dragging anything over a mile is ridiculous but seems as though i've done it more often than not with others. last buck i was with 4 other guys and i didn't worry about the cape. we tied a line on and tied loops all the way up it. still it was a b&^%$ on flat but dry ground. my deep woods hunting has taken a back seat to farm hunting with higher standards due to time i have to hunt but it's way easier to bone out your deer on the spot. just take meat, cape, and antlers. if you're going to quarter the deer anyway it's not much more effort and it packs easier in smaller sections.

Brought back multiple bottles of different brews from Maine Beer Co too if that helps. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

trip 10 years ago we got 116 lobsters when more of the family was there at camp. lol
-
my great grandmother had a camp up there many years ago and now my uncle does. family has a hook up when we go up there. couldn't imagine paying what you would in grocery store. our breakfast would've costed like $90 for 3 lobsters. the bigger 2+ lb ones are more per lb than the 1 to 1-1/4 lb'ers. we've gotten 3 or 4 large coolers filled on some occasions.

snow doesn't build up as bad unless the top hubs drops down from the weight. 2x4 works you don't need it up while you're in it. just knock snow off when you get there.

When in Maine I cant think of a reason not to have a few lobsters for breakfast. A couple 2+ lb soft shells for myself went down good. No butter required. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Traditional coach/instruction btw NYC and Del County

shooting coach means you're on the right track. don't know why more don't pay the money for one. -
Not sure how much changed but 10 or so years ago I had the place pretty well figured out. I've passed some very respectable deer there.

Mathews and now a stand? i thought you were into fair chase?

Lunch was lobster bisque and broiled scallops with natural cut fries. Dinner was a chicken sandwich with bacon avocado, cheddar, and LTO. (No picture) Both go to places here in Maine. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Some interesting data on Mechanicals VS Fixed
dbHunterNY replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Bow Hunting
Mechnaicals will work just fine with your setup. Also of note a hard quartering away shot sometimes means deflection and a wounded deer. Know it to be true with both mech and fixed. Bottom line though if you're shooting broadhead X accurately and you're confident in it... well just stick with that broadhead. No reason you need to be thinking or worrying about your setup when a deer shows up. Just thinking about steps needed to send that arrow on its way is more than enough to deal with. it's messed up that i know someone who hunts whitetails with a 375 H&H so i find your comment totally relevant and not out of context one bit. lol -
Some interesting data on Mechanicals VS Fixed

yes. still and will always be important. one thing the article doesn't touch on is bow setups outside your typical 50+ lb draw weight compound. if you use a lighter setup or shoot a recurve or longbow then i think it'd be prudent to your success if you stick with a cut on contact fixed blade head with more swept back blade angle. crossbows seemed to heavily favor mechanicals but here's my thoughts. i see more mechanical crossbow heads on the shelves here. crossbows have boat loads of energy with sufficient arrow weight to drive a mechanical hard into the deer. also crossbows are stupid fast and i don't care what your opinion is it's basic science that even perfectly tuned a mechanical head will fly better than a fixed blade. it's just more aerodynamic. -
not the same buck. similarities and then differences in character all the same. 2016 photo seems every bit 2.5 years old. despite not the best angle and still in velvet i'm going with 3.5 yrs old in the 2019 photo. not all bucks have to get giant at 5.5 years old. some bucks simply top out early and don't get that big. the buck in the 2019 photo is clearly bigger with more mass. still i don't think that's the case here.

i've hung weight with a string and walk back tuned with 15 yards of range in a basement. takes some arrows to do it. definitely times you have to take a break and go back to it if you're getting really particular.

WMU 4J is bow only here with little for huntable land. i've watched herds of deer camp out and someone's backyard. my inlaws have had an influx of deer continuing to show up in their neighborhood that's not legally huntable. the group of over a dozen just make their rounds mowing down everyone's shrubs. lol

I jumped on board. Bought me a bucket hat.

to think if you beat yourself to the punch and fall asleep while doing all that you're only being a better multitasker. ...some co-workers in the office reach that level but it's eluded me for years. -
i can pre-arrange public land too. often they don't allow you to go off trail systems (scouting) or place temporary stands until hunting season. i just claim i'm a lost hiker that can't read signs. they just nod their heads in total acceptance and we go about our separate ways like i suddenly got my bearings back.

multi-tasking. who doesn't?! -
doesn't matter whether it's trophies, freezer filling, or peace and quiet to yourself. all public land is different same as all private land is different. I've hunted public land miles in the middle of a swamp thousands of acres. shot a buck with my bow. followed the "blood trail" and it died 5 yards from a vacant tree stand that was clearly kept up and hunted from. I've hunted the private land hundreds of acres and been looking right at others hunters on or off the property within the range of my weapon. at my private stand on the family farm that is my sole spot that other do not have permission to hunt i've had the sun come up only to have a hunter on the neighbor's right next to me well within 100 yards during opening day of rifle season. i've even had tresspassers i've found in my stands. others were people that hunt the same property that hoped you wouldn't be there and just looking for a vacant stand to hunt. i've hunted a couple spots on public land that i've only seen another once in the years i've hunted it and that was only at the trail head. i have freezer filing spots, trophy spots, easy spots, and spots to get away from people just to have time to myself. there's no question that some private land can be clearly better, but some on here piss and moan that "if only they had private land. hunting would be (better)." it's there go to excuse. some of the best hunters i know keep both private and public options fresh and on table for good reason.
