I've heard toms gobble right after others gobbling that are say the next valley over, on the other side of a valley, or a few ridges over. so I think the fact that they get each other fired up must add to it. if for whatever reasons a few birds are reluctant to gobble I think it would snowball the effect a little.

limited vacation and busy at work means I don't take time off now. despite 2 weeks sooner would yield lots of action that doesn't help me get into the woods any easier. I'm sure others with vacation and dedication spread thin are in the same predicament. weekends are shot with stuff going on to dedicate each week morning to go chase turkeys. I'm for A. Nothing wrong with ground blinds or decoys. I'm not going to dictate how someone hunts. I'd be completely fine with one bird, give the fact more opportunity might arise... it's not like you're getting a ton more food with two. want to continue hunting? take a kid or someone else out and call for them. feeling of accomplishment is still there for most. Phade's ultimatum isn't bad. I'd be good with that.

if it has a tick on it's left butt cheek then it won't gobble. .....in all honesty rain, hot temperatures, super windy I've SEEN them not gobble, if it's working through the woods I've had one pounding down bugs in one spot and it wouldn't gobble, if hens happen to be headed your way with him in tow I've had him not gobble, birds that have been called to a lot will gobble let you know where they are and then shut up. that's about all I got.

Look's like our back tags may be a thing of the past?
dbHunterNY replied to maytom's topic in General Chit Chat
they aren't even in a good order. you end up having to tear them apart anyway. -
tagged out then?? congrats!

sport utilities pretty much. 400cc or larger is sufficient power wise. storage and weight loading is important. basically use one more for longer, slower, relaxed rides with friends to some location with a view. also use it to access a hunting spots based on terrain and distance to within reasonable hiking distance. access to do some woods maintenance, fixing fences, etc. so 4x4 is a must. i've enjoyed ones good for nothing but tearing it up with raw power, speed, and handling. racing and more common sport atv's use is limited though to just that though. seems I do less of that and if I was to do that I'd be much better suited on a bike. I had a 2-stroke 250cc bored out to a larger displacement actual racing quad for a short period of time. it was probably the most fun atv i've ridden but was costly to fix, not as useful, and didn't run perfect all the time. I could most likely beat your wife's mini-van is a drag race while holding the front up in a wheelie though. man that was a fun atv. lol

my zeroturn mower i've been told is a luxury and me taking out a 4 year loan to pay for it is ridiculous. when I explain it saves me 1.5 hours a week mowing, it's 0% interest, and reduces my stress making mowing more enjoyable I still get "well I would never spend that much on a lawnmower". I just shake my head and say that's why I didn't ask them for the loan. lol we all have our reasons and they sound pretty good to us. ...always wanted a bike too. I got "not til you're 25 and out of this house" from my parents and now I've got a wife that thinks they're too dangerous.

I agree that's wrong... a problem wearing the other shoe is some will do the right thing and ask for permission first to pass through in one spot, not racing and causing hell, and their treated like a**holes. not saying that's the case with anyone's situation here. I know for a fact though that when that happens word spreads and some bad apples will make it a point to tear through there. just making sure some on here that feel very passionately against these things are aware and can learn from my personal experiences.

Look's like our back tags may be a thing of the past?
dbHunterNY replied to maytom's topic in General Chit Chat
yea not many states have actual back tags. Mississippi I'm sure is one of them that don't have carcass tags either, but Belo can chime in.... I know I don't. I change layers, turkey vests, jackets, and stuff so often depending on what I'm hunting I don't display it on my back. I do carry all my tags with me though. I've never had an ECO give me a hard time about it. some of my stuff doesn't have grommets for a tag holder either and just sticking the clothing over and over will just ruin it. -
it's apparent you've had some bad experiences.

nice ATV is like $7k now. KTM woods dirtbike new is the same. snowmobiles are ridiculous, being closer to $10K or just under. UTVs are start at $10K for the most part. toys can be expensive these days.

I've owned them all and used them all at some point to get into where I'm going. state land I've never used any of them except a bicycle. During deer season there's times where you should patrol your property a little if you've got enough. we just drive them up onto the "hill" then walk a ways in. parked along logging or access roads or even at times next to a box blind and the deer don't care. we keep in mind where people are and try not to screw up their hunting and stay out of the woods with them during the season. once season nears and rolls around it's common knowledge hunters are in the woods and not to drive through. during the summer we allow local recreational riders passing through to access other trails. every now and then someone abuses things but people they're with or we keep them in line. for example if they drive through a field and not stay on the trails/roads or leave trash/cans when they stop for a break along the way. most of the time it's the others that keep the few in line as they don't want their buddy screwing up access for everyone. haven't seen it effect deer that much to matter like I said it's not during the season. on of the neighbors doesn't like the fact we don't put up gates during the summer but they'd just be riding down the road right in front of their house anyway. always where your freedom starts, someone elses ends.

Installed new trigger spring on my Savage Axis
dbHunterNY replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
my varmint rifle is a savage with the accu-trigger... it breaks at around 2lbs. my browning abolt is my primary deer rifle and it breaks at around 3lbs. it's a nice weight for a hunting trigger. 6 lbs seems like a heavy trigger but I don't have much experience with the axis rifles. -
sounds like you were definitely on the turkeys. congrats!

Anyone Going After Woodchucks Soon?
dbHunterNY replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
didn't get out this morning to turkey hunt but did get out mid day for a couple hours. didn't see many woodchucks but did see three of them so I got three. I've had better outings but a few chucks down isn't bad. all three shots were just under 200 yards and out to around 250-260 yards i'm still holding right on them. -
congrats! sounds like you made it happen opposed to sit back and sit on your tags. you're tagged out and I haven't even hunted yet! haha

nice! always good to have a honey hole.

Situation in Baltimore
dbHunterNY replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
That's right. Only exception is when a facility shuts down and moves. you might have to hunt for them but others are out there. My dad is always dumb founded when offering kids/young adults good money to help with hay/farming and they don't want to do it. Much better for them to find a lesser paying job where they can sit on there butt. -
haven't had time to scout. had a couple jakes and a longbeard with half dozen hens behind the house on gun club but they've dispersed and have only seen a hen or two. don't know the situation where I usually hunt (parent's farm) and won't until Saturday morning.

Situation in Baltimore
dbHunterNY replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
i think you were just venting and not assuming anything or taking any sides at this point. there's definitely a lot of stereotyping and associated comments when stuff like this happens. I'm with you in that lots of problems compound each other to make this go down. in the end education, rehab, growing middle class will help and can a lot. there will always be broken individuals though that regardless of opportunity make poor decisions. aka in this case a bunch of thugs ruining it for the vast majority of the city and protestors that are in the wrong place at the wrong time. at home parenting will help to but some still stray. that kid getting slapped around by his mom just didn't stray very far. she gets an A+ in my book. it all comes down to decisions we make. sometimes others need to help us a little to make them. outcome is always the same though as we're responsible for our actions and should be held accountable, whether you're black, white, purple, cop, or a thug. making no assumptions or what if scenarios, it doesn't take an armed individual to warrant a person shooting. a cop should avoid drawing a weapon and firing as much as possible but at some point they can't wait for it to be a wrestling match on the pavement over their own gun. that i would not classify as a bad call. they've got families and friends to go home to and a life to live too. i know of and met some individuals that were so in deep with "thug" life that they can't go back to where they came from, even to see family, because they'll get sought out and killed. they made good choices though and got out anyway without a pot to pee in. some with a whole lot of college debt they'll probably be paying forever and others just making do with what they've got without one. doesn't matter if you're gifted or not... anyone will get credit in some form or another when they make good decisions. -

everybody see the video of the civil rights activist put in mock situations a cop would see. he basically failed (unsafe gun handling, drawed weapon opposed to being at the ready, got killed, and killed someone) and said it's opened his eyes to the serious situations they're faced with and the difficulty of making life altering decisions within seconds.
