  1. i'm lazy i just use the powder which is talc. otherwise i've heard others that use these. http://www.lancasterarchery.com/ozonics-windtracker-wind-direction-detection-fibers.html i've used milkweed before but i'm not going hunting for it.
  2. jealous of the man cave. they definitely should. turbulent air along the shaft doesn't do anything but create drag. most of the old vane surface is there. blazers have that different profile to make more of the vane do more work. i put them on with a full/maximum helical and think they'll stabilize just about anything with just 3 vanes. 4 blade Muzzy included.

i use them on with my trad bow. i suppose they'd work with my compound too just never thought about using them with it.
  4. welcome! yup have to get a new license and then fall has birds flocked up. find one find a bunch. if there's a corn field or some other food source near public land that end of the public land might be better. hophorn beam trees and others draw turkeys in. http://www.nwtf.org/conservation/article/lesser-known-fall-turkey-foods i'm a good a few hours from you. not the closest.
  5. anyone i've known to go hunt africa has said the hunting is awesome and the food is even better. congrats dinsdale! ... sounds like there's more to come.
  6. right now i'm on my computer and can only see three. buffalo, tuskless, and hyena.
  7. definitely need to look at the jawbone as a whole and not focus on only one thing. from here on out most won't be so clean and pretty but won't be as bleached either. these were the ones one an educational display board we have. being able to look at them in person does help. i'll try to take photos of some ages next to each other.
  8. i don't really believe in different phases of the general mass rut so much, as a buck is with a doe for 72 hours. first 24 is the chasing phase. second 24 is the breeding phase. last 24 hrs he's hanging around to do his failed best at keeping any other bucks away.
  9. peak bangin' always happens last week in november around here i'm told by research and my own eyeballs. southern zone season already has them pressured and they're usually holed up in thick stuff screwin around. better chance any dominant buck for the area is going to be on one of those first hot doe versus the free for all when they all come in. 1st to 2nd week in November is when first doe start to come into estrous in numbers and that's the best odds when you'll have the first crack at the king of your hunting honeyhole. it's like when college seniors roll into the bar at 11pm to seal the deal, after freshman have been running around for hours looking stupid all night (someone here used that analogy at one time and it stuck with me). the other time is the first week in December on a high energy food source that's way back in that hasn't seen much of any pressure. aside from that any time between is a crap shoot but anything and everything can go down at any time of day. any time you can hunt is good, assuming the good ones your after are still alive.
  10. Small game with a recurve and judo points. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  11. that's a silly idea. biz has a mathews. guarantee's probably printed right in the owner's manual.
  12. out your way?? ...pppssshhhh.... all-time or bust. deer here top out in the low 140's so it should be one hell of a challenge. like watching leaves grow. out this way we're not worthy of B&C.
  13. Sounds like a nice day of work to me! Happy bday! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. If I got drunk I'd wonder and fall across the Vermont border. Too far for me. Work doesn't really take me out that way too much. Although I do need to ale it out to see a friend in grand island. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  15. In theory we can go from 6.5 up to 8.5 by adding a year for each tooth that's cupped with no crest, starting with the 4th tooth back (1st molar, oldest tooth in deer). however, after 4.5+ most management decisions are kind of a moot point and we just call the deer old. If it's a buck and we care more about exact age for maybe peak potential or for curiosity of doe age we would then send teeth out for cementum analysis. At this point results start to vary though depending on region, genes, diet, and other things. Here's one that's 6.5 yrs old. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. By comparison look at this deer and I'll tell you from the start it's 3.5 yrs old. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. So this is where people don't believe in aging deer. Keep in mind a fresh jawbone will have very distinct start and end to the dentine to easier tell. Dentine will be darker and not bleached. Anyway this deer was 4.5 years old. The 4th tooth back is clearly wider dentine than enamel. The next 5th tooth back is questionable. The last tooth is definitely not. Notice that progression and know it's sometimes easier to look at teeth before and after the suspect tooth. Also if you look at the last cusp of the back tooth it's starting to slope toward the cheek and worn more flat beyond a concave shape. There's dentine showing throughout the whole last cusp. 18. How about this deer. How old? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. It's the start of hunting season I get it but no guesses? Lol no worries there will be more. This deer was 5.5 yrs old. Dentine width compared to enamel is wider on all teeth (4th to 6th tooth) on the lingual tongue side in back. That means you add a year for each of three teeth starting at 2.5 yrs old. 20. Today for evening sit 10 doe and 1 buck. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. Heres a 4th deer. Start with counting a full set of teeth. Then look for replacement of pre-molars. Finally start with wear (dentine width) on 4th tooth back, moving back to each proceeding tooth in the jaw. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Notice it has all 6 teeth. Last premolar (3rd tooth back) has 2 cusps. There's very slight dentine showing on each cusp of the last molar. So it's at least 2.5 yrs old. Aside from chips though there's little wear on lingual crests. Dentine width on first molar (4th tooth) back is not as wide as the enamel all the way across. So this deer is 2.5 yrs old. 23. i don't mean any disrespect. i said what i think. if you think that's BS then so be it.
  24. hope you used a bow stringer. don't want to mess up the limbs.
