  1. With the advent of right angle rechargeable grinders there is no lock that cant be cut. They can be taken anywhere and if no one is hearing it in action then your lock/cable is cut in seconds. The 20k rpm cut off wheel will cut thru any type of steel even titanium. A good quality cable lock is still a good idea because it will slow them down and makes noise but an alarm system with a loud siren or bell and police notification is your best bet if you don't mind spending the money. Ahhh plain and simple there's not much you can really do and the old saying holds true "if they want it bad enough" you know...
  2. Interesting, I have older children in their 20s now and they speak a language I don't even understand anymore. When I dare ask what's this or what's that used for the response I usually get gives me the feeling like Im being spoken to like a child. Holy cow just watching TV has become such a technological affair with video streaming and Netflix and watching movies on notebooks, with blue ray, even freakin 3D all while laying in bed. Don't even get me started on Iphones and driods, people literally have their entire lives contained on these little devices which are 1/2 the size of a pack of smokes, and there is an app for almost everything and if their isn't an app well who needs it anyhow. The thing I'm seeing that really makes me wonder is the few young hunters that I do know have these phones in their hands almost the whole time they are sitting in the stand???????
  3. You can hunt with bow during rifle season if that's what floats yer boat. You can also use a muzzle loader during regular season.
  4. Hey what do you guys think about the Obama Care enrollment numbers?
  5. I haven't had one of those things give me a heart attack in a long time, probably for the better because Im older and probable would really have a heart attack if one of those damn things flew up in front of me...
  6. Went out early this morning and sat on a stump with my coffee. Nothing..
  7. Lights mounted on the roll bar of a jeep?
  8. I always thought that once crossbows became legal here in NY that i would do the dance and rub it in the faces of all the good people I used to have heated arguments with over the subject. But now that they have become legal I have absolutley no desire to do that. I have really grown to appreciate the people on this site even though we do not agree on everthing and have realized that me and the other folks on this site have so much in common like being NY hunters for one, that all the other stuff really doesnt matter. We are all the same, we enjoy the same thing, we are out doing the same thing at the very same time every hunting season. Good luck to all of you no matter what you hunt with.
  9. Yea to each his own, crossbow hunting will not be for everybody but it will be for me. Its not easy, I spent weeks on end in treestands with my crossbow last year and didnt get a deer. The one thing Im happy about is that I have the choice to hunt right hear in my home state with a crossbow now, right out the back door. I still will hunt PA but prob less now.
  10. I don't want to keep preaching on the Excals but you get very good string life out of them and its a snap to change a string on them..
  11. Generally most manufactures are very specific about length and weight of arrows used out of their crossbows. And of course they recommend using only their brand arrow with their bows. You can play with arrow weight by purchasing your own shafts and making your own arrows or using another manufactures arrows in your crossbow, but only go heavier. You see the thing about crossbows is they are so so damn loud that even adding 100grains of weight to your arrow wont buy you much in noise reduction and will only slow your arrow down. So the trade off of adding weight is really a waste. Crossbows store so much energy in their short limbs and short draw that its almost impossible to quiet them down. Even things like Limbsavers and dampeners for crossbow are more for reducing vibration on release and do not do much for noise reduction. It took me a lot of time to get over the noise thing myself and I really hated it when first shooting a crossbow but now I hardly even notice it and at 25yds a deer has little to no chance of jumping the string.
  12. Yea the recurves are a few decibels louder but all crossbows are loud and If you keep your shots within 25-30yds your good. Anything past that and you will be dealing with serious string jump issues.
  13. The Excals are about as loud as any other xbow. They are actually lighter than compound xbows. They make a couple of 175lb models, the Vixen being one model that is easy to draw and good for smaller framed people, women and younger hunters.
  14. The Excals weight in at about 6 to 8 lbs, very light.
  15. One thing about crossbows is they're so damn expensive. Even the used mark on Archery Talk.com has them at exorbitant prices.
  16. Wow this crossbow thing seems to really have you frayed. Its going to be all right you'll see.
  17. Well I have been hunting PA's crossbow/bow season for years and wont have the fun of buying a new X-Bow now that they will be legal here in my home state of NY, already have 2. But for you guys who are now in the market for that new crossbow I can say one thing. Get an Excalibur, they are the absolute most accurate, most reliable, simplest, easy to maintain, crossbows out there. Easy to cock with a string cocking device(strongly recommended) easy to un cock with that same device, Easy to restring with an inexpensive limb compressor string(all available from Excal). I just cant say enough about the company and their crossbows.
  18. You need a perk test which will cost roughly 500 bucks, then you will need an engineer(same guy who does your perk) to design the system, bout 2K. If you are in the dreaded Catskill watershed you will need a DEP approval of the design and possible board of health approval, another couple hundred there. Then depending on your soil and size of septic tank, leach field, and how much perkable soil you have you could easily total 10 to 12K, very easily. If you need perkable soil brought in and or a dosing chamber in addition to your septic tank you could go as high as 25K in extreme cases. But there are plenty of 25 thousand dollar septic systems in the Catskill region. If your grade doesn't permit natural flow of wastewater and you need a pump up system, sell the property. Two of the six homes I have built in the Catskill watershed had 20K septic systems. The others 10 to 15K. When your ready we can talk well drilling, lol.....
  19. Who would vote for Republicunny's or Democrapts??????
  20. How is rejecting the use of crossbows going to hurt Cuomo. I plan on hunting with my xbows no matter what it does or doesn't do for Cuomo. This in no way means I have to vote for him or send thank you notes.
  21. Dude your post is one long sentence. Try putting a space after a period the way they taught you in first grade.
