That buck would have been dead between the 7 and 10 second mark in the video. If not i would have shot back before he got going straight away from me. I will say i would have shot if i was the hunter. Just not when he did!

Dont know if your thinking barely used but i may know of a Vanguard 300Wby Mag. I believe it has a Bushnell Banner 6x18 scope,Weaver rings and has the vented barrel added on. I know it would knock ya a good one when shot before that was added and the trade off was a little louder gun. Sweet shooter for the few times it was shot, its a little rough on front shoulders of deer size game. If you get a cannon always try to get behind the shoulder. If not you will lose your stew meat and you will have to dig the antlers out of the mud. It will pick them up and body slam them! Kinda overkill really if used only for whitetails. Unless your shots are 200 to 400 yards at most times!

Letchworth and Rattlesnake hill will treat you right if you are the kind of hunter that is not afraid to use a compass and not afraid to walk some hills and do a tad bit of work when you thump a nice one!

You will have to look into this for us few north guys on here. My guy said 9/1 open bow but he may have took it wrong and it be like you say. Yes year starts 9/1 but no hunting till 9/27. I think thats kinda strange though. If thats the case then the tags we have leftover now are junk unless they let this year pass.

Dont be afraid to hunt state land. There is land out there open to anyone that has many deer and many great bucks that can be hunted by anyone. Cant tell ya my honey hole but i will say if i lived where you do... I wouldnt even be looking for private land!!

Talk about hunting deer in their summer pattern!!! Will be good time to harvest bigger bucks for anyone that has any on their property in the north! They make deer season even longer now in the north where there are no deer! Just really shows that the dec does not know the true numbers of deer in every area. Tough job i know, but with our winters up here killing a boat load its not even close to the population even 40 miles up Rt 81. I have a fresh yote kill on this ice we just got in an area where a deer never would have been caught with no ice. We are going to take a massive hit on a very low population and the dec is going to give you more time to hunt. Time will only tell on the tags but in my area...No does taken with any weapon! period!!!!

So i was at the feed store today and hear of talk from a guy in the know...Hunter ed class teacher..and he says the north will have a Sept 1st opening day and NO use of last years tags? Any Ideas? I sure dont like a Sept 1st opener...More like Oct 15th would be good but i like the no using last years tags. Sounds like they are trying to fix some things in Ny but a Sept 1st bug hunt does not sould like fun. Man the freaking corn fields will still be green with no thoughts of a frost yet!!

I guess the big question would be...Why the video? If the first shot was ham and second shot was lower jaw would we see the same video? I just did the same on the park with 3 flatheads. I suck though because it took me 5 shots to do the deed. No glam shots for this hunter though. I had a plan and it worked out. 3 more to add to the pole of 11 already hanging. I have no problem with the deed the hunter did but to show the world...ehhh, Not so much!

Nope i got ya 100% and we hunt much the same. I use no trail cams and no longer do much if any pre-season scouting. Stand repair is about it. I do plant plots but not much of a hunting plot. I do corn the most 3,4,5 acres and leave standing all year. When i say when,where,why..I mean on the deers part. Like i know when and why they will be in the swamp at a certin time of year. Or maybe when they will start to travel the creek beds between the 100 acre bean field and 100 acre corn field. Or when the bigger bucks like to lock down and bed with a doe in my 30 acre grown up and nasty field that nobody steps foot on for the most part. I guess the point was being that i thought i know the deer and my land of 30 plus years good enough to know if the numbers are there or not. Which i based my answer on. Not good at all this year and if this ice we just got does not give way some so they can travel, The future of the whitetails and turkeys in this area will not be good!!

Trust me after having this property for 30 years i know where,when and why the deer are where they are. With 300 acres of corn, 300 acres of soybeans,100 plus acres of swamp and woods under my hand and then thousands of acres of prime wild deer acreage a guy would..and i have..come to expect to see deer at about any time. The deer numbers are not there. Thats what i base my..If i had a good year or not... could have shot some more and lowered my numbers even more but who losses there? 99% of hunters know what to expect from their season based on past seasons. Of course things change. Some get lucky and kill a bigger deer than they hoped for but when everything is in place to have some of the top hunting in the state and your own state works against you/us on that....A season or 3 can be a bust real quick! The good newz for some of us is that we can go where the deer are!!!

Not to throw an argument out there but you are painting with a pretty big brush. I have 700 acres of prime farmland next to 20 thousand acres of prime deer land...So i have the land.. I have taken god only knows how many deer with 5 of them big enough to make a book..So i think i know somewhat of what im doing.. Trust me when i say some of us have the tools and the know how to get the job done! No matter what you do, you cant harvest whats not there!! You are right about the hard water though!!!! I had a guy do one this year on my farm. First and last warning. He dropped it with 70lbs pull but just not worth the chance. Best part was that this doe was his first ever with a bow! His choice in the future, just not on land i own. That would be kinda like the old Texas Heart Shot!!

Yes you ride right past our place on your trip to the school. Just off #81 on #11. We are up to over 30,000 homes without power now. I bought a generator back in 98 for that ice storm. Used it for 2 weeks straight and then drained the fluids and put away. That thing has sat in my barn for like what 15 years? Ten pulls or so and she was up and running today. Has been purrin like a kitten for hours now!

We are in North Jefferson Cty about 60 milies from Bubbas place. Its real bad here but worse up there his way. He is along the river and we are off the lake. Amazing how people from Ft Drum Military get stuck it their little hondas and fast and furious cars and just leave them sittin in the bank with some left right out in the road. lol I think they should make solders from the south go thru a class on Ny state winter driving before they turn them loose on the roads. No major fires or wrecks yet so were good so far!!

Yes Sir.We are in a world of hurt right now. You cant even get out to walk from house to barn. This is going to make newz all over for people but i sure hope the best for the animals. The deer and turkey are going to get hit hard. All this ice on top of the snow we had and now calling for 15 below zero the next few days. Yotes are going to feast. I got out a bit to get some gas for generator and the deer are standing and laying out in the fields away from cover!

Any PR is good PR and it seems every site you go to these guys are getting lots of PR. Walmarts across the country will sell out of duck stuff before xmas! Brilliant move on their part!!! Show them the money!!!

Just read on another site that Pa is now giving a $25 bounty on every yote killed. You kill,skin and sell the hide, The rest gets turned in and you get some play money!! How cool is that! Ar and yote bounty...Awesome!!

I would think there may be less of that. If a wife had to go in somewhere and check in a deer...for her husband..she may be afraid of getting grilled by someone, Maybe DEC guy. Or at least with the mail in of unused tags, if a person does not send tags back in there had better be a report called in to the dec to report the kill. With that, the law would be broken with the husband using the tag but if would at least be reported to dec and they may get a better handle of how many deer we really have out there!

Same here. Would never give it up. I believe in light of the check station they will someday require you to mail unused tags back in. Im all for the part of getting the masses out of using others peoples buck tags .With the numbers of tags a person gets in a sportsman pack, that hunter probably does not use others tags. Its the guy that buys his,hers and the kids buck tags and fills em up! I know up here the hunting has taken a nose dive. The state does not have a real clue as to how many deer we have and where they are.

This must be coming from a guy that hunts where there is a deer behind every tree!! The state has no clue what most of us need to do with our deer! For all the rest of us in the real deer world that do not have your problem, The rest of that post makes all the sence!

So your trying to say any kind of antlerless season reguardless of weapon would not put a hurt on the bucks that have dropped antlers? Did you ever think that could be the reason of the early muzzleloading season in the north. They wont do antler restricts in some places and then give you a late antlerless season so you can shoot the little guys they just protected the last couple months!
