WOW! Talk about personal attacks!! Eddie, bet you wish you had never started this topic. Don't take it personally, it's all in fun cuz we like ya'!! ;D PS, does Geritol really work?

Pretty sure your question is making the hair on the neck's of all true ML enthusiasts stand on end. ONE well placed shot for ONE clean kill. If the deer were dumb enough to stand there, I'd probably attempt a 2nd shot. After that, swallow your pride and give it up! ???

I guesss in the end you have to hunt where the areas are avilable, be it high pressure, ticks, chiggers, small-ish deer, etc. Can only imagine your frustration. Thanks for the info!!

You sound like the masked executioner sharpening his beheading axe. lol ;D

Oh ohhh, you're naming your deer? Makes it hard to put the x'hairs on them in a year or two. I can't keep track of the bucks in my area. They're too elusive and move around before, during & after the rut. Have a small doe I've been watching for 2 1/2 years since she was a fawn. Next year for sure I'll be sizing her up for the freezer. My little buddy burgers. mmmm

I've read a couple of stories about attracting deer that were so absurd I almost believing them. A white 5gal pail thrown on a deer trail within 25 yds of camera or bow shot. Deer's curiosity - can't resist investigating the pail. Another was a person that typically cut firewood on hunting property. Ran chainsaw for 4-5 minutes, shut it off and positioned camera or yourself. Apparently deer come in to see if vegetation (leaves) is available.

Bean-o takes care of gas > Sorry eddie, don't mean to belittle you inquiry. Know some folks really believe in its' benifits. Just wonder if the Iroquois were this concerned with BO? Now I remember, they'd put a deer hide over them. ???

Beginning to see a few more, light rubs every week. Like the "Moon-man" mentioned, annually in early October the number and intensity of rubs will greatly increase. Think right now the bucks are looking for areas with does to set-up camp for the rut.

Supposed to reduce body odors........ Also turn you into the Hulk. ???

If this isn't a deer on its' hind legs, I'm not going into these woods in the dark!!!! lol ???

Would have thought the doe had her fawns weaned by now?

I'm from WNY and having never been to LI am under the misconception it is all residential. Tried to Google (satellite) LI and appears to be small, intermittent areas of non-residential plots. Y-N? See a lot of references to; no place to hunt, NYS land, ticks, chiggers and specific DEC regulations. Please fill me in and educate me!!! What's it like to hunt on LI?

There was an article in the last (current) issue of Bow Hunting discussing arrow set-up for penetration. Author prefered penetration vs the larger, heavier arrows that gave more kinetic energy. Interesting article, but to each his own choice. BTW - my arrow set-up was almost exactally what your original S/U was.

There's very little detail in a peep sight, just light and your arm's length sight housing with the pins. If you were to put a finely detailed feature within the peep, like a thin crosshair - then there's a problem. I did have to find just the right sized peep (ID) to just allow the sight housing to fill the peep, then focus on the pin & target. I wear tri-focals, so close, middle & far distances are an issue w/o glasses. Like Eddie is finding out, it takes time to adjust. I do okay, never be a tournament archer by any stretch of the imagination. Can consistently put them in the kill zone when practicing out to ~30 yds. At 35-40 yds I begin to loose sharpness in the target because I'm focusing on the pin with my middle lenses. May not be my vision issues, but the situation that really messes me up is if I'm in bright light & shooting into a darker or shaded area. I've pretty much had to give up on any rifles with open sights and my deer slug gun with the beaded sight. Do okay with my turkey shot gun with a beaded sight, with that close counts. Don't need to tell any of you other gray hairs, just need to adjust around your limitations.

Used to see the DEC set-up a decoy and watch it from a side road above Palmyra in Wayne County. Wonder if this were these jerks got caught?

Who uses pop-up blinds for deer? Are they effective?
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in General Hunting
Heavy snow will absolutely crush a pop-up blind. First the top caves in or collapses and then fills with snow. Sides collapse with the weight, it's not a pretty sight!!! Moral of my fubar is to put it away before it starts snowing. -
Apple picking in Sullivan / Orange county? Any recommendations?
nyslowhand replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Don't do it - it's hard work and the pay stinks! lol Are you asking about what apple varieties to pick for home use or hunting the orchards? -
Come on, give yourself some credit. Bet you could! I'm amazed it entered the golf ball, would have thought it'd deflect the ball...? Some day I want to try the watermelon or gallon jug of water, looks neat.

Are you waiting on a specific buck and or size during opening week?
nyslowhand replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
Aren't cherries long gone, mostly July-ish? -

All items still available. Want just the broadheads? Make me an offer! -

Going through the same frustrating time as you, Doc. Had my property 7 years, took a couple of years to figure them out. Got so I had them patterned pretty well during the summer & fall. This year is totally different! Maybe the coyotes I began seeing signs of last year. I'm confident the deer are there, possibly sticking to the thicker cover for protection. -
Probably 20 yds, +/-5 yds. Few closer and couple farther. Intentionally setup my treestands in areas or near trails giving me the 20-25 yd shots. Have one stand in the open woods, mainly for gun. I practice some at 40 yds for what I call a desperation shot.

Reason I ask is, three years ago I bought one that has the guille covering basically for foul weather hunting. First year I hunted only 3 times and saw a doe poke its' head out of the brush, turn around and leave. That's all I saw. Didn't put it up last year. This year I put it up between a couple of trees in a typically heavily traveled area and brushed it in in early August. Since I put it up I have not seen any tracks or signs of deer in that area. Maybe the blind???
