  1. let me throw out something else as well. And this won't be popular. Before yall lose your shit on me, remember I own semi-auto rifles and handguns and firearms that have no purpose for hunting. Remember I belong or have belonged to and donated money to pro-2a groups. So now that is out of the way You can support firearm ownership for hunting and have little to no need to own a semi-auto rifle. Do some semi-auto rifles present an advantage in some scenarios vs a bolt action/lever/pump? Sure, but by and large they do not. I have a father and uncles that can run circles around the number and quality of deer most of us (myself included) harvest. They own multiple rifles and shotguns each. None of the 3 own a single semi-auto rifle or pistol between them. Rinella, the meateater brand and many other hunters could and probably do support ARs and other firearms out of principal (my dad and uncles do as well), but outlawing them wouldn't change a thing in their approach to hunting. Please don't take that as my personal belief, but only as food for thought. And save your breath on the slippery slope counter-argument please, this is purely an observation on the current state of the country and the 2A.
  2. Ok so lets look at this differently. There are plenty of democrats who are still pro 2A. Sure, the list is smaller than the republicans, but there are a few on this board. This guy may throw money at dems and we can all agree that in no way does that help our cause, but perhaps his reasons are not just 2A? Maybe that's a small part of it? I'm not trying to defend him, so I hope that it doesn't come across that way. But I do think that Steve and his brand have done a lot for hunting and conservation for the new generation of hunters and fisherman.
  3. no issues hunting the burbs. Just that i think we can all agree that they act differently than a big woods public land bird is all.
  4. I didn't disagree with that, but this isn't a black and white issue, there's gray and nuisance to it. Steve himself is the face behind the brand even if he keeps accepting the cash or if he cancels the whole deal. Steve is Meateater, not the investor. Both of your points are valid and I understand your concern. My only point is that this investment hasn't appeared to have changed a thing other than broadening its hunting and fishing content. Will there be some big ole bait and switch down the road? Maybe... but then they lose their investment. Why would they partner with a gun manufacturer? What would the investor gain by ruining their own investment? I also stand by my point that the investors opinion on gun control doesn't necessarily mean he runs an anti-2A org. That's his opinion. Just like someone may be anti-abortion but doesn't necessarily picket outside clinics if that analogy works for you.
  5. for those that wont click the link above. He is a principal investor, he's a democrat who doesn't support trophy hunting and has called for semi-auto weapon bans. so "owned" and "anti-2a org" aren't necessarily completely factual. Nor would they dump 20+M into their investment if they wanted to push an agenda?
  6. I think there is some truth here, but your comments don't include the whole picture. Admittedly I'm a fanboi. Why he hunts, his banter/style and the fact that he's influenced me heavily to broaden my horizons beyond turkey and whitetail and what I eat is in large part why I watch his show and listen weekly to his podcast. Steve has brought on both republican and democratic politicians and generally supports conservation regardless of who is pushing it. Gave props to Trump for the wilderness act and expressed concerned about the native american selected to the dept of interior or whatever it was. He's made bets that trump would win a second term and I've listened enough to gleam where his leanings are. Through all of the last 4 years they haven't changed their tune at all and in fact partnered with weatherby... Anyhow, your point is fair but this is a quick easy read for some more color around the "principal investor" https://meaww.com/meat-eater-inc-who-owns-steve-rinella-hunting-show-netflix-anti-gun-activist-peter-chernin-pro-biden
  7. sounds like the burbs? Maybe a little different than stewart no?
  8. see above. having to adjust because you don't have a choice is very different than planning that out as your strategy. No?
  9. thank you, that was exactly the point. Not that it can't be done or isn't possible or that any movement will always result in failure, just that the strategy doesn't make sense. If it was a photo op just say so lol.
  10. Not sure we could prove each other wrong, but I don't think a gazillion turkeys are killed by bow, let alone a bow outside a blind...
  11. if we can leave turkey hunting for a second this is 100% the case for all hunting and fishing isn't it? We've all completely screwed up and been successful, we've all done it textbook and failed. That's what makes it great.
  12. didn't say it was a deal breaker either, but certainly if movement happens it's not by design right? One doesn't go out turkey hunting and setup with a plan to have to move prior to the shot. Sometimes it happens just like you said, and sometimes it works, but it should be avoided if possible no? The whole crux of the argument was that the setup required him to move, not that it might happen and was his plan b. Does that make more sense?
  13. Jesus man why is everything a fight with you? I've never met someone like you who views any slight disagreement or even a question as a challenge to fight. This is a forum. People make points and agree and disagree. Buckmaster is showing exactly how that's possible without getting his panties in a bunch.
  14. which is why more than a few of us were surprised to hear that someone would just raise their head over a rock, then still have time to raise their gun and shoot lol
  15. looks like a hell of a jelly head on that 2nd shot though, congrats!
  16. i think that was the point... a private land bird will always freak at any sign of movement, so the thought of a public land bird not doing the same seems almost impossible given the added pressure. I don't question your hunting ability bill, but it struck me as odd as well. I was brushed in well behind a blind and was busted once with my gun already raised and all I did was lower my head to look through the site lol.
  17. been out twice only as well. Normal gobbling, shots at 2 hens but no beards. No drive this year with this cold and damp weather. Throw in life and all that's going on and this one might be one to forget. But there's still time and I'll try and get the kids out at least once too.
  18. Shot a bearded once early in my career. Didn't know it was a hen at the time haha. Curious, did you know it was a hen when you shot? No judgment, just wondering.
  19. The giant flaw in your statement here is that you assume we can know who is and who isn't vulnerable. Sure by now we know it's mostly the elderly, those with comorbidities, but back in March we didn't know that and throughout this whole thing plenty of seemingly healthy people have died. How bad could it have been if we didn't put controls in? This isn't just an American problem. Just about every major country has had their ass handed to them.
  20. Yeah I guess me waiting was just thinking new model years might come out and given the world of tech, they could be substantial. I'm pretty good with tech, i've built my own computers so I'm not too worried, but I get your point about not waiting till the last minute. Honestly the other reason I've waited as I can't seem to find a clear winner to go with. With non-cell cams you can mix and match and trial and error. Not so much here.
  21. made some good money off ssrm. If you figure the chip shortage has a supply chain of its own, start with precious metals.
