strange tactics but if you need to tote along 69 yr old beaver to get pussy then so be it. i thought most men just head out holding little more than their hand cannon to tag a pussy. another case in point idk if i want to tag a pussy that's stalking around at night just looking for a mouth full of 69 yr old beaver. some of you sure are a wild bunch.

agreed. i've eaten beaver before and it was great. i'd call ECO or DEC. they can have someone come out and remove it or give you the legal means allowing you to do so. our ECO around here has relocated them before. takes help from animal control and a few chewed nests but yea.

2019 Field to fork Program
dbHunterNY replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Greater Rochester Southern Tier QDMA
yea that's what we're doing. we've got 7 mentors right now and 8 soon to be new hunters. survey got sent out. despite it's more or less first come first serve priority, previously scheduled farmers markets are still happening. we'll just make a waiting list. i'm hoping for the best. we're likely blind folding them and bringing them to managed QDM Co-op properties to up the ante a bit. lol at least i will be. i just hope one of them doesn't dump a slammer the first time out and have unrealistic expectations. -
hunters will almost never kill a doe just to fill a tag if they think doe shouldn't be shot. each change has a specific goal in mind. one buck only would have a significant impact, how much would be the question. to a degree it may make you voluntarily pass a buck you'd otherwise shoot as long as you had a chance at another. any passed opportunity comes with a possibility that you might not get another. more so i know of a lot of hunters who take the first simply okay buck for the freezer and then "hunt for a big one" despite never seeing one that trips their trigger for the rest of the season. one buck limit makes many only shoot a buck that's up near their top threshold in age and size that meets a balance of what they want vs what they think is possibly around to present an opportunity. if a buck dies at the end of the season it's not getting any older. still it was around to create competition for doe. i don't think it'll have as much of an impact on age structure as other methods but it will have an impact.

again forgot the pictures. last of the backstraps i think i had. paired it with baked potato salad. might chunk up and marinate a roast what looks like it was a top round for tomorrow.
-
i don't get it if you don't normally shoot two bucks then you're not out on actual opportunity. if you shoot a buck early we'd all assume you're more than happy with taking it. you'll have tags allowing you to still be hunting. if you want to buck hunt do what others do for turkey. take a less experienced out and get them on a buck. it's not much different than you hunting finding one for yourself.

i processed a button buck once that got hit by a car right in front of the house. perfect blow to the head and neck only. that seemed like just as much work as a mature doe yet yielded about half the venison i'd normally get even with trimming all that fat off. forget a middle aged buck or even a 2.5 yr old all together from that comparison or it'd be laughable. for that reason alone i'd never knowingly shoot a button buck. likely cautious enough not to shoot one period. forget antler size. as a meat hunter it defies logic to me why you wouldn't recruit another hunter to your ranks, share time together in the woods, and have every goal to shoot adult deer to optimize the living breathing meat you've got roaming the country side you hunt for anything or anyone else with a mouth and taste for venison. not saying what you're doing is wrong. it's just even with the liberties of where you are i don't really get it.

there always shit you need. you just don't always need it right now. lol

it's crazy to think how much less your weight will hold you back. you'll likely do things without much thought that you'd never do before. society is so focused on other goals like success, $, and convenience/time saving shortcuts that we often sacrifice our health in doing so. even while young you have to be careful of weight gain. first years of college i gained close to 50 lbs, lost it. now at 36 yrs old with work and a busy life i've gained it back. time get things in check again i'd imagine. i've known people who lost, tried to lose, or still are trying to lose the weight you are. to them it seems like it's an insurmountable endeavor to get to the end. they all aren't getting it done either. even losing the measly amount of weight i did required me to break it up into smaller goals. you can't put a price on the quality of life you have given yourself. i hope a few close family or extended family members have your same weight loss success. congrats on the accomplishments.

2019 Field to fork Program

update for Upper Hudson River Valley branch's Field to Fork program: we've got 8 new hunters that applied with two more farmers market appearances to go. myself and others made ourselves available as mentors but we might end up being short mentors to take them. classes and events will be in Ballston spa area. -
can't speak for Rob that made the request, but i'm in. apple on larrys ankle is a small target at 80 yards but we'll send it anyway.
-
dave do a euro mount. then with the bleached antlers rub them down with Minwax wood stain color like pine or golden oak. let dry. then hit it with Minwax "provincial" color wood stain into the texture and deeper parts of the antler arond the bases and burs. wipe off excess and surface of that area of antlers so it's dark in the nooks and crannies but surface is exposed lighter color. bleach the skull with 40 volume peroxide paste before that though and wrap it in saran wrap so you don't get stain on it. it's about $80 for a straight up "boiled" euro. you didn't take the buck but you found it.

that was our biggest hurdle with our QDMA branch how do we plug the hell out of them when they have no processor around here in the capital region. had one that's on my QDM co-op and a branch sponsor but he got so busy with pigs, cows, goats, and sheep. he had to quit doing deer.
-
not like they're eating garbage. enough activity there 24 hours that they stay away from where it's exposed. the thought crossed my mind though. one time i sat behind that dump. the wind shifted and blew off the dump to me. stunk bad and ended up giving me a headache. yes a headache from hunting. lol hunting isn't bad though. if you're not proficient with a bow you're wasting your time there.
-
awesome. congratulations. Been going to Maine since i was a kid but only to the coastal area around Wells and York. Never been that far north. Definitely nailed the location. What a view.
-
it's easy bury it in a chest freezer with over 100 lbs of other cuts. lol i think these two were the last left. roasts and ground remain despite we go through a lot. then add stuff from garden. mixed in with that. chest freezer works but is chaos. i pack stuff in cardboard boxes or stack flattened vac sealed portions of ground to keep things separated.

up the hill a bit from Cuomo's office in Albany and then go a little further. lol public hunting across the parking lot, but it's albany so bow only. no crossbow either at any point in the season. they must look too much like a gun.
-
turkey target is everyone's worst target. lol besides this is all pure speculation on my part. i'm not enrolled there.
-
i'm guessing crossbow acceptance might be mediocre. Therefore to really stand out from the crowd, your only saving grace might be to choose only a sister company to Elite that produces crossbows. That'd be company would be CamX.
-
of course he is. that's why there will be 80 yard men's compound elimination rounds. big target like a block. final selections shoot at a nice big broadsided turkey target. everybody doesn't get all that for free. you've got to earn it.
-
co-worker brought an old grill into work that we're now keeping out back. brought in a 1/3 of a back strap. grilled it up whole to medium rare. it got picked off crazy quick just getting back to my desk. had just enough to feed me at lunch. lol meant to take pictures but it didn't happen. another section of strap thawing in fridge for tomorrow.
-
nothing compared ones fed with Marsh mellows, old breakfast cereal, grazed donuts, and whoopie pies. lol that's what i've heard anyway... that the diabetic ones are tasty.
-
ooohhh... makes sense. hear of them getting tree'd not during the season but during is usually somewhere else.
-
In that case Moog meant to put No and write in "but if necessary - CamX only". His revised application is probably already in the mail.

it would draw too many questions with DEC about baiting bears while not allowing baiting for deer. people do fairly well with dogs going after bears. i have yet to see one. i don't think they're that overpopulated yet to expect any drastic changes.
