"Instinctive" has been redefined since the term was used to describe the class shooting with no sights. There are many ways to aim a bow without sights - gap, point of aim, split vision etc. Most will provide a far shorter learning curve to decent accuracy. And all have been used for 100's of years - Howard Hill shot split vision. Also a large number of the recurves sold in the 50, 60 and 70's had flat shelves which meant some type of rest was meant to be used - and many/most did. Many of these same bows came with holes for mounting sights as well. All these these were in wide use before the compound and before archery was "traditional". The term "traditional" came about as a way to describe non compound archery. It has since become a term that few can agree on what it means other than a non compound bow. Many want it to describe a period that never existed other than their own mind and seek to list equipment widely used before the compound as not trad. Don't be limited by trying to fit a niche that is some individuals definition. And unless you have perfect tune and form, it will be very difficult to shoot vanes off a shelf. JMO - not a shot at anybody else.

At least 8000 acres of state land in 7J.
-
I shoot carbons. Which one depends entirely on bow wght, draw length, and centershot.
-
Good idea for most to start at no more than 40 lbs. To learn to shoot well is a reasonable time frame, you must be able to have total control of the shot for every arrow in a practise session.
-
And I have no issue with anyone shooting a spike or any legal deer - just don't like them apologizing for it either.
-
Culver - I agree - I think Apparently not making myself clear. Telling someone they can't shoot a spike because it is young, but still be willing to shoot another young deer because it is a little bigger and/or has enough points is what I consider hypocritical.
-
Steve - that was my point. It's hypocritical to not want someone to shot a spike and be willing to shoot a 2.5.
-
But most would still shoot him at 2.5 or 3.5 - far from his potential. Can't just let the little ones walk if you want mature bucks. Have to let the teenagers go too - which few - even AR supporters - will do.
-
And a couple like to give a strong impression they are doing things outside the legal norm.
-
Also looking forward to see his detailed plan (which I am sure he has). Please - not just what to do, but explain how it will "fix" it throughout the state. Thanks in advance.
-
Why?
-
It's public information.
-
Most wanting more bucks to hunt aren't looking for mature deer. They want it to be way easier to kill 2.5 and 3.5's.

Simple Green is one of the best for both modern and real powders. I have left it over night with no issues.

Used mine 5 or 6 times. Extremely easy to carry. Still working on how to keep it from become butt floss.

Apparently not making myself clear - so for the 3RD time - YOU DO NOT USE THE 1/8 DRILL BIT TO REMOVE METAL!!!!! It doesn't go in a drill - you turn it with your fingers to clear the built up carbon that can be formed in the flash channel. Many times soaking, air, bread tie etc is NOT enough to get it all out and back to factory. Factory for TC and at least the older Knights IS 1/8" - just verified on my new never used Triumph back up plug. If you can't get the bit though easily, soak it and then do it. Goal is to get back to bare metal and that is 1/8" with TC. Partially blocked channel is a huge contributor to hang/slow fires and a major reason for accuracy issues.

Both equally irresponsible. Just luck neither ends up with a wounded animal.
-
How about just putting them in a brass case and press the projectile on top. Could even put the primer in the base of the case.
-
Wasn't going to post again, but you flat just flat admitted the shot was a guess and you got lucky. Certainly a doable shot - when first sighted in so you know precisely the range for the dots verified at the range - and used with a rangefinder in the field at game. It was plain luck you killed the deer and didn't wound it.
-
I am all for full inclusion. I am not ever for taking a shot at an animal that I have not practiced for and would know - not guess the trajectory.

Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
SteveB replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
Joe - apparently some feel better believing the level of their moral compass must indeed be where everyone else has set their's. Helps with the justification. -
Not drilling - cleaning out the built up carbon. Good to soak 1st. I've done it dozens of times on an Omega, Triumph and several Knights. Some start a little smaller with a 7/64. If it doesn't go thru, it is partially blocked and can cause issues.
-
209 BP are generally 1/8" - some a touch larger
-
Run an 1/8 drill bit thru the breech plug with your fingers. If it doesn't go thru fairly easily, that's your problem.
