and things i've done. Now my wife, baby and I are in bed by 10 on a Saturday night. Which supports my hunting hobby very well. haha.

dont lump us all in together. Many of us belong to a party because generally it more closely aligns with our values then the others. But there are many things I disagree with that my party supports. Why we should do away with the party system in general. But I do find it interesting that you want govt support for those who fall on hard times (welfare). So do I. But then you want that person sterilized to collect the check? So if I'm a 25 year old non-working parent. My spouse dies and I fall on hard times, I'm not given a chance to collect myself, possibly remarry and then start a new family? It's amazing how simple some of you believe welfare is. If it was so cut and dry, we wouldn't have the mess we do now. Did you know in Michigan a lottery winner continued to collect unemployment after making millions because lottery winnings aren't considered income? http://www.globalpos...erdose-get-rich the answer is to fix the loopholes, drug testing, and checks/balances and limits on our social programs. But when the bleeding hearts see the welfare abuser finally put out on the street... we scream injustice, and "oh what can we do to save these poor soles?"

very far from it my friend. But ignorant arguments and points don't help the cause. Instead point out how much of hole he has dug us with the national debt, And then when your opponent points to Bush, you can counter with the fact that it has increased more in 4 years under Obama, then 8 under Bush. Point to unemployment rates and failed energy programs. Use facts that matter in politics and you'll have a better debate with the other side. Spew facts about his origin, race and religious beliefs and you'll be instantly branded as a Fox news zombie and you're not addressing the real issues with him as the president. And your points will be ignored. Here are 2 freebees: He said he would not raise taxes on the middle class, but on the first of the year the social security tax breaks expired and all of our paychecks became smaller as a result. A database of those mental unfit to possess a firearm would not have prevented the CT shooting, and is in direct violation of Obamacare, which states no databases may exist in regards to ones health. -
haha my wife hates turkey season. you're no fun, lets go out. "Woman, I'm getting up at 3:30!" haha.

Joe, you gotta drop the Muslim president thing. Would you also still like to see his birth certificate? -
just curious, but why? I loved my time at UB and then on Elmwood. Spent 2 more years in cheektowaga which was kind of blah and then owned a home in Alden for 3 years that I really enjoyed. and you wouldn't want to pay the $20-$30 more a year to help fund sports, arts, computers and better education? I guess I disagree with some of the union rights that teachers enjoy, but other than that our schools are deplorable and need all the help they can get. And if the money bumps do go to teachers, then I do hope it helps to attract better teachers. Dont forget you need a masters to teach in this state. That's 6 years of loans.

the only one who has the right to comment on this subject is Grow and the other ladies. The rest of you MEN, should leave it alone. it happens man. I had a few close calls in high school but thankfully never that turned into tough decisions and we were very careful. You can be as responsible as a teenager can be sometimes and your urges will get the best of you. Think you have a condom on you, got her all warmed up, laying there in front of you and ready to go and realize you dont... which head do you think wins that decision?

agreed and i think i pointed that out earlier. The bigger cities are great when you're young and single, but don't always make sense when you start a family. Heck I lived in downtown buffalo for 3 years in college. That place was a dump and we were robbed twice.... But I could walk to the bars, and walk whoever I met back haha I loved the JAPs who attended UB. All they did was bitch and moan about the city and town, while they slowly failed out. All on their daddies dime. Most never graduated. pony tail, sweat pants and headband year round.

do you have kids? how long has it been since they or you were in school?

i saw that and read the first sentence and that was all I needed to know. haha -
i agree with this as well. I'm not a huge turkey hunter, so I generally just have my box call, some slugs, a few mouth calls, owl and crow locators, powerbar, thermocell, binoculars, facemask in pocket (because i cant hike with that thing on) and decoy bag. that's enough crap for me. But I realize some more experienced guys bring several calls because sometimes one works and the others dont.

I chuckled a little at Rochester being called "the city". We have the worst financial situation of any of the major ny cities, jobs are decreasing and crime increasing. If you're lucky enough to have a good job and live outside the city it's not so bad. The less traffic the better in my book. And that gander mountain in henrietta is a joke. There's nothing there anymore. The one in Tonawanda is/was leaps and bounds better.

Everyone should visit. Nobody will force you stay. It helps give you some perspective of how the "other side" lives. Case and point, my best friend from college grew up in Manhattan. We attended UB together. And he came home to stay with me at my parents one weekend in our log cabin. He thought it was going to be like Abraham Lincoln's cabin. A few hikes in the woods and a night in the hot tub with some drinks and 2 girls I knew from from high school under the stars, he began to see what I loved about the country. A weekend of crazy bar hoping with no driving and a taxi cab drive to a concert and Yankees game and I saw what he loved about the city.

If you're insinuating that I'm a liberal, you've proven nothing.

depressing man. depressing. the local armory thing actually could come reality. the caged herd... i doubt that.

pros and cons to both types of livings. for me, i'm in favor of country living. I enjoy the fresh air, the land, the storage for my toys. And I like to drive my cars and ride my motorcycle. I appreciate the city for what it is. I'm not big on going out on the town anymore though. I think that's why a lot of families end up moving to the burbs. Does suck having to drive 10 minutes to get anywhere and 30 to really go somewhere though. haha.
