  1. I live 11 miles from Woodhull and I haven't heard any rumors of any 150 pound wolves ( or ANY wolves) being taken around here. I have seen perhaps a dozen wolves while hunting in Alaska and northern Quebec. That critter looks like a coyote to me.
  2. That explains it.. I had a 350 class 6X6 walk past me this morning and I thought it was a deer. I didn't shoot because I filled my buck tag and am hunting on a DMP. DAMN ! Wish I knew there were elk in NY and I could hunt them !
  3. Who's the good looking guy posing with the coyote ? WHAT did you do with my buddy Larry ? Hehehehe..Good shootin' Partner !
  4. My brassicas are getting hit, but only after dark... I assume that during the day they are eating the tremendous acorn crop..I have seen a few acorn crops this heavy, but never one heavier..All they have to do is stand up from thier beds and eat.. They sure aren't moving much to feed..

"Those look too perfect to be real".... Relax, Paula...That's what he tells ALL the girls....
  6. Didn't your Grandpa ever tell you never to whittle toward yourself ? Just be happy you weren't holding the skull in your lap when the knife slipped......<<cringe>>.... Oh yeah..Nice likeness on the bandage...
  7. I agree with dbhunter.... VERY often a lone antlerless deer will turn out to be a button buck. I prefer to shoot adult does, and I generally avoid shooting single antlerless deer. An adult doe will MOST OFTEN be in the company of other deer.
  8. Glad no blood clots, Growie...They can be BAD news... Hope ya heal up soon.. Make Mr. B drag your deer tomorrow...<<grin>>...
  9. Yup...Ruger 44 mag carbine...They had a tubular magazine and were introduced before the 10/22. They were intentionally similar to the US .30 cal M1 carbine which was very popular and available in the 60s, both as military surplus and aftermarket repros.
  10. 50 for me....Even when I was on active duty in the service I was lucky and managed to get leave for the first week of deer season. There was one year in the 1970s when the temperature on opening day was down near zero and my oil furnace quit working. I had to quit hunting about 9 AM opening day to go home and get the furnace going so my pipes didn't freeze...BUT I was in the woods when the season opened. As I remember the only deer I saw that day were some saw from the truck as I was driving home to work on my furnace.
  11. I think I know your problem. Your head is sideways...
  12. Our local deer processor has been doing that for years. They hang the deer from a strong beam and use aircraft cable rather than rope. Works great, even with cold rigor mortis deer.
  13. Hmmmm...Reminds of the 1960s...Except on a MUCH smaller scale... Hopefully innocent residents won't get prosectuted for defending thier lives and property from a bunch of opportunistic, scumbag rioters who are there just to steal anything they can get thier hands on.
  14. Awesome bulls...Congrats to your Dad and Owen...The brow palms on your Dad's bull are incredible !! Where did you fly out of ? What unit did you hunt ? The video brings back fond memories...I did 5 Alaska hunts, one float and 4 unguided drops... My buddies and I never took any bulls like those monsters, though..Great job .. Unless you have done it, few people realize the work it takes to get a moose from the spot where you shot it to a place where an airplane or boat can get to it.
  15. Just a trace here in little Appallachia, but cold and windy with a chill facter down around zero. This weathered old gnome ain't going out in THIS weather ! I'll spend the day in my garage by the heater cutting up my deer..
  16. Great pictures and fine bucks, Jerry !! Congrats to you and your lovely daughter. You didn't happen to enter them in the deer pool at the Campbell Legion, did you ?

    Bull

Sorry for your bad luck, Dom..I'm a little surprised that ANY drinker in NY is not aware that it's illegal to have an OC in a vehicle. Kinda like when I was about to board a plane a few years ago out west on my return from a hunting trip. A guy behind me going through security had a damn BOWIE KNIFE in his carry on... Needless to say, the bells and whistles went off after that ! You have to wonder where that dude has BEEN since 9/11.... Living under a ROCK, perhaps ?
  18. I have shot 1100s and 11-87s for close to 50 years. Sometimes if you ease the action closed trying to be quiet, the action does not lock and will not fire. One good way to assure that it is locked after you ease it closed is to give the back of the operating handle a firm whack with the heel of your hand to make sure it locks. Also, if your action was gummed up a little with excess oil or dirt, woods debris, etc. it might not lock firmly when eased closed. Cold temps would magnify this effect. If the gun did not go CLICK, the ammunition was NOT an issue.
  19. You need to pull the trigger harder.......LOL... Seriously now...Did the gun go CLICK when you pulled the trigger..?..Was there a mark on the primer ..?.. Are you sure that the action was locked ..?.. Is there any chance the safety was not disengaged ..?... There has to be a mechanical reason for this failure to fire.
  20. Geeze, JB, I never got that scientific.... I always just measured center to center from the two farthest holes.. Not sure how the BR guys do it.
  21. Now THAT is a bragging group, Doe...<<smile>>..
  22. Center to center that group is less than 2"... Not a "bragging" group at the range, but a decent group for a big game rifle for us mere mortals.
  23. The OP said rifle so I assume it's not a slug, but a rifle bullet. IF those squares are one inch , that's about a 1 3/4" group, which is perfectly acceptable hunting accuracy for shots out to 300 yards, which is farther than most of us shoot. I'd move the zero about an inch and a half to the left to center the group on the bullseye. If you are hunting in the woods, a dead on 100 yard zero is fine. If you may be shooting farther, raise the zero to 2" or 3" above center and you''l be able to hold on brown out to 250-300 yards, depending on what chambering you are using.
  24. GREAT buck...He's a monster... CONGRATS !!
