  1. So you have a standard you want used but cannot define it or tell who will be intrusted to do so. And you think anyone should support this idea?
  2. Point is you are being intentionally vague. And who defines reasonable?
  3. Finish your definition - what are the calibers and capacities that exceed "reasonable"? Part 2 is: who defines "reasonable"?
  4. How about how many would spend 4 or 5 days looking for an antlerless deer hit bad?
  5. Again - congratulations. I explained my thoughts on what it would have meant to me in my 1st post.
  6. That's great for you. For me, knife handles or nailed to the wall of the shed.
  7. Just thought that someone so afraid of the unknown dangers of "...ppl walking around in the woods with their finger on a 3# trigger with out a single clue as to how far a deflected arrow/bolt can go and just how much damage they can cause" might have availed themselves of info most likely easily read to base base and justify their fear. Sorry I was wrong apparently.
  8. I don't believe in a 2 class enforcement system. But rest assured I will do just fine without your "city money".
  9. I would - especially cause there would most likely be unlimited tags.
  10. Ohio has had crossbows for like 20 years with currently 1/2 of the 200,000 bowhunters using them. Are there a lot of things/people getting shot with arrows there?
  11. I think most would consider just a goal - one of my biggest reason for opposition.
  12. Exactly Joe - easy to talk, harder to walk. And a points based AR still lets them feel good about shooting a buck no older then the spike that was with him.
  13. Obviously you have never seen the winters in the Adirondacks because what you have stated above could not be farther from the truth. The real capacity is what the habitat will support naturally in the worst season. If deer die without supplimental feeding, they are beyond the capacity. The only answer is to improve the habitat - not sustain the herd at an artifical level.
  14. Scott - So who is emotional? I shoot 4 to 5 does every year and haven't shot a buck in 6 years - but don't support mandatory AR. You don't like my reply so you counter with - 100% wrong in regards to me. A reply with zero logic and fact, nothing but pure emotion. And while nyantler's math shows it may be possible for the 1/3 to take all the 1 1/2 bucks, no rational person would believe that that 1/3 accounts for 75% of the kill year in and year out. Fact is and everyone honest knows that a lot of the alleged 2/3 supporters don't fell strongly enough about it to practice it voluntarily. In fact the majority of them would eagerly target the nearly 60% of 1 1/2 bucks in the 3 wmu's around me that are 6pt or better. And be proud of following AR by killing the easiest buck in the woods because it had enough points.
  15. 2/3 is a typical claim by AR supporters from supposed polls - their claims, not mine. It is also what those in the AR claimed was minimum support. Again, if there is that much support, why is it needed to be mandatory? With that much support, who is killing the 1 1/2's? As far as what's natural, the herd hasn't been close to natural in 100's of years since we have been invading their territory - 3 pt AR is going to change that when nothing else is close to what it was 100's of years ago? The deer are healthy in any part of the state where we kill enough to keep them within habitat limitations. Unless we get rid of about 95% of the people, natural is something for the history books. I answered yours - try mine. Who is killing the young bucks when everyone claims to want AR?
  16. Great idea - turn deer hunting into a state operated farm. They can't balance a budget and we want them to tackle something like that? Maybe they could dart and tag all the state allowed "shooters" once grown with 2 big blaze orange ear tags so all the hunters having problems picking a "shooter" by themselves would be relieved of any personal responsibility for their decision. They could use this to ensure all hunters get an equal opportunity at a "shooter" regardless of their skill or comittment. Socialism at it's best.
  17. In the AR pilot units? Hopefully no one. . No - statewide. The claim is 2/3 support them statewide and yet somewhere between 60 and 75% of the buck kill is 1 1/2. If 2/3 really support it (plus those who don't support but practice letting smaller bucks walk) who is doing the killing?
  18. Scot - who is shooting them if 2/3 are in support?
  19. Yeh - lets take a little over 200 replies (out of 200,000 potential) on a poll as unscientific as it gets and base a management program on it. That's as emotional a management scheme as it gets - especially when the DEC biologists have repeatedly stated there is no biological need. AR supporters love to claim that they have 2/3 support for AR in NY. I'll ask again: if that is the case, who is shooting the claimed 75% of 1 1/2 bucks every year? Many of the 1/3 who are are against mandatory AR practice it and choose to take older bucks. If the alleged 2/3 of supporters actually had the belief in it and followed it already, and you combine them with those who practice it from the 1/3, that doesn't leave a lot of hunters willing to shoot 1 1/2 bucks. Only 2 possibilities then: 1. That a small % of hunters are able to consistanly account for the majority of the buck kill. OR 2. A pretty high number of those claiming to support AR do not feel strongly enough about it to practice it.
  20. Guess. Always thought if I had something to say, I should not do it anonymously.
  21. Neither are a good idea - but state run feeders has to be about the worst ever suggested on any level.
  22. Never seen Joe swear to make a point, so I know who I would vote for.
