    Value?

    That's a great idea...Good luck with the 10/10!!!
  2. I took the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd off from work...I'll be pounding the woods for the first 5 days!!! I just hope they aren't too henned up!
  3. Fantastic first bird...Congrats to you both!
  4. When and if I use them I place them no further than 20-25 yards out...One hen off be herself to my left, the other hen sideways in front of me and the jake behind her like he's feeling frisky and wants some kibbles and bits...Boss Toms don't like Frisky jakes and surely don't want them getting kibbles in bits in their hood, so they will normally head right for the jake...and they do want to come at him face to face making for some nice shooting situations. Placing your deeks too far out can lead to shooting too far by under estimating the true distance of the bird if he hangs up just the other side of the deeks...At 20-25 yards I know that once they break what I figure to be the 40 yard mark it's "Do or Die Time"...If at anytime once he's past that mark and he "Do" act funny, it's "Time" for him to "Die"...
  5. And by the end of the season you'll find your only using a couple of calls all the time and wonder why you hauled all of that stuff around for the whole season...I did it for years, then got rid of the vest entirely...my back is much better now...LOL
  6. Yup definitely pattern your shotgun to see what the pattern density is at certain ranges (20,30,40 yards) to help determine your maximum distance...With an extra full choke I would think 5's would pattern pretty well out to 30 yards...5's will give you a denser pattern than the 4's since there is more shot in the shell...This is all speculation until you actually shoot at a target with it, because some guns won't pattern well at all and you need to find that out. Read all you can on turkey hunting, watch videos, learn all you can because turkeys are one tough ombre to hunt!
  7. You could buy one of these and make it a dedicated turkey gun...My hunting partner uses an H&R 10 ga. single shot turkey special he bought for around $150.00...All he did was mount a red dot scope on it and it was ready to roll.
  8. That sure is a nice one...Hope to see a pic with him layin on the ground next week!
  9. Good luck to all those taking young'ins tomorrow...Sadly my youth done growd up so I'll be staying home this weekend!
  10. The flocks are finally breaking up around here...Driving home lastnight I saw 5 different small flocks in areas I haven't seen any turkeys all winter...Just about a 1/4 mile from my house I had to stop for 2 jakes and 6 hens standing in the road!
  11. It changes from year to year here...If the Soldiers are deployed the number obviously drops but as for the locals the number seems to stay the same especially during the opening week, then after that the only ones left are the diehards.
  12. Good luck...Can't wait to see the pictures!
  13. Just wanted to give everybody a heads up about some pro-gun events coming up, especially this weekend...I'll be in Governuer Saturday!!! Hope to see some of you there! http://www.ny2agrassroots.com/upcoming-events/
  14. I had to pull over the other night on my way home from work to take a picture of this flock of turkeys...Sorry the picture isn't better but they were 300 yards from the road and I took it with my phone...There were more birds off to the left that I couldn't get in the picture!!...I sure wish I could hunt this place!!!
  15. This was just the first shot fired, there will be many more to follow. This law suit was described by some as lacking substance and never felt it would go anywhere from the get go.
  16. I'd have to say gun...I love my bow and really enjoy hunting with it, but I hunt to eat and would surely starve to death if I had to do it all with a bow...LOL
  17. Sorry Tug...Been there myself and the courts always think the mother is the best provider...I'm not sure if that mentality will ever go away.
  18. Welcome to the board...You will find no greater satisfaction than killing, preparing and eating wild game that you used your new found skills to hunt.
