  1. The only thing I did to my Excal bows was ad their STS dampening systems to the risers, but that does zero in noise reduction but does help with the nasty recoil/jump the Excals in particular seem to have.
  2. Problem is Cuomo is going to be hard to beat, despite ramblings of low gun owner turnout at the polls come voting time the opposite is true, NY gun owners have a very high per% voter turnout but the problem is many still will vote Cuomo because they are unionized labor or work for the state and those folks will not vote Asterino/Republican I understand the idea of drumming up the base to get each and every single gun owner to the polls but I really don't think that will be enough.
  3. When I first started Xbow hunting several years ago with PA's new crossbow season I purchased my new Xbow and went out back and shot a few arrows and then immediately thought to myself man I have to quiet this this down, its loud as hell. So I spent time and money buying stickey rubber things which flew off my limbs after 4 shots and all kinds of little doodad's for my string that did little if anything to suppress sound. This is something almost every Vert bow hunter goes thru when first shooting an Xbow. Xbows are loud and theres not much that can be done to prevent this, but the tradeoff is the not having to draw in the presence of game and the speed and accuracy a crossbow gives you out to 30 yds. A lot of old time Xbow enthusiast's completely disregard the noise factor for the benefit of the speed you will get with an Xbow. The noise an Xbow produces will make deer jump every time but if you keep your shots close that's rarely a problem, trouble starts when guys start taking 40 yd plus shots with their crossbows and the deer jumps. Basically what I had to do was accept the fact that crossbows are loud and work within those limitations.
  4. I've been hunting with and killed several deer with crossbows and in all honesty I really don't see the need for anything more than a 175lb draw Excal which shoots at 305 fps. I know a lot of you guys might be considering 40 or 50 yd shots because when your shooting off a bench in your backyard your producing excellent 3 in groups at those distances or even beyond. But when your hunting whitetail you will quickly learn that the noise an Xbow produces on release will almost always make a deer jump like a grenade went off next to it and you will end up with a bad shot and a tracking job that could take you over several counties. For me its become pretty simple, I keep my shots well within 30 yds and nail them every time and at 300 plus fps it works every time despite the noise on release. Yea you could get a wheel crossbow that will push an arrow to over 400 fps but that tradeoff doesn't outweigh the reliability of an Excal bow, imo. I have and wouldn't hesitate to take a 40 yd shot with my vert BowTech bow which is whisper quiet, and have successfully taken deer at that distance but would never try that with any Xbow..
  5. Shooting the deer was the right thing to do, calling the DEC would have been a good idea too.
  6. Yea I'm still pissed about that blind and have since replaced it with a Primos. I do have another Ameristep blind which hasn't been bear molested and that has held up well for 6 seasons now, it has faded a funny looking red from the sun but is still solid otherwise. Oh I've learned to leave the entrances on my blinds unzipped now so if a bear wants to see in the can just poke a head in to look around instead of making their own entrance,lol...
  7. I got really turned off by hunting shows several years ago with scripting, baiting and hunting on fenced deer farms and the advertising and all the BS that went along with it. But there really isn't much on TV anymore other than reality TV and politics news babble and Drug commercials which tell you side effects could cause DEATH ???and so on, even heard one yesterday that said side effects could include men growing BREASTS!!! Holy SH!t? So I might actually go back to the outdoor network and start watching hunting shows once again...
  8. I would have hunted xbow from the get go. I'm hangin my vert bow up and using my Excalibur as soon as the season lets me.
  9. I did that on a treestand rail once. Makes for a bad day!
  10. Good vid http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tWQ7e6WipGU
  11. The less expensive recurves have a tendencies which include exploding after only little use. The problem with the crossbow industry is that it has grown so large and fast in the last several years, and the result has been a lot of poorly engineered xbows some of which have caused serious injury to there users. Take my advice go onto Craigslist or Archerytalk.com classifieds and buy a used Excalibur which will run you about 100 clams more than what your looking at. There's an Excal on Craig's now for 400 in the Hudson Valley and I've seen a couple on Archery Talk for about the same in the last month. The Excal is a bow that will never fail you..
  12. It really can be too warm early Oct especially in the afternoon evening hunts. I'm praying for cold air to move in early this season...
  13. You need something pretty big to be able to shoot a bow from, probably close to 6 feet at the base. It's going to require a lot of wood and will end up costing you more than a good quality ladder stand. Wood stands become dangerous over time.
  14. yea it's Obama's fault the black race has been falling apart since the 1950s or was it ever really together. You should start off with let me tell yaa about the Nigra(aka Clive Bundy)and then tell them thar blacks how they were much better off when they were slaves...
  15. Funny how a smug talking heads like Orielly can make a very good living by pointing out the obvious about Blacks in America but never giving any real solutions to the problem. You know why, because there is no solution, it's been this way with blacks in America for a long long loooonnng time and some things just can't be fixed. But there are people that have made an industry out of pointing out the problem over and over and over again.
  16. It's just starting in lower Ulster. Man I can't wait for fall, I like my summers short.
  17. Yea steak Tar Tar is something that has to be ground in a spotless grinder and it's usually very lean low fat content beef. When you think about it a rare burger or steak arnt much differant.
  18. It's amazing how they work their way into our lives and become family members. Couldn't imagine my home without dogs and cats.
  19. Kinda like Mitch McConnells wife being business partners with Michael Bloomberg. Yea it's true. When are we going to realize we're all being fooled.
  20. That little girl could have been the one who ended up dead and now will have to live with something you wouldn't want to wish on any child all because of decisions made by the ADULTS in her life?? What's the need for teaching a little 9 year old American girl to shoot an UZI?
  21. Congrats to NYSPolice. One less varmint in our state...People call this a Police State "Damn Strait it is!"
