It will if we get the 45 degree all day rain they are calling for. Like 6 days above 32 in the 10 day outlook. I have one killed by yotes on my farm in a spot a yote would never get to a whitetail if not for the deer having no traction. Jan thaw better happen in early January!

If its anything like my 300wby you should be happy. I believe mine is a knockoff also but i will tell ya, Unless you are anal to perfection you should like it and there are very few animals alive that would not be knocked off their feet with that gun! Plus you did get a good deal on the total package i believe! Good luck with it.

LOL. Look Mister you are talking french to some of these young bucks on here. Do you think they would know about a stamp with a pic of a deer on it that went on the back of a paper licence...oh dont forget to sign the face of the sticker. lol I see this as part of a major plan. say hello to AR. Say hello to the big push to get bigger deer, more out of state hunter into Ny. More sales man!! Problem is, With all this ammo and gun problems in Ny the bow hunters are going to have to do most of the harvesting of these bigger deer. There is a big picture when it comes to the DEC. -
Yeah no kidding. I guess that shows why the vid was put up in the first place! 9 More!

Let alone see or touch a gun. Well touch one that may be used for hunting anyways. Seen some real winners wearing our colors!

I believe this goes back to a post of where you think hunting is headed! It will be an older mans sport on the HF ranches and gobbled up land. Its going to take money and with that there has to be success in your life to have money! That takes time= Age!

CWD In Pa. Again!
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in General Chit Chat
Good question, Ny state thinks cwd is the killer of all killers yet other states have been hunting and eating cwd positive deer for years, Most likely. Ny is afraid they will lose hunters if cwd comes back to town and Pa says dont worry hunt away! Strange! -
So how long will it take for it to waltz into Ny state! TESTS CONFIRM CWD CASE Ongoing surveillance detects disease in highway-killed deer from Bedford County. A white-tailed deer that was killed by a vehicle in Bedford County this fall has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). The deer, a 1 ½–year-old buck, was struck on Interstate 99 in November and sent for testing as part of Pennsylvania’s ongoing effort to monitor the prevalence and spread of CWD, which is fatal to members of the deer family, but is not known to be transmitted to humans. Test results confirming the buck was CWD positive were returned Dec. 24. “It’s not as if we hope to find CWD positives as we continue our ongoing surveillance,” Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe said. “But the fact is that each test result that comes back – positive or negative – gives us a clearer picture of how prevalent the disease is, and monitoring for CWD is an important part of our efforts to manage its spread.” This positive test is unlikely to have much impact on hunters, but it serves as a reminder that CWD has been found in southcentral Pennsylvania. The Game Commission already has established perimeters around the sites where CWD was detected previously, and within the boundaries of these Disease Management Areas (DMAs), special rules apply to hunters and residents. There are two DMAs in Pennsylvania, which are intended in part to contain and slow the spread of CWD. The buck that tested positive Dec. 24 was killed within what is known as DMA 2, a 900-square-mile area that includes parts of Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Huntingdon counties. More precisely, the site where the buck was killed is between two sites where CWD was detected last year, so this new positive shouldn’t change the shape or size of the DMA. This is the first case of CWD detected in Pennsylvania this year, but not all of the samples collected this year have been tested. The Game Commission targeted collecting and testing 1,000 samples within in each DMA, as well as 3,000 samples from additional deer statewide. CWD was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2012 at a captive facility in Adams County. Subsequently, three free-ranging deer harvested by hunters during the 2012 season – two deer in Blair County and one in Bedford County – tested positive for CWD. CWD is not a new disease, and other states have decades of experience dealing with CWD in the wild. CWD is spread from deer to deer through direct and indirect contact. The disease attacks the brains of infected deer, elk and moose, and will eventually result in the death of the infected animal. There is no live test for CWD and no known cure. There also is no evidence CWD can be transmitted to humans, however, it is recommended the meat of infected animals not be consumed. For more information on CWD, the rules applying within DMAs or what hunters can do to have harvested deer tested for CWD, visit the Game Commission’s website, www.pgc.state.pa.us. Information can be found by clicking on the button titled “CWD Information” near the top of the homepage. Further results from this year’s CWD testing will be reported at a later date. Late-season deer hunting is now underway statewide and, in some parts of the state, deer hunting is open through the last Saturday in January. For properly licensed hunters, Roe said, that means there’s still time to get out and enjoy deer hunting this year. “That’s a point that shouldn’t be lost,” Roe said. “While we will continue to monitor for CWD and keep a watchful eye on test results, the simple fact CWD has been detected in Pennsylvania shouldn’t keep anybody from enjoying deer hunting, or venison from healthy deer, as they always have. “And with the better part of two hunting seasons elapsed since CWD was first detected in Pennsylvania, it seems clear the Keystone State’s hunters understand that,” he said

what do you think they did on Letchworth when they overpopulated? what do you think they are getting ready to do on Long Island because of over population. I sure didnt see any more tags offered to hunters before they brought the sharp shooters in during the winter when they were yarded up! How long do you think new or old hunters will hunt when they see more people then deer? All they need to do is give the farms more damadge permits and they wont have to worry about any deer i some areas. -

I am afraid the AR thing is already a done deal. Few numbers and letters at a time and when done very few non AR area will be left in the state of Ny. That hand writing is already on the paper im afraid! -

Yes Sir, and then you kill that doe because she is all you saw...Then What? Did you do yourself a favor by killing the lone doe in the area. Its such a fine line with some many different areas and so many different hunters wanting different things. Thats the main reason i have no problem with somebody hunting wherever they can. If its high fence then so be it. If its with an outfitter then so be it. Take your chance on state land. Good luck to ya. Whatever it takes to make that hunter happy and enjoy their time! Bottom line is the direction of deer hunting for many will be bleak when it turns into a money sport! -

Thats right...Back to the op's question. State land with to many hunters and no deer will force choices. Bottom line is that there will not be enough viable land for the average hunter in the future. More people-less land=something has to give! -

Agreed but it does not matter to the everyday hunter if its leased or not. Big Bucks= Big $. The farmer or private land owner with locked down land is just like leased property! You are not getting on it!!! -

Bingo!!! Just what those in charge want. MONEY! Just wait till AR starts showing up outside the Letchworth Park area. Its already being leased and not by out of state people. We have been approached on our farm outside the park a number of times. Some of you younger hunters really need to see the big picture. For many of us 50yrs and up on here have seen the change and i myself dont see any positive changes coming. The states have one thing in mind when it comes to hunting! Money! landowners and farms that dont hunt or hunt much are seeing how much some are willing to fork out for 3 months of land use. I will also say except a couple areas north of Syracuse wont have to worry about any rush of hunters coming your way. Well, Not for deer anyway! -

15 years is a long time to watch something grow, and grown it has. There will only be one end all be all and that will be no hunting at all. Let me ask. how much more land was made compared to how many more people were put on? We say we need to get more hunters in the sport! To put them where????? On land already over run by orange with no deer in sight!! I have been on both sides a long time. There are no new orgs that have not been there forever. There is only one in the battle that does not have all hunting stopped in their sights. The guestion was..The Direction. Well there will only be a couple choices! -

Hey i have no problem with that way of thinking. To each their own i say. You.i.we are a very, very, very small fish in the big ocean of deer hunting and high fence. Get bored someday, do some research, I know you are smart enough to see what the future brings for most hunters. You are right on two points. They will adapt or they will get out. Sad really. You have to be on both sides of the fence to really have a good view of both sides. I will say i know in my general area and on my 700 acres. The view is not good. -

LOL. Of course you dont have the info i have but i will promise you that high fence is not going backwards any time soon in any state. More and more wire goes up every year and the general public has no say as to what a person does on private property. They already tried to hunt that dog years ago in court and lost. Product and demand. call any place in Ny state and see if you could find a hunt on any ranch. Wont happen! You make the statement..the days of gaining simple permission without the outlay of cash,time,ect..answers your question of where many will hunt in the future! more than they already do today. It also wont just be trying to find land to hunt. even high dollars will only get you a spot on land with many others that also have the money to hunt on that land with you..A club per say..so you will still have to pay and you are still at the mercy of how those other hunters act themselves. Look at the 4000 acre boys hunting club there already is in NY state..under fence! There are many like theirs just not that big. Things are a changing, thats for sure! -

Glad there are still a few of us that will do whatever it takes to get a good hunt/buck. Problem is, The longer the private land gets ate up the more people will be in our honey hole. The park itself has turned into a cash cow with whitetails. The cabin prices have doubled in the last few years because they can sell them and make cash. The numbers of cabins will be added in due time because the state can make money on them. A short 2-3 years ago a guy could get a cabin for the first few days of shotgun. Now because of lottery system a guy has to rent a cabin for 2 weeks just to be sure to get on for shotgun. Well thats a grand right there and there are what 60 cabins on the park. Its alot about the greenbacks in the end. -

Yes the state wants all the wild deer ran out before the last gate goes up. You would be shocked how many property owners have fenced in their 200-500 acres for their own private hunt. Sick of having no deer on their lands. Sick of the orange army running all around their land and the list goes on. The times have changed and will continue to change for many. Fast paced world we live in and many, many, many would rather drop a few grand and go get their buck rather than spend big money on land, food plots and the likes. Say 3 grand a year they spend on a yearly hunt rather than the thousands it would cost to have their own property. Im sure the ones that choose to pay for hunts every year could give you a list as to why they do. This is a big,big world and we here are just a dot. There is so much big money involved in whitetails now. In the end we are at fault and there is no going back now. The young smart person will see this now and act accordingly for their and their families future. The bus is leaving! -

This could be the start of a good book. The world of hunting and whitetails have change right along with the rest of the world. You either get on the train and go or you stay behind. There used to be nothing better than you being able to walk out your door and hunt on any land you asked...Gone! It used to be awesome to hunt our camp back on our hunting club...bought out by big money from the city....gone! The world is growing and the land is shrinking. It wont be to many more years and there wont be much open hunting. It will be all high fence. Outfitters or private big money clubs like some of the ones we have in Ny now. Lest we forget how bad our deer population in some parts of the country, let alone our state has been ruined by the very ones that were hired and trusted to protect them. In some states its the farmer and the insurance companies that make the decision on how many deer there will be in a state. Not the hunter buying the tags! How many states try to use cwd as a reason to try and get rid of high fence when the truth is cwd has been around for 30 plus years and year after year the record bucks are loaded with buck after buck from cwd postive states. Strange for something that we were led to believe that were going to kill all our wild herds. Its all about money. Sales of tags and the money hunters bring in. Its no longer about what the hunter wants and the hunters enjoyment. We could have no deer in Ny state and they still would make longer seasons and give away more tags just to get the money from the hunters that have a pocket full of tags and the thought that they can kill a pile of them. Alot has changed over my 40 years of hunting and alot of it has been bad and getting worse but when it comes down to where hunting is going...You better grab a club and keep your dues paid or get ready to write a check to go hunt with an outfitter for a chance at a deer or to high fence for your choice of a deer. Thats the sad truth!!! -
If you are talking that field on the right heading into Geneseo form the salt piles, I see drives there about every time im down there. I have had deer run from that side in front of me and cross over towards the collage! They move some deer!

It seems to be a trend in a lot of states as of late. Lots of states need to revamp their tagging and permits. Couple tough winters and then a hard harvest year and you herd is down for 2 to 3 years. Add yotes to that pic and its even worse. This is why high fence and outfitters have better years. Seems more hunters cant find deer on state land and the land they hunted gets ate up in the high dollar lease and bingo...Unhappy hunter, Then happy high fence and outfitters! Doc said all along that hunting was going to be a money sport. A lot of people are willing to drop money on a quick hunt!
