Remington 870 12 gauge question
Pygmy replied to jfarrell90's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
For ranges of 100 yards or less, I have had excellent performance and accuracy in my Rem rifled 12 gauge barrel with Winchester Standard Velocity BRI sabot slugs. They shoot little bitty groups in my gun and kill well..I have only recovered 1 slug from perhaps 20 deer... They also kick significantly less than many of the high performance slugs that are currently available. They are not a long range item..They drop like a rock beyond 100 yards. However, at woods ranges they are very accurate and very effective, and they cost a lot less than many of the slugs available today. -
WesternNy....I'm one up on you... Early has called me a JERK twice in one post... He only called you an IDIOT once... I'm not sure...Does one IDIOT equal two JERKS...??.. I think it's time for my NAP.... I'm so confused....

I hope the scope was an old El Paso Weaver....<<grin>>... Just as an aside, my main MEAT GUN is a push feed Win Mod 70 in .280 Rem... I've killed a lot of stuff, with it from woodchucks to Alaskan bull moose, at ranges from point blank to 400 + yards... On it's very BEST day, it might group 1.5" at 100 yards...Typical is somewhat larger than that.. I'd say that old Woodmaster shoots pretty good...

The best remedy for poison ivy is Virgin Oil.... The hard part is find a legal age virgin in New York that will allow you to squeeze out enough oil to thoroughly marinate the affected body parts...

Me neither... However, while I have always favored semi shotguns, I've never been a fan of semi rifles, unless it is a military classic like the Garand M1 or FAL L1A1.... However, the semi Remingtons, despite thier faults, have been tremendously popular with deer hunters in the Adirondacks and in Maine, Ontario and New Brunswick Canada... As a group, it seems I see more Rem 740s, 742s and the more modern models ( 750 or whatever) than than any other group of rifle.. Must be somebody thinks they are a pretty good choice for deer/bear/moose...

270 WSM deer load (if anyone is interested)
Pygmy replied to eagle rider's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Sounds like you have a winner there, Eagle... We rifle loonies are always in interested in reading shooting/reloading details, even if they don't involve a chambering that we happen to use .... BTW...I've had similar results to yours with the Gamekings , except it was the 160 Grain in my .280..They kill well, but tend to disintegrate at magnum velocities. They work better at slightly lower velocites.. Since I started using Barnes X, TSX and TTSX bullets for all of my hunting loads( except for my M1) I no longer worry about bullets holding togather, even at magnum velocites. -
Those are some hawg smallmouths, Larry...

Best wishes for your Dad's full recovery.. He's lucky to be alive. That working with a saw in the woods is a dangerous business, no matter how experienced or careful that you are.. -
Those numbers mean NOTHING in the value of the trophy... Take my word for it, young feller, your Dad's buck would be the buck of a lifetime for MOST of us mere mortals, especially taken on public land.. Congrats to your Dad..

Just use your imagination, Sweetheart... I assure you it would be MUCH less traumatic than seeing the real thing....hehehehe... One look might cause you to turn to STONE....

Thanks, Paula Darlin'.... You've set me free... I think I'll put on my nipple clips and Lizard-skin thong and run free and semi naked through the rain.. That should give the neighbors something to talk about !

Not that there's anything WRONG with that....<<wink>>....

I was married for 35 years and wore a beard most of the time...I'd shave it now and then when I got tired of trimming it, but I always wore one during fall hunting seasons and spring gobbler season. My current partner, The Mermaid, doesn't like whiskers, so I'm clean shaven MOST of the time..I still grow a beard for deer season and gobbler season, but shave it off at the end of the season. After my whiskers started turning mostly white, people always commented how much younger I looked when I shaved the beard.

How do you identify the bride at an Italian wedding ? She's the one with the moustache... How do you identify the bride at a Polish wedding ? She's the one with the braided armpits.....

" Stinky Beard"... That reminds me of a joke... An older female comedian ( either Phyllis Dilller or Joan Rivers) , once said.... " My doctor told me that if I have one more facelift, I'll be wearing a Van Dyke ".....

Be careful out there...Two weeks ago a couple of my buddies fished a dude out of the middle of Keuka Lake... He rented a kayak, went out in rough water and swamped it.. Fortunately, he was wearing a life vest. -
Remington 870 12 gauge question
Pygmy replied to jfarrell90's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Another tip...If you have a variable speed drill, start the hole in the buttstock at a low speed to help avoid splintering.. I did several 1100's and a Browning A-5 and all turned out well..Just take your time and you'll be fine. -
Old ? Yeah..I remember when Moby Dick was a minnow.. I've lived all my life upstate ( Little Appalachia), except for a couple years when I was working for Uncle Sam and living on a tin can which was home ported first at the Brooklyn Naval Yard and then at Ft. Schuyler, da Bronx..

Thanks, Shawn...From you I consider that a compliment..

One negative for me regarding a cancellation hunt would be that I would miss out on the preparation, planning and anticipation, which to me is nearly as enjoyable as the hunt itself.
