  1. I generally fill 2 or 3 tags between NY and PA... I like to pull the trigger but I don't need any more meat than that. Besides, after cutting up 2 or 3 I get tired of cutting and wrapping.
  2. Growie....I LOVE it when you talk dirty....( lustfull SIGH)....Hehehe...
  3. Does that mean you choke your chicken whenever it becomes unruly ? I honestly LOVE poultry !
  4. If they were trespassing on my property, I might contact the authorities... If it were someplace else, I'd mind my own business.
  5. Unfortunately, caribou tags are no longer available to nonresidents in much of Newfoundland nowadays.. The herd has decreased dramatically...Some sources blame heavy predation of calves by coyotes and black bears, but I am not sure they really know the reason...
  6. If your lovely bride wants a big bear, she's in the right province.. Newfoundland has some big bears..The Newfies love to have you shoot them, too.. They hate the damn things..!..
  7. Good luck to you and your lovely bride, Grizz... First trip to Newfoundland ? You'll love the people up there..Very friendly and they love to have a good time. I hope you've worked to get in shape..The terrain up there is beautiful, but the walking is some of the toughest I have ever experienced, and I've hunted some pretty rough, steep and rugged country in the west, Alaska and other parts of Canada. I went two years ago and my left knee has never been the same. The boggy ground is very difficult to negotiate. Lots of moose, though..I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of you with Bullwinkle and Wifey with Yogi...<<grin>>.. Oh yeah...Thumbs up on the .338 Win. Those 225 grainers will handle the biggest bull just fine.
  8. It's a coon...Foxie Loxie will have his hands ( paws) full with that critter.
  9. Every rifle is an individual. There are many factory loads available for the 30-06, and the most expensive are not necessarily the most accurate in any given rifle. If I used factory loads, I'd certainly try the less expensive first. Other than the Remington green, Federal Fusion or PRVI Partisan are a couple choices that come to mind, and you can buy them for $20 a box or maybe less. Have you tried different weights in the Remington coreloct ? Some rifles show a marked preference for a heavier or lighter bullet..Assuming that you are using the rifle for deer hunting, any standard cup/core bullet will work just fine. If your rifle does not group well with 150 grain bullets, try some 180s. Performance wise, you and the deer will never know the difference at normal hunting ranges. Before you spend a lot of money on different ammo, be sure to check that all of your scope connections, bedding screws, etc. are properly tightened.
  10. It can also be sliced across the grain ( as in steaks) and broiled or flash fried... Try it rare or medium rare, if you like your beef or venison that way..You may be surprised how good it is.. Just because it is poultry doesn't mean it has to be cooked well done. We ain't talkin' CHICKEN here.. I also have a couple of friends who bone it out, including the legs and thighs, and crockpot it with onions, red wine or whatever seasoning you like..Tender, and reminiscent of beef or other red meat.
  11. I'll bet it was Doewhacker and Steve 863....
  12. No problem, Buddy... Just trying to help...<<smile>>...
  13. Use the .223... Not overly destructive to pelts and is capable of clean kills with body shots out to 400 yards or so. The 22-250 is an excellent round also, but is more destructive to pelts. Head shots ?? Good luck unless the coyote is in a trap. I have had darn few opportunities at stationary coyotes, and head shots are not very often an option. Rimfires like the .22 mag are effective at close range ( 150 yards or less) but often require tracking and why limit yourself in range.. The .222 Rem is a sweet chambering ( I owned one for 50 years) but is no better than a .223 and the .223 is much more available in rifle choice and ammo. I'm wondering how many coyotes the HEAD SHOT advocates have actually killed... I have only killed a half dozen of them, but most of them were moving and would have been tough to execute a head shot on.. One exception was a big Canadian dog that responded to my turkey call and got a face full of copper plated # 6 shot at about 15 yards for his effort.
  14. I just finished planting 2 1/4 acres Sunday.. I broadcast oats and clover, dragged over with the chain link fence, and we got a nice rain less than 24 hours later.. I'll let y'all know in a couple of weeks how it's turning out..< Says Pygmy optimistically>....
  15. Geno....Not to change the subject, but I felt that you should know.. There ARE no deer or turkeys in Steuben County....<<sigh>>..... Lots of COUGARS, though...Ya just have to scout the right bars to find out where they hang out.
  16. Hehehehehehe...That's FUNNY right there, Girlfriend.......Hehehe...
  17. Glad to have you up here, Geno... I'll be on the alert for some guy who TALKS funny.. I've lived in Steuben County my entire eleventy-seven years... As a matter of fact, I'm fishing on Keuka Lake tomorrow morning.
  18. I buy tickets for several raffles a year, but I seldom go to them anymore...I don't care for the crowds and standing in line...I generally give my meal ticket to someone who will use it... I have managed to win 3 guns over the years ...Two of them were NE Arms single shots, a .410 and a 12 gauge.. The third was a Ruger M77 MKII in .270 Win. I never fired it..Sold it NIB and used the money to buy a Rem XP-100 in .260 Rem, which I have since sold to a certain ex-cigar smoking member of this forum...<<wink>>...
  19. What G-Man said..... The main ADVANTAGE of a cantilever scope mount is the fact that the scope/sight is firmly attached to the barrel and much less likely to move. With the scope mounted on the reciever ON AN INTERCHANGEABLE BARREL SHOTGUN , every time you take the barrel on or off, there is a chance of some misalignment.. I used a Rem 1100 for years with a reciever mounted scope, and eventually replaced it with a cantilever mounted scope.. I often had to adjust the reciever mounted setup, but in 20+ years the cantilever scope/barrel has retained it's zero despite the barrel being taken on/off numerous times.
  20. As Dinsdale says, avoid sabot slugs... Regular foster slugs or Brennekes will be fine... Does your M66 have rifle sights ? If so it is cylinder bore ( no choke). Otherwise the choke should be stamped on the left side of the barrel near the reciever. Foster slugs or brennekes can be used with a full choke barrel with no issues...
  21. For an archer who is a GOOD shot, on the ground, on an elk...Perhaps.. Low percentage shot for an archer of average abilities shooting at a deer from a treestand.. Of course, I know that every body that posts on this forum other than me is an EXCELLENT shot with archery gear...<<smile>>..
  22. Heck YES, it works.... I have friends who are very successful and use rattling/grunting as a primary hunting method..Personally, I have had better luck just tickling the antlers rather than doing an aggressive sequence, but one of my buddies rattles in bucks every season with aggressive rattling.. I have GRUNTED more bucks in than I have rattled, however.. One of my buddies who has killed several BIG bucks with his bow won't even hunt unless conditions are favorable for rattling/grunting.
  23. No offense to your friend, but that test does not hold water for several different technical reasons... Reason number one is that generally when a barrel is "shot out" it means that it is suffering from throat erosion, which occurs near the chamber, rather than at the muzzle. Seating depth and differing bullet ogives are a couple more reasons that it would be invalid. The best test to see if your rifle has accuracy problems is to shoot some groups with it. Many supposedly "shot out" barrels only need a thorough cleaning to restore thier accuracy.
  24. Yup, Biz is correct...As far as I know, all currently manufactured .22 centerfires use .224" bullets.. That would be .222, .222 mag, .223/5.56 MM, 22/250, .220 swift, .224 Weatherby and others.. Years ago, 22 Hornets were bored a little smaller, I believe it was .223" if my moldy old memory is correct, and you could buy .223" bullets specifically for the Hornet.. However I believe that modern day hornets are bored .224".. I'm not sure if a thousandth of an inch would make much difference, anyway.
  25. That looks like Doewhacker and Steve 863 right after they left the Donut Factory on thier way to the Feeding Frenzy at the annual Marshmallow Cream Corn Willie Fritter Eating Contest that is held every summer in Blubberbutt, NY....
