Insufficient scope adjustment..Suggestions ?
dbHunterNY replied to Pygmy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
when it comes to guns and meaning I wouldn't have to buy a new scope.... yup gotta love it. -
350 fps IBO with 6" brace height and 32" axle-to-axle isn't overly impressive by todays standards. however, I hear the draw comparative to those specs will rock your world. don't have any dealers around here and won't order a bow without shooting it. should be a great bow from what I hear.

always good seeing deer. I don't even bother looking out for antler until mid summer though.

Insufficient scope adjustment..Suggestions ?

at first I thought it was over kill but I've since thought very highly of owning my own scope ring lapping kit. it's served me well since owning it. -
Insufficient scope adjustment..Suggestions ?

Good to hear it worked out. -
there's definitely a disconnect using harvest numbers to estimate population.

always good to help out neighbors. you pretty much have to deal with them every day so one might as well have a good relationship with them. one of my favorite pass times on the farm is "picking rocks" in fields we're going to plant! ....for those of you that know what I'm talking about I'm completely kidding.

I would love to hunt elk and that's most definitely my game meat of choice. last time I had elk it was heavenly. however, call me old fashioned but I like to think habitat and animals should remain in their natural state. forget CWD and prions and any connection with game farms. elk haven't been here and they shouldn't be here. start dropping non native species of anything into a place they aren't and have never been could mean something bad for something, whether it be habitat or animals living in it. it's usually not realized until it's too late to correct it. I'm fine with not pushing and shoving mother nature too much. we screw stuff up enough as it is.

it sounds like you've most definitely already looked into it. i'll have to test that out as I don't have the original old ones and i know the new ones aren't exactly the same but darn close to it with the way they function with the camming of the blades held by a screw and angle. I wonder now if all the newer 3 blades apply, only some, or what. I'll have to mess with them next time I'm at the archery shop. a lot of hunters use the same setup for deer, coyote, and turkeys for one reason or another, especially in the fall, so I'm sure it'd be good to know. from what it sounds like your experience is only with the old ones or no?
-
yea I'm not sure where that originated from other than word of mouth and what I said previously about debris, bent blades, etc is only more apparent with the 3 blade heads. any ECO I've asked has said they seem ok. I know others have asked and got a different answer. In one of those circumstances the ECO didn't have first hand experience with them and gave the safe answer of No they aren't ok. they swing forward the same as the 2 blade though from playing with them in my hand. the blades can make contact with each other in the ferrule but they still go forward. idk.... I guess ask the ECOs where you hunt and whatever they say goes, as they'd be the one that could write you a citation.

if it was a mess but a good mess than maybe you're better off. any "junk" tree shouldn't be laying there knocked over though. maybe tops but not the whole thing. that'd sound more like a hack job.

I do my own processing. I bone out everything usually that day. put in all in meat tubs and put it in the fridge for a few days. during that time the meat will drain and I put a meat pad in the bottom or drain off the blood so it doesn't degrade the meat in the bottom of the tub/container. when it's hanging, I also hang them hind quarters up so some of it drains away from the better cuts of meat before I get to it. you probably are adding a little water though to mix up meat and stuff the casings easier which would be common.

I shot deer last year with one of my bows: PSE Bowmadness (330 fps IBO), 29" draw, 60lbs, Rage 2 blade titanium with a 2" cut @100gr, Hexx 400 arrow at 27.5" long and 7.2 gpi with blazer vanes. deer were anywhere from 10 to 31 yards away and I got an entry and exit hole for each of them. one doe at 23 yards even spun toward me at the shot, that was probably already slightly too far back and slightly quartering toward me. arrow went in 3" behind the front shoulder and came out through the opposite hind quarter. normally I've found they spin away so I thought that was weird.

Rage doesn't make a 4 blade broadhead. all the broadheads have a similar blade deployment system by design and all will swing forward so they're not "barbed". if they lock up it's due to debris inside them, burs, or bent blades created by use and not maintaining/cleaning them as you would any other broad head fixed or mechanical. I've played with every one they make just about, but if you still don't believe me you might want to check into that further.

You best wake up NOW!

regardless of what you think is going to happen. 1) you don't say she's probably going to win or we're screwed to begin with. 2) you get others you know in your circles to vote because ask and you'll find out only a 1/3 to half of you probably did. the half thought it wouldn't make a difference. 3) don't dwell on stuff like Bengazi or inner gun or right wing circle topics of discussion. nobody else outside those circles cares. I'm dumb founded how those with similar interests and goals with elections don't do the above and/or shoot themselves in the foot in a conversation because of it. This includes those that run some campaigns. it's a scary thought of her becoming President. Most people don't think of the boat load of long term damage it could cause like her being elected means she'll most likely be appointing not one but four supreme court justices. want a 2nd amendment ruling? I'm sure whomever she appoints will give you one without looking at a case! -
both serve different purposes so I use both but I've had way more luck with an owl call.

I'd never give up hunting for golf. when the woodchucks are hiding this summer in the tall hay fields, I've got that covered. new set with not a single swing on them sitting down stairs. I'm good. those practice balls that don't go far are great for shotgun practice. kill two birds with one stone.
-
balance both.... make her understand it's something important to you but so is she. if you hunt 4 days out of the season then go out on a date or stay in and cook her dinner 4 days. that sort of thing. also point out that one morning out for a couple hours isn't the same as a whole day. that's like saying taking her to McDonalds is the same as a walk through the park and nice place with formal dining and melt in your mouth food.
-
always wondered how you had the time to kill those nice bucks of yours. now I know. lol
-
....as it has more momentum (mass X velocity) and so down range is carries more of it's speed. kinetic energy is 0.5 X mass X velocity X velocity.
-
it depends on the arrows spine everything else when equating GPI. if your shaft is sized correctly say with a .300 - .350 spine then 10+ grains per inch is heavy. closer to 8 gpi is light and 9+ gpi is about average.
-
great buck ...booner or not. no big deal and still a great accomplishment to take a buck you're after with some history. looks good!
-
yes.... you need to consider all other things equal though. if the head, shot location, bow, or anything else is different then you have to factor that in too. weight doesn't trump everything else. the only exception I can think of is if you had lower draw weight/slower bow/ lesser KE to work with and hit a solid leg bone or spine. then a light arrow versus a heavy arrow would be pretty much the same as it's prematurely stopped by a very solid object. shooting through ribs or most of the shoulder blade and the answer is still yes.

game ownwrship..it's starting to change..good or bad.

if the restitution went to his mother the land owner (not him), then state wildlife enforcement wouldn't be funded enough to have as much of a presence that would lead to poachers being caught in the first place, which is how he'd get restitution. state should have restitution and antlers to allow them to keep doing what they're doing. meat should go to food closet program. antlers displayed on wall at public events with poacher mug shot by it. any property damage caused by the poacher is fair game with restitution payed to land owner. if the value of antlers is high as in this case, it's muddy in areas managed for whitetails. some put in lots of time and money to grow big bucks and maybe feel they should get some of it back, but it's still a free ranging wild animal. it sucks and I feel for them but it's a slippery slope where nobody will be happy. bucks often travel large property to large property. say a record book buck or any deer was exclusively living on your land where you put big $$$ into food plots, habitat, etc. and it was then pushed by the poacher and poached just over the property line (off your property). now what? lol the monkeyed up rules say you have no ownership at all. see? muddy as heck and that's why things are good similar to what they are now.
