What the heck is the spike thinking?. ??? Must be trying out his new found testosterones. Or maybe he's playing, but I'm sure the 8pt isn't!
-
You did enlighten us about scent dispersion within the topic Do You Hunt in the Rain, or something like that.
-
I've never hunted in a situation other than a treestand. How do you guys use the info from your wind indicators if a deer is coming in to a still hunt loaction? Never found the wind to be a factor, other than a deer's final approach to something they sense or were curious about. Fill me in, am I missing something?

This topic did take a detour from what the originator was asking!

I did read all the responses before I commented, always do! I've also read a lot of other topics where the discussions get pretty heated. Certain members always seem to be in the midst of these battles. Not always, but in general with no specific individual(s) being singled out. My take is - everyone is entitled to their opinion, short of battling over whose is correct. There is no right or wrong with an opinion, it's merely a person feelings about a subject. Solid, fundamental opinions are fact based as opposed to weak ones that are based on hearsay. 99.9% of the time you'll never change another person's opinion. Opinions are great, it's what makes us all different and perfect grounds for discussions. Back to Blaze Orange, please!!

A thread for wind direction... Pretty ingenious!!

I really want to comment on egos, opinions and "battle of the wits", but this is about BO.

Great bear!!! Pretty sure if he/she came lumbering under my deer hunting stand I'd no longer be Scent-Free!!!!! ???

This type of study at Cornell does not surprise!! My ex-wife worked at Cornell in the DNR and had 1st hand knowledge of studies & "weird science". The one that comes to mind is one of the departments was attempting to develop a feather-less chicken. Apparently this was encouraged by the poultry industry. They had to discontinue research when the chickens became very susceptible to pneumonia. DUH!!! ???

Really, a book & crossword puzzles? Have heard of people with gameboys and cell phone apps. Multi-tasking? Not me! I'm staring out into the brush the entire time I'm there.

Neat picture! Too bad you weren't able to get it on video. Looks like the little guy is the more aggressive or protective buck. Possibly the bigger buck stumbled into the area the smaller one was trying to establish as his own. They are all in the process of establishing their own core areas now that the velvet is off. My guess is that there probably wasn't much sparing, before one left. Nothing like when the rut gets closer and the antlers are clattering.
-
Early bow season, not many deer sightings in my specific spot during mid-day. Most often see them to & from feeding areas in early morning or late PM. During the rut, most anytime can be productive.

Hunt only a max of 800yds from vehicle. Carry bare min to pull off hunt. Other than essentials, a couple bottles of water and few granola bars. No more than a fanny pack and my jacket pockets will hold. Do carry cell phone set on vibrate, just in case.

How often do you sight in your slug gun ?
nyslowhand replied to fasteddie's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Hung the shotgun up about 3 years ago Shot ML as often as I can for practice. Pattern my turkey gun, NO WAY! 12 ga. NEF, single shot, 3 1/2" mag. That dude will put the hurting on you if you're not shouldered firmly! -
About time, huh! Bet you were begining to wonder.

When do you typically hunt coons with your dogs? If it's after deer season, I may have a place at the north end of 8F I'd like to get the population under control. Send me a PM.

This is a new view on the justification of foodplots and managing deer. I like it, bit it's a weak argument that approaches the "Tree Huggers" viewpoint. A different slant on the topic all the same. LOL Don't know when the situation would arise, but do you mind if I quote you? BTW - I feel the same about the cute, furry bunnies being brutilized by those big nasty foxes & coyotes!
-
Anger management for certain individuals.
-
Doc- you've given two seperate situations, which one do you think is skating on their taxes? The renters with school age children or the owners of rental properties due to assessment inequity? I pay school taxes and have never had children in this school district. I pay school taxes on a vacant piece of land. Obligated to pay for both and I do.

On the show, a segment was about how a 100", 2 1/2+ year old deer in an area that has hunting pressure and human intrusions is as much a trophy to hunters as a 170" buck from remote areas in Iowa farmlands or Saskatchewan woods. The 100" buck becomes smart very fast and thus elusive. They rightfully stated that the 100" buck was a trophy that any hunter in those areas should be proud of. The title was "100" Booner". You need to watch the show & discussion to get the full impact of the comparision.
-
Just watched that too. Really hit home, typical of where I hunt. "Street Smart" 2 1/2+ year old bucks.
-
Had that on my previous bow, it was okay. When I upgraded my bow, went with the Black Gold. More fiber optic wire wraps and larger diameter pins. Better in low light and general sighting for my eyes.

Fast eddie would disagree with his new found hearing. KA-zing or Phttt. Sorry eddie, no slam intented.

I did not know there were levels of color blindness? Always assumed you could differentiate colors or you couldn't. Learn something everyday. Very ingenious using the peroxide!!! Guess we all find ways to deal with our limitations.
