  1. Do you still hunt Lordville? Good luck with the recovery. I'm sure you will be back up in no time.
  2. Good stuff right there. Cheers to you both. Use this toast the next time you meet up for a drink: Friends may come and friends may go, and some may Peter out You my friend, are my friend, Peter in or Peter out
  3. Congrats. That's a dandy. Nice rifle too and a great caliber.
  4. Maybe its Maybelline, I don't know, but that is a creepy pic
  5. Good Luck Greg - Moving is never fun but you seem to be looking at it as a new beginning so make the most of it. 18 years at my current residence and damn I have a lot of crap. Garage Sale baby!!!
  6. Congrats on the doe. She will eat good. Is that from the Newfield land? Can't believe you have that much snow still. I am only 40 minutes from there and we have zero snow now after the warm temps and rain.
  7. Nice job sticking with it. Congrats on your first Buck!!
  8. I use a homemade "boiler" and like Chas said do not boil, just simmer. I made mine out of a plastic wastepaper basket from a shredder that broke. I cut a hole in the back and put an electric hot water heater element in through the hole using a waterproof conduit thingy, crap I cant remember the name of it, and then sealed it with some gutter sealant. Fill with water, plug it in, walk away. I use Dawn dish soap in with mine. Has a funny smell of venison cooking and a floral bouquet that my wife has to comment on every time and I do this outside as I learned after doing the first one inside. Peroxide at the end once its clean and if you can add some heat to it with the peroxide on it, it helps a bunch to make it much brighter. Let me know if you have any questions. Im doing mine now and most likely a buddys and will take pics of the process and post in my journal.
  9. That is super cool. Too bad it wasn't on movie mode. Oh and if you have email on your phone, you can email the pic and then save them to your phone to post on here. Just a thought. You could also text them I believe
  10. I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!!

    Beer

I'd like to try that one. Ill have to look for it. Sounds delicious.
  12. I think @Adkhunter1590 knows where this is, right next to his haunted hunting perch he has been frequenting.
  13. Thank you for sharing the story and pictures. Congratulations.
  14. She'll come out when you shoot her and then drag her home, NOW get in there and get her!!!
  15. Thank you to all the diehards out there today posting and keeping me checking back while I should be working. I knew today was going to be slow on here which means I have to work harder and that sucks.
  16. 11.26.16 Third day in a row the wife hasn't "totally" nagged on me for hunting, of course until I got home. There were 10 of us this morning. I sat as a watcher on the first and fourth drive and was a driver on the second and third ones. I bumped 3 doe on the second drive and only heard them but never saw them. Fourth drive hadn't even started and a shot range out from the stand just below me about 100 yards. A 14yr old grandson of one of the members took a small doe. Only 8 doe seen today by all 10 of us. They had some good hiding spots today and we didn't push those to give them a little rest. Had lunch at one of the members houses afterwards. Beer, venison hotdogs, tenderloin, chips and some homemade Vodka. I was a good boy and sampled everything!!! Taking tomorrow off to work on some DIY Christmas gifts and working on my 7pt Euro mount. Also have the 9pt to flesh out as it may be going to the bettle bin Tuesday. If it can't go there, I will boil at home and finish it up. Ill post pics of all the progress here doing the Euros. Should be fun.
  17. Update to this story. The slug hole was not from a slug it was from a crossbow bolt and it happened the Saturday BEFORE gun season. We set up for a drive this morning and ran into a hunter in his stand on the property line. He was the shooter two weeks ago. No elaboration on how he hit him in the leg, 6 inches above the hoof, but I know I've had some less than ideal hits in the past as well, both my fault, and other circumstances such as deer movement or deflections due to objects not seen. The hunter was happy the deer was dispatched and recovered which I am sure haunted him. A lot of us know what it feels like to not find one we have wounded and how sick you feel. Very glad there was some closure for the hunter and the deer.
  18. Thanksgiving day Hunted at a friend's camp Thursday. We do drives so it was a 9am start time. Long story short, saw 10 deer today, 9 doe and 1 hurt large buck. I bumped the buck going in to sit on watch but had no tag. I could see he was hurt and should have mercy shot him to end his suffering but I didn't. I regretted it instantly. Made a plan for Friday morning to see if we could get back on the hurt buck. Friday 11.25.16 Was in a stand on my second bow property my buddy and I hunt. We have lots of cam activity and plenty of does which I am after. Was in a ladder stand by 6:30 and waiting for Sun up. About 7:45 I saw a doe about 80 yards out heading my way. At 70yds, she turned up hill and went away from me. A few minutes later two more followed her and then a fourth. No shot opportunity where they appeared and then disappeared. Sat for 2 hours and headed up to the camp from yesterday. Couple guys were already there sitting on stand so we worked out to them and pushed the area we saw the hurt buck yesterday. Within minutes he was bumped from his bed and the group was able to accomplish what we set out to do and end this deers suffering. Ill add a pic of him in a few. Went with the family and cut our Christmas tree today. Fun times waiting for the wife to make a decision. Thank goodness the local tree farmer asked me to do a shot of BlackBerry Brandy with him when I went to pay. I have a new favorite place to get my tree now. Processed a deer as well after dinner tonight. Took a few beers up and now I'm whooped. Back at it in the morning for a doe. More drives at 8am and then a hunters lunch at one of the camp members house. Love this time of year.

    Beer

Spent the evening processing a deer. Buddy got two bottles of this Nova Double IPA from Galaxy Brewing in Binghamton, NY. Fantastic beer to celebrate a successful hunt.
  20. Plan worked and his suffering has ended and he was legally tagged. Great group effort. 4 shots total 1st skimmed him low, and the 4th put him down. 2 and 3 were misses. Holy adrenaline!!!! His right rear hoof was like a crooked club foot which was very swollen and bleeding. The other wound he had was his left front leg, six inches above the hoof, he had a perfect slug hole. This deer was shot at on a neighboring property and came over to hide. He could barely walk let alone run away. Glad the coyotes didn't get him.
  21. Thanks for all the replies everyone. We have formulated a plan for tomorrow to get the guys who do have tags set up and will try to end his suffering. He obviously is hurt but was able to escape us but hopefully we can catch him tomorrow. If he does come past me, I know what to do. Had my buddy not filled his buck tag on the previous drive, it would have been a different outcome today morally speaking. Thanks again for the reassurance.
  22. So I had an interesting morning hunting at a buddies hunting camp. On the second deer drive we did, I was a sitter with a doe tag. I did not have a buck tag as I used it on Opening day. I was dropped off via 4 wheeler and headed in to the woods to my post. 10 feet in, a BIG bodied and BIG racked 6 or 8 point jumped up in front of me and was limping very badly. It took him at least 40 seconds or more to hobble out to 120 or 130 yards on a small knoll before stopping and looking back at me for almost 2 or 3 minutes. There were two others posted above me and the drivers would head right to the buck and then towards me. One of the sitters above saw him and that he was hurt but could not shoot downhill as a driver was directly below him. I thought one of them would definately shoot but they didn't and I could have. Three does came up between me and the buck so my eyes shifted to them and then back to the buck who was gone now. I felt bad for this deer as he should have been long gone if he were healthy and for me to be able to have 40seconds and up to two or three minutes at the 120 yard range to shoot then obviously he is hurting bad. I was torn on what to do. I know I do not have a tag, but I also know 7 others there do have one and would more than likely tag it as it was injured. I called my buddies cell 25 times and no answer. It was pure torture and I didn't care that he was a big buck, but m ore that he is a deer suffering. If it had been a doe and I didn't have a tag, I would be in the same struggle as a hunter letting a wounded deer walk away period. Has this happened to anyone here? Did you shoot and ask for a buddy to tag it and end it's suffering? Did you let it walk off and then feel disappointed in yourself for not ending its suffering, yet not disappointed that you obeyed the rules or laws? I'm torn and can't get it out of my head. The members told me after the fact that I should have ended its suffering and not worry about the no tag part which made me feel even worse. We tried catching up to it but had no clue which way it headed. Tons of tracks in the area and no visible blood either. Would like to hear your stories on this subject.
  23. Went out with my buddy and 9 others this morning. Saw 4 doe on first drive, all yearlings and the second I saw 5 doe and a BIG 8pt who was hobbling something awful. I kicked him up at less than 30 yards and he did stop out about 120yds and I had a solid rest but no tag. Buddy shot a 6pt on first drive too!!
