yeah same. i went from what i thought were tomato smelling weeds to flowers and now some ripening fruit!

there is a good theory out there for those that are denying CWD and other whitetail diseases. Ask the denier if they'd feed the brains of a cwd positive deer to their loved ones. You'll find out pretty quickly that they're full of sh!t. And yes I know it hasn't jumped from deer to humans, brains or no. PS I wouldn't eat a cwd deer meat either. Just wouldn't, don't know about yall.

anyone have random tomato plants sprout? I don't know if they're seeds from last years tomatoes that fell off or the compost but i have random plants growing outside my beds
-
careful with brains and certain diseases.
-
I've heard the whitetail tongue was really too small after all the trimming to make it worth it. And the kidneys also weren't great. thoughts?

can a regular pressure cooker work for canning? Or does it need to be something special? We have the pressure cooker, thinking i would just need the supplies... and to kill more than 1 deer haha.

at first i thought the pans were dumb, but it was a nice addition after seeing a lot of the blood drip through. Made cleanup and packaging easier. Get the lids too if you want to stack, but note they're not air tight. I still haven't had an issue with them stored over night in the fridge waiting on being ground or boned out.

I will happily collect any balls harvested in 8F and throw them in the freezer, then on Christmas I will ship them to Wolc as a present from all us in wayne and monroe.

you're missing out man trust me.

no and no. haha

this is on my long list of things to try.

he's another meateater guy. I was not going to do go to extremes with my bear if I ever get one, but listening to him talk so much about the fat over the years I now feel like I'd have to save it haha.

there's a new product that's an electric silver skin trimmer but i'm not going to be the first to try it, but if it works... it's probably worth every penny. I encourage everyone to save their hearts. I can't think of how many I've left in the woods but have recently been making heart tacos and they're delicious. The liver on the other hand... well I tried but that's staying from here on out.

the method i use referenced above

that's interesting because he talks about vac sealing all the time on the podcast. I wonder if this was an older episode or in the field? Anyhow, I learned out of necessity. I too had always taken my deer to a butcher and then i moved down south. After a few phone calls I learned there wasn't any around and so I took the old youtube. I started just like my dad and uncles by quartering and then boning out, but have since moved to boning out while hanging which I much, much, much prefer. I've since grown my setup to include dedicated meat totes and cutting boards. I like to butcher and pack all my steaks and loin on day 1 and then save the grind for day 2. Storing the grind pile in a meat lug in the fridge. Some stuff I've added over the year that I'd recommend. https://www.lemproducts.com/product/economy-meat-lug/lem-meat-lugs (plus cover) https://www.lemproducts.com/product/meat-lug-drain-tray/lem-meat-lugs 2x for placing all cuts onto the cutting table https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C81T4R8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZYXMKT1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 a great starter kit https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/outdoor-edge-butcher-max-11-piece-game-processing-set?ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=Shop|CAB|TopPerformers|Hunting&gclid=CjwKCAjw95yJBhAgEiwAmRrutGNh4bU_v3KJtrnk3i7hodaA0GfxjzTcJ5HZ14FJJqIptd_b5tfhyBoC0f8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.dshttps://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/outdoor-edge- I also bought a good all purpose sawz-all blade that i use to cut the rack off easier. Just make sure you peal away the hide first.

What Are Your Goals for the 2021 Season?
Five Seasons replied to Splitear's topic in General Hunting
mine have not changed from the past 3 seasons. I'd be very happy with a 3.5+ and 2 doe. I'd be satisfied, yet a little uncomfortable with two 2.5's if they're nice racks, unique or big bodied. I most likely would not take 2 though. I will still not shoot yearling bucks. I'd be disappointed with just a single deer in the freezer regardless of sex. editing because f'n phade nailed it ya bastard. My real goal here is to enjoy some time in the woods. To get my 2 oldest out there at least once each. To get a little me time in the woods and to be safe doing it. -
wait a second, are you f'n with us. You climb up the tree with a grappling hook style rope???
-
you'd have to imagine if he stays pretty nocturnal with only 1 eye but on the right day you certainty have an advantage on him if he's walking the right way haha.
-
I liked using my climber on public land to hunt/scout. But you're absolutely right about noise, time and sweat. Eventually when you find a tree that you keep climbing, it's a good idea to just stick a ladder or hang on there. That's what I'm doing with one of my spots this year.
-
I'm surprised you're going with so many with only a month of summer scouting; or are there very obvious pinch points, fields, ag etc?
-
another 12? wow! And in august to boot!

America's Most Ineffective Deer Management Program
Five Seasons replied to Grouse's topic in Deer Hunting
On a podcast released about a month ago Steve mentioned he bought an AR... and applied for a suppressor. He is for sure a green decoy. -
My tomatoes are popping daily, eggplants in full force and butternut squash all coming in. Bell peppers cranking out too. Cucumbers are about done and a weird year for them, just didn't get the normal bumper crop I normally get. Bean about done too and lettuce and spinach all been done for a while. Zucchini looks to be about done too and something stole a lot of my corn lol.
