You can't spread anything but food plots that grow out of the ground are looked at the same as crops Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

Were they just passing through or do you think they were bedding in the area? If they were just travelling through, maybe the food source they were going to/from has dried up and they've had to change their movements so they can eat.

Why do people still leave stuff unattended on public property? We all know the world is full of scumbags who think they're entitled to whatever they want. Why tempt them? Unless it's my land or my in law's, I don't leave anything behind when I leave. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

Mine doesn't want anything to do with anything that happens between the time she hands me her DMPs until I pick it up at the processor. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

Congrats on the healthy munchkin. Mine is 18 months and I wouldn't trade a minute. Well, except for when she decides she's not tired and doesn't need a nap. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I shower with my baby's soap and shampoo (hey, it's scent and dye free, and we have LOTS of it) before going out in the morning. I'll put on clothes that have been washed without fabric softener and dried outside.. When I go out after work, I smell like I've been driving a truck for 12 hours and just spent 15 minutes at the diesel pumps. I've taken deer in both conditions.

Nice buck. Congrats.

When I bought my TC ML, I filled out a registration card and mailed it back to TC in order to be notified in case of a recall like this. Did you do that? If I were you, if you don't have a backup, I'd just hunt with it then send it in after the season. Just keep an extra eye on your safety.
-
Quick Google search reveals that they issued this recall in June. http://www.guns.com/2013/06/14/major-recall-of-thompsoncenter-rifles/

Link no good

I wear blaze orange when hunting on state land, which is only during ML season. Too many yahoos there during regular gun season. During reg season, I'm hunting on private land. If anyone were to be shooting in my direction, they'd have to be trespassing.

Yup. The .308 holds that advantage all day long. More weight equals more energy delivered into the target.
-
Reloading is minimally cheaper than factory rounds. The benefit it working up a load that is optimum for your rifle. 40-50/bx? Man, you gotta buy in bulk online. I bought 200 rounds of .30-06 for 93 cents a round delivered a couple months ago

Exercising our Constitutional rights is "giving them a hard time"? If they feel the need to ask me what's in my trunk, I have the right to be presented with a warrant declaring what they think they're going to find in my trunk. If they think they have grounds for a warrant, then I'm more than happy to wait for it to come through. The tire comment? Well if they're that bad, then I deserve a ticket anyway.

OK, apparently we're only allowed to "like" a certain number of posts a day. I'd like this, but it won't let me.

I take it you're former, or current, military, given your terminology. I am as well. Given this, I'm sure you've been on a night fire range. Tell me, can you EVER be sure where your rounds go after seeing tracer rounds go everywhere but into the backstop on a night fire range?

Welcome. Lots of good info here. Look forward to hearing of your experiences

Just being in NYC is probable cause for a search due to mental illness! JK. I love visiting NYC, but I much more love the view of the GWB in my rear view mirror! BTW, good luck with that new mayor of yours'!

This was posted here this morning. This is one reason I don't hunt from stands. I've been able to fill my freezer with my feet firmly planted on the ground and I intend to keep it that way.
-
Belo, NO, NO, NO. Just because there's a deer in my truck, what probable cause do they have to search my case? (btw, my gun in never in a case, it's laying on the back seat of the truck, unloaded of course) If there's blood, they can ask to see what's in the bed (probable cause is the blood), once they see it's a deer that's legally tagged, I'm free to drive away. I know lots of guys, and gals, that dress in camo all year long. Please tell me how this is probable cause to search for illegal activity.

But it ruins a LOT of good shoulder roast. I've only ever lost one deer that I know I shot in the vitals with my -06, and it was because I tracked it too quickly. First deer, first buck, first 8-pt, I got excited and tracked right after the shot. Other than that one, I've never had to track more than 100 yards to get a vital-shot deer with my rifle, since I've learned to wait to track.
-
I just called an ECO I hunt with. They cannot search without a warrant as well. Their criteria for obtaining a warrant is different, but they still need a warrant
-
I'd target the vitals, same as any weapon. They'll die faster with a hole in their heart and lungs than they will with a busted shoulder.

Personally, I'd use the .308. I know guys who use .223 on deer but, for me, it's just too small. .243 is the ABSOLUTE minimum I'll use on deer, and even then, I don't like it. My deer rifle is a Rem 700 in .30-06. Use a good, expanding bullet that your rifle fires well. It's a little close to gun season to be figuring that out. Whenever I get a new rifle, I buy a box of Hornady American Whitetail, Remington Core-Lokt, and Federal to see which I can get better groups with, then that's all I fire through that weapon. Does your Mossberg have a rifled barrel? If so, modern sabots are really just rifle bullets fired out of shotguns. I'm shooting Hornady SST slugs out of my Savage 220F bolt action SG and have no problem shooting MOA at 200 yds.
