Sounds pretty steep to me for a whitetail hunt. For that money you could hunt mulies and/or elk in the west or do about 5 pronghorn hunts, which in my opinion are more fun than sitting around in a tree waiting for a whitetail. You could even do a DIY caribou hunt in Alaska for 5K or thereabouts or do a fully guided moose hunt in NF.

It is NOT illegal to shoot from a boat. Duck hunters do it all the time . It IS illegal to shoot waterfowl from a boat while it is under power from a motor, but as long as the forward motion from the motor has stopped, it is legal to shoot from a motorboat. I would assume the same rules apply for big game. As far as shooting from a vessel that is being paddled, rowed, or sculled, as far as I know, you can blaze away.

I've never done it, but a couple of local guys used to float the local river every year in a small boat during deer season, and they were very successful .

Hey, ya never know... it might turn out to be Jimmy Hoffa...

Weaver would be a sentimental favorite with me, because I had several of the the steel tubed El Paso Weavers made during the 60s and they were excellent scopes. One was a K10 that I had on a Remington 722 in .222. Bought the rifle in 1965 ( used) for $65 and the scope in 1968 for about $60.. Sold the rig a couple years ago for $600.. One was a K 1.5 that I had on a Rem 1100 skeet gun which was my deer gun for about 20 years..Sold that also, but it always performed well. The other one, which I still have ,is a K 2.5 which I had on a couple of different deer rifles and now is attached to the cantilever mount for my Rem 1100 12 gauge slug gun. Works as well now as it did when I bought it in 1973... I also had a V 3x9 on a 25-06...Good scope also... I don't own any modern Weavers, but have heard good reports on them on internet forums...

Yes, I have used them and they work on both puddlers and divers..I always mixed them in with full body decoys, but I suspect they would work on thier own also... Advantages..They are cheap and light...Disavantage...They are somewhat bulky, but no more so than magnum duck decoys.

Pizza isn't REAL food anyway.. It's something to eat when you're hungry and there is no REAL food available.

My fish cleanings go in a 5 gallon bucket to be deposited at a culvert on a friend's property, about a mile from the nearest house. The resident coons love me, and the cleanings are usually gone by the next day.. Chicken scraps, fat, meat trimmings, etc go on the ground next to my utility shed..My semi-pet crows clean them up promptly. There's one out there right now gobbling down the trimmings from last night's Delmonico.. Probably the best fed crows in town.

Take gallon white bleach bottles... Hit each one with a couple of shots of black spray paint so they show black/white...Mix them in with your standard decoys..A couple dozen of them go a long way to increase your spread and they look surprisingly realistic.

For a HUNTING sandwich... Deer heart sliced about 1/4" thick with salt, coarse ground black pepper and Hellman's mayo on crusty bread... Kinda hard to get that on opening day, tho....

I have to admit that the deli pastrami sandwiches in the city are the best..Never had anything like them here upstate.. Unfortunately, that's not reason enough for me to go there..When I was relieved of active duty in the Navy in 1973 I said I'd never return to NYC by choice... I went back in 1977 on business and stayed overnite in bayside, Queens while Son of Sam was active...I was there overnite awaiting a work visa for Mexico. NYC is the only place that I ever NEEDED a handgun to defend myself... ( Brooklyn, 1971)... Luckily for me I survived the incident.. I swore at that time that I would never again be put in the position of needing a gun and not HAVE one.. One good reason for me to steer clear of NYC. If I can't PACK, I AIN'T going there... As far as good food goes, there are some awesome restaurants in the Finger lakes region..I would put the Pleasant Valley Inn in Hammondsport up against anyplace.. There are also some excellent restaurants in Corning, Elmira, and other places here in the southern tier.

Thanks for the heads up, Biz.. I need to get my license so I'll be ready to apply for the doe tags as soon as they become available. I haven't killed many PA bucks since they started AR, but I have shot quite a few nice fat dolly deers. Never ate a doe I didn't like.

I haven't been THIS entertained since I watched my cross eyed aunt give Uncle an enema... I'm going for more beer and popcorn...
-
Thanks, Larry... I'm going to Keuka for smallmouths in the morning, but I plan to give the river a try for walleyes within the next week, assuming we don't get more high water.. Now if the Mermaid didn't keep coming up with all those HONEYDOS for me....<<sigh>>...

Are you talking about " Wet DREAM Republic" ? As charming as you are I suspect you may spend lots of time choking your chicken..
-
Glad to hear you have that all figured out, Biz... You should write a book...

My daughter tells me that one of her former boyfriends STILL worries that I might shoot him.. Come to think of it, he WAS kind of a sneaky little pencil necked geek.. He may be working for Andy Cuomo now... Maybe I SHOULD have shot the nose pickin' little moron...Hehehehe...

Sad news....He was a talented and versatile actor... He was at his best playing Tony Soprano, but he played many other roles well too..
