What is this country coming to??
Doewhacker replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Dave congrats on being able to cut and paste, I was just wondering if you infact do know anything about our country's history and who founded it, and so on. It seems as though you do not have a firm grasp on it. The Freemason's are largely responsible for founding this country and they are 100% for separation of Church and state, the Catholic Church does not like them. Its the 1st amendment for a reason....you know the one about Freedom of Religion ect. -

And by the way, I am sure our US military is strong enough to take care of us and will not likely need a few guys with hunting rifles missing the hypothetical enemy. -

I bet if we lined all of you fellas up and delayed the nodding heads by a second we could get you to do the wave like at sporting events. Both sides of the political spectrum aren't worth a poop if you haven't noticed. -
Then I would go for the 7-08, .243 is capable obviously but I would still want a little heavier bullet. But I am a more is better kinda guy.

With a 1 in 48 a conical should do well as Pygmy stated, and they do load easier than a PRB. My Lyman loves the set up I use. Here is one I recovered from a doe this year, it went through the base of the neck, the off shoulder and stopped inside the skin. She didn't even flinch.

I shoot a 7mm Browning, some say they kick like a mule, I don't notice it. Mine is a tad heavy weighing in at 10.2 pounds fully loaded and scoped. That is what I do not like about it, evey thing else is super in my opinion. Longer range than I will ever need in NY and enough power to dang near knock the snot out of an elephant. I see the 7-08 but have you considered the 270?

What kind of dog do you have CThunter? You may have mentioned before and I forgot. I have two, a GWP and a WPG, the Griff is the younger of the two but is doing exceptionaly well thus far.

A good Grouse dog will learn how close to be to avoid bumping the bird and how to check cover. Some dogs are great open field runners and others are great thick cover close workers. Depends on the dog.

Absolutely, one of the big reasons I shoot so much in the summer.

Im guessing that barrel has a slow twist in it so you will likely need to go with a patched round ball. I use a Hornady Great Plains Bullett, 385 grains and 90 grains of black powder.

Nice! I gave thought to going but it was too cold for me and the doggy to bother. Maybe this weekend I will make it down to Worcestor, we'll see.

This from the town's web site.. "Saratoga County owns and maintains forest lands within the Town of Northumberland that provide for passive recreation and the protection of open space. The “Fire Pond” tract, located on Pettis Road, consists of 123 acres of forest. The largest tract, bordered by Duncan, Colebrook and Taylor Roads, consists of 377 acres of reforestation lands and is located in the central portion of town. The county preserve also includes the 104 acre Kalabus woodlot, which is located at the end of Gailor Lane in the southern section of Northumberland. The county manages these lands for timber production, but town residents and visitors use them for hiking, biking and other recreational uses. Only recently have gates been installed to curb littering and illegal dumping." It looks to be fair game aswell, I am going to have to check it out some day too. Looks like a pond I might be able to use for dog training..hmm

13 killed by 4 is only about 3 deer a piece, not an absurd amount for one guy in one year if you ask me. My own family here, we can and have eaten 3 deer by June. "But to just grab all the tags you can just to hunt longer and kill more deer that you don't need for the sake of killing... I have a problem with that. I know it's all legal and such... but that kind of hunter greed doesn't sit well with me. " I agree with this Antler.

Are talking about a land of make beleive or something? Is this the same guy that shoots the 10 deer a year in fantasy land NY? I do some what agree with your point about shooting more deer than can be used. If I were to ever have a great year and some how come home with the mythical ten deer in NY I would take the next year off from deer hunting and bird hunt.
-
Burt what if its 13 guys killing 13 deer? I know you are saying its bad if its done on one chunk of land but who's to say it is?
-
I saw a hunting show from out in some where like Minnesota or somewhere like that and they had a doe weekend where they all got together and did drives. At the end of the weekend they had killed some thing like 95 doe, and there were still plenty left to run around. They did this every year or two because it was necesarry to keep the population in check. Most of the deer were donated to the feed the hungry program that was in place there.

I only know about the county land because I drive by it every day, I live down the road from the one side of it. But you can look through the tax maps if you had time, I know county land some times shows up on google maps too. The land by exit 16 is for sure state land, it goes from Edie Road over to Scout road and Ballard, which is the next chunk over from the preserve area. Some of it is Boy Scout land, hence scout road. I see guys deer hunting it all the time, there is a parking area right before the train tracks on Ballard road. That is another chunk I go by every day and yet have never bothered to look around.
-
There is some county land and more state land further past Parcel 45 for you fellas that are interested. A larger piece of state land is off of exit 16 and there is the Wilton preserve too, the county land is off of rt 50 heading out past parcel 45. Go to Ballard Rd and take a right at the light and go down there to where it becomes Taylor road and then you will see signs for the county land on your left.

"Sounds like the brown down crew to me or the guys that have to say "yea I shoot over a hundred deer in my life". OR maybe they hunt where there are more deer and maybe they are good at hunting..who knows. My pops has killed over a hundred deer just with a gun, and he certainly aint a brown its down guy, he was how ever one hell of a hunter in his prime. And if a guy has the tags to shoot a pile of deer and they don't go waste waste, thats HIS choice. I think maybe you should watch your step getting off your high horse, not every where is a barren deer wasteland like the Adirondacks.

Thats why I took to the Block with a big chef's knife when I was done, got all my spare parts back..haha I do need to find a better glue for the carbon arrows so it doesn't happen any more.
