Sweet ride stone, wanna race? JK I follow a different approach, when a truck or car needs some kind of maintenance I trade it in and get a new one. I got rid of one once when I needed an oil change. I always start off saying I'm going to keep it then I need tires or something and poof, it's gone. I do hope to keep my current truck for a while, I'm quite fond of it and the sweet stickers I put on it make it way cooler.

He has plenty more too but he puts his name in them and I can't crop them out. I'm not sure if he has warrants so I won't post them.

I snapped a few pics with my flip phone, not bad for a ten year old Motorola! Ok ok. These are my Dads. He does this kind of stuff for fun, every single day.

Go look for the pipe heading out of your basement and measure off the corner of your house, then outside at the predetermined area measure off your house @20 feet and begin poking the ground with something like a shovel or other pointy metal item. You should be able to feel the top of the tank and find the clean out. Then get to digging to find the handle of the clean out hatch. Usually the handle is metal.

Good caliber for bear

Orrrrrrr Buy a new 12, I'm thinking gas operated semi auto, maybe that Maxus you have been wanting for years. Or maybe a 1187/1100 that you can get a short barrel with screw in chokes for so you can have a Deer/Bear/Turkey set up. -
20 was aimed at that good square and 30 was dead center of all of them. I wanted to make sure I got the spread at 30. I'm happy with that pattern, much better than the loads I patterned last year.

Nothing fancy, just a Turkey choke out of a Stoeger Condor. Basically a Mossberg choke. I lied, it's a Carlsons choke.

I see the nys budget passed, so now we have AR's?
Doewhacker replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
The last I heard the ARs were left out of the budget. I would get the info before reacting. -
Local place called Franks Guns, good shop. I called looking for the Federals and he said no but....so I made the drive. I'll be sure to hang a pic or two tomorrow.
-
Lookie what I found, no dice on the Federals yet. $23.75 for 10 shells.

I like this idea, its also a throw back to the days when you were just in your twentys circa 1940. But seriously, those were popular guns/calibers in Maine in the old days. Now I want one...dangit -
No problem!

Any thing from a 12g to 7-08 works fine. 12 Would be my choice, big lead=big hole Its funny, I was planning a hunt for Bears for this year but decided to wait until my daughter can hunt in Maine in two years. -
SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
Doewhacker replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree, honestly that is the kind of way of doing stuff that would make me stop hunting in NYS. -

I'd like to see someone throw a deer back after they shoot it. -

Thanks for the update, is it strange to try to get something like this done this way? It struck me as such. -
You will be impressed, I have patterned both 5's and 6's. 6's offer incredible pattern density.

So no survey has been done to support your claims of all in support in your group? Just asking. Whether my reply supported my claims or not is your opinion. All hunters are not blissfully satisfied with everything. As a group that hunts a property they are more satisfied than not. If they weren't they'd get out. why wouldn't they? we also have a rep from each property attend meetings or collect tags or simply we go out of our way to talk to the group and get their thoughts. i don't have a piece of paper though that says "are you happy? circle Y or N" and then another that has any sort of tally. Shorter answer, no survey done. If I were you I would think about stepping up to the plate and conducting a small survey and send it along with any pertinent info on the subject, that is if you want to push for AR's. What percentage of your current buck take are 1.5's? 2.5's and so on, how does it compare to other regions in and out of the current Ar zones. i can't give you the 2.5 % right now. the yearling buck take % is very very low. basically only first time, youth hunters, or a wounded deer being put out of it's misery. our ARs are designed that way though. not sure what you mean by region but the yearling buck take in the surrounding area is high even with more 2.5+ yr olds being a biproduct of the co-op efforts. DEC is closer to finalizing 2016 harvest when they do i'm going to ask for it to supplement hunter observations and the other stuff. before the co-op started i'd bet money yearling take was over 60% for that area. education, co-op's sheer size, and other similar efforts have improved that obviously. I am interested in the results and percentages you are seeing. Hard data, not observations make a difference. I don't suppose you have a starting point before you started collecting data in the co-op? only DEC data and general observations. some have observation logs and other stuff that's been shared. that's the point though there wasn't really any good quantitative data before the co-op was started and collected it the first year. since we've collected data though we've actually seen average # of points go up for each age class. we've seen opportunity and harvest increase for restriction compliant bucks. doe harvest has remained the same despite DEC says we shouldn't be seeing that many deer and will probably think about pumping the brakes. we'll see. this was an area where it was taboo to shoot a doe. this past season we sent one in for CA aging that came back at 13.5 and we still have well over 30% of harvested doe coming in at 4.5+. weights for both doe and bucks haven't changed enough to write about for each age class, they should slowly start to go up. at this point we pretty much focus on herd management and not habitat yet. average weights harvested in general did go up because there's slightly older age class deer being taken. It sounds like you are dealing with more than simple AR's in your group. I have hunted in AR area's, its not that big of a deal honestly. I just don't agree with it and find it to be useless in most of the state. If you look at where it began, it is areas with the highest hunter densities and poorest habitat. Kind of makes sense there, not at all in the rest of the state. -
I plan on doing some shooting this weekend just because, its that time of the year.
