I hope you are right...I also hope the fish stay in area...We had two cameras down and the area was literally crawling with nice perch...We tried minnows, oak leaf grubs, spikes, earthworms , plastics and hair jigs and had exactly one bite between 5 fishermen..

We had a nice morning on the lake....Found a school of HUNDREDS of perch, and they all had lockjaw....Caught ONE perch between two boats...After that we did manage to jig up a couple of lakers....A good morning of fishing, just not a good morning for CATCHING...

In about ten minutes I am heading for Keuka Lake with some buddies, two boats. We plan to launch at the State Park at Branchport and try to locate some schools of perch... Plan "B " if the perch don't co-operate, we will try for some lakers.. Gonna be chilly for awhile...I'm dressing like Nanook of the North going out to harpoon some seals...

This 4 point not legal in the NY antler restricted zones.

One of my hunting partners shot a buck similar to that down in Potter County PA a few years ago...he was not quite THAT big, but was an 18" wide four point with long beams and brow tines.. Yeah, it was illegal, because ARs were in effect in PA at that time.. I'd like to turn him in, but that was 8 or 10 years ago and probably the statute of limitaions has expired for such a heinous crime.. -
Happy birthday, guys ! I hope ya get lucky.....<<grin>>....

Geneva has a nice Legion post also....

Hmmmmmmm...That sounds like my favorite place to be, back when I was dating. Either THAT, or me crossing a shallow stream, in which most people would be " Knee Deep"....

Addison..." The Home of Jimmy Greengrass"...... Jimmy was a major league baseball player back in the late 40's/early 50's... On ANOTHER note, The Ritz Café was a bar/grill on Main St. back when Addison was known as a somewhat rowdy town.. The sign over the door read " The Wild West center of Steuben County"... The Ritz closed a number of years ago and was bought by a Christian group..It is now a church... I can hear some of the local departed "cowboys" turning over in their graves.......Hehehehe......

Yeah, same here in SE Steuben....Flocks around here don't seem to disperse much until mid to late April...Then when it happens, it happens fast...

It's been my experience that a gobbler will try to get back with a hen in the spring much quicker than he'll try to regroup with other toms in the fall. Fall gobblers sometimes regroup in a couple of hours, but just as often it' several hours, or perhaps tomorrow or the next day. Bust a tom away from his lady friends in the spring, and it won't be long before he tries to re-connect with them.

You got a smokin' deal, even if the guns have been " well used".. A H Fox shotguns were built to last forever...No planned obsolescence there.. The 03-A3 Springfield ( assuming it all original) is a fine example of an American military rifle, and they aren't MAKING any more of them. The Winchesters and the Marlin are good quality American firearms, too...Good score, my friend ! -
I wasn't taking my nap..I was....er...uhh....Well, never mind what I was doing.. AND my Mom was wrong..it DIDN'T make me go blind... Of course, I can't see worth a damn now, but that's just old age...Yeah..That's the ticket...

I was watching an episode of " North Woods Law" the other night. A bowhunter in Maine had hit and lost a buck and had contacted a warden to help him find a tracking dog service to try to recover his deer. The warden asked the hunter how far away the deer was when the shot was taken..The hunter answered "Ten yards"... The warden shook his head and said " Too CLOSE"...Then he proceeded to educate the poor ignorant bowhunter and tell him that at ten yards the arrow had not yet gained enough velocity to have sufficient " kinetic energy" to penetrate well...He said that ranges of 20 to 30 yards were optimum, presumably because by then the arrow had gained enough speed to have sufficient " kinetic energy"... I decided that must be in Maine the arrows are rocket propelled so that they actually GAIN velocity after leaving the bow, rather than lose velocity like arrows in other states do. I love those programs...There is SO much cool stuff to be learned from them.

For $700 I'd be on that deal like a crow on a pig turd !! -
Yeah...I know how you feel, Rac... I have hit a great horned owl ( carrying a muskrat) a screech owl and two hawks...The hawks were both unidentified as I was at highway speed and could not stop to check them, but from the size both appeared to be medium sized accipiters, probably sharp shins, cooper's or perhaps harriers... Every one of them swooped in front of me at high speed and were bouncing off my windshield or fender before I knew they were there...

Those super tight patterns are fine for all of you stone cold killers with icewater in your veins. I like a little more margin for error, myself. Factor in the adrenaline rush, sometimes less than ideal shooting positions, etc. it is pretty easy to miss a bird that gets into " closer than comfortable" range with those softball sized patterns. When a gobbler gets closer than 25 yards, I get REAL nervous, despite the fact that that I have killed well over a hundred of them. With standard 3" turkey loads like Winchester XX or Federal Premium, my turkey guns throw sure kill patterns out to past 40 yards, and that is as far as I want to shoot anyway. It also gives me a bigger, more forgiving pattern at the range where I prefer to kill my birds, which is from 25 to 35 yards...
