  1. One other note, I doubt it will survive long because it probably can't fly up to roost or avoid predators.
  2. It doesn't look like a heritage breed so it can't be bred naturally. It may be a Heritage but I I'm not sure what it would be. It could be a barnyard special, if that's the case all bets are off lol.
  3. Yup. Exactly, plus the Turkeys help keep order. We have a Jake and a Hen in with our flock and they will stay together until the Hen starts to lay.
  4. I don't run with hounds but....basically yes. GPS collars, and intercept the hound. Some dogs will run the yote down on scent and dispatch it.
  5. A few years ago I would have said a trip west for whitetails but now I'd have to say a fly in trip for Ptarmigan would be tops. The more attainable stuff I do when I can like waterfowl in New Brunswick, Grouse in Maine ect. Once I went I got hooked on the adventure and now we plan vacations around it. We booked a cabin in Maine for this summer, while there I plan on scouting areas for our return trip in the fall for bird hunting. We will spend the first half of the week hunting waterfowl outside of Fredricton, New Brunswick with friends. Hopefully I can make the pilgrimage to the western states for birds soon too. As some of the guys have said, don't wait, make it happen!
  6. Lots of folks drag em out whole when they can in Maine. You'd see the hunters towing snowmobile trailers and what not.
  7. I have never heard or seen anyone do it in my part of the state, the terrain is not suited for it. You need to be able to see what is going on and that aint happening around me in many spots. I do think my dogs are to sharp on fur to be decoy's. I have always been curious to see what would happen if I ran into one with my dogs. I am pretty sure if I yell fetch the yote is in trouble if it gets caught.
  8. I'm not so sure it is a dramatic difference from the SX3 but it does appear lighter according to them. It has the kinetic action, personally I would rather shoot a gas operated recoil gun but its not something I would let discourage anyone from owning one. I am wrong, it IS gas operated.
  9. A thread here a while back titled "Embarassing photos" ...somethings you can't forget, like the Pink Lady Lover part time gigalo Wooly.
  10. TF I will give you 1000 points if you Turkey hunt in that this coming May.
  11. Did you line it with fire brick? The reason my outdoor pit went bad quick was from high heat and no fire brick. I figured I might be better off with a dedicated sap stove and a separate fire pit for the rest of the year. I can pick up a barrel for cheap or free if I am lucky, replacing a decent looking fire place ain't so cheap.
  12. Any one run a set like this? I am going to build one.
  13. Sounds about like how I started last year, I was running @60-1 early. I won't bother tapping until late Feb most likely.
  14. No clue on what a bear likes on his pancakes but I do know that plastic line and a bucket are cheap enough to replace that I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you turn it into a business of course.
  15. I prefer a balance of both show and hunting tested lines. The breed standards are very important and how would you keep those standards true if you don't show the dogs? Ex, the new thing with GSP and WPG in the US is the idea that bigger is better. Maybe in some cases it would be better but a dog over standard will not be able to maneuver well on the hunt in and out of a hedge row ect. You could carry the same thinking to hunt testing. If folks knew how simple some of the tests that get advertised are they would know that it's not a huge deal if a dog tests well in some cases. Basically take all of it with a grain of salt and do your best to dig a little deeper.
  16. The obvious answer is a Wirehaired pointing Griffon. Brit's are ok but can be a pain to train for a novice. Springers I don't know about. Lab? Forget it. ; ) take a look at some breeds from this list https://www.navhda.org/registry/versatile-hunting-dog-breeds I would take a gander at Small Munsterlanders. A versatile breed will do it all and then some.
  17. I plan on expanding my small set up to a few more tree's this year and building a new out door fire pit to accommodate my pan. Maybe even add a second pan to speed the cook down. My goal is to make things more efficient for myself this year. Last year was ok for me, we had a late run that helped me hit my goal of 3 gallons. I would love to exceed that this year, I would have no problem selling Syrup in front of the house. We sell eggs now so we already have folks stopping by. Soon I'll need a little store out there lol. I love sap season!
  18. Mine goes into the yard, just like the gutters. They are piped way out away from the house.
  19. I have a drain in the one corner of my basement, I love having it. It is handy for dumping out the dehumidifier in the summer and handy to drain a hot water tank if need be, I also dump the dog bowls down it which are located right next to it. Our basement is unfinished.
  20. What lake? Im kind of surprised but not really. Moreau was close to being opened last week. Im ready to go after last years terrible ice.
  21. Without a doubt it was having two close encounters with my new to hunting 12yr old son. It is refreshing to see the experience through his eyes and watch what the excitement does to him. During the second one we had a doe come into 20 yards in the woods right where I told him they would come and bust us. He was shaking like a leaf, and on the walk home I welcomed him to bow hunting. That was what it was all about for me, making a plan, watching it work, and learning from mistakes along the way.
  22. Maybe but I would say 90-105 on the buck. The doe for sure is big, my guess would be 140+. It's tough to judge doe because they can be deceiving the way they are shaped. And on the properties that I hunt a big doe goes 125 and up. My biggest was 135 taken in Greene County, I have taken many in the 110-125 range.
  23. This is absolutely devastating, so sorry for your loss but find solace in the fact that he went quickly with you at his side and in the woods where we all belong. PS If you need any thing out of the ordinary that a stranger could help with let me or any of your fellow 518ers know.
  24. 1. perfect 2. That does the same thing as hanging it only with out the waste and nasty mold. shhh dont tell the HNY experts lol
