  1. I remember back when I could go all day in the uplands, but that was back when Moby Dick was a minnow.. I had a 28 gauge double back then to, but eventually replaced it with a 20 gauge double that was just as light and handy and much cheaper to shoot. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the 28, though..It was my first double gun, and I killed a lot of game with it, up to and including ringnecks..I'd like to have a buck for every CROW I killed with that little gun, using #9 skeet loads , along with squirrels, rabbits, grouse, woodcock and pheasants.
  2. Unless they are super rare, they are not worth a whole lot...Assuming the slugs are boxes of five, they might fetch 10 bucks or so at a gun show. The boxes themselves, if in good shape, are often worth more than the ammo..
  3. It was introduced in 1875, and chambered in a number of single shot rifles. Marlin chambered thier M1893 lever action for it, and it was one of the first cartridges that the Winchester 94 was offered in.
  4. Me too, Growie...I saw the title and had to check to make sure my fly was zipped up...<<blush>>...
  5. Good luck...Travel light and shoot FAST...<<grin>>...
  6. For years, I have accumulated old shotshells and metallic cartridges. I use the term ACCUMULATE rather than COLLECT, because there is no real goal or organization to my collection. When I run across an old , unique, or unusual shell or cartridge, I just set it up on one of my "memory shelves" a set of bookshelves in my gun room that holds all kinds of memorabilia from photos and turkey calls to expanded bullets that I have recovered from some of the critters I have killed over the years. One of my hunting/fishing buddies is moving south ( I'll miss him dearly) and he was packing up some of his stuff and he found an old .38-55 cartridge. He knew about my "accumulation" and gave it to me. It is still possible to purchase .38-55 factory loads, but this one is definitely old...I didn't have one. I added it to my shelf next to the .303 Savage rounds that I got from josephmrtn last weekend..
  7. Joe... The Mermaid and I offer our heartfelt condolences to you and your family..
  8. Good luck, Rev.. Unlike ducks, geese often do not leave the roost early...They often loaf around and take thier time before flying off to feed....Good luck...
  9. I grew up listening to classic Rock/Roll in the 50s, 60s and early 70s... I also enjoy the folk music that was big back in the early 60s, with groups like The Kingston Trio, Chad Mitchell trio, and many others. Over the last 20 years I've come to enjoy most everything country, from the forties right up to the present. I've requested that Willie Nelson's rendition of " Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" be played at my funeral. If rap or hip hop comes on, I turn it off QUICK and tune in to some country or rock n roll oldies...
  10. It doesn't take a genius to realize that Joe Biden is a MORON.... Any time lethal force is appropriate, you'd better be aiming center mass on the bad guys, or it may be YOUR obituary that your friends are reading in the paper...
  11. In 1969, I went bowling with 3 women.... We bowled 3 games... All 3 women beat me all 3 games... That's when I decided to spend more time doing things that , while I might not be GOOD at, at least I did not SUCK at...Like shooting skeet..
  12. I found what I was looking for, with the able assistance of lawdwaz.. S&W M 637 Airweight, excellent condition, used very little.. Thanks to all for your input.
  13. It sure will work..I've done it.. I've heard 'em gobble at most any loud noise, including gunshots. However, running around the woods blasting on an airhorn just seems LESS than asthetically pleasing. <<grin>>...
  14. I prefer to let the bird gobble on his own, but I always carry a crow call, for those times when I want find out where a gobbler is, but don't necessarily want him coming in to my present location. I have found that gobblers tend to respond to owling best in areas where barred owls are plentiful.. Around my home area, barred owls are present, but not real plentiful. Birds sometimes gobble at owling here, but a loud crow call works better. Up where I hunt in Ontario, barred owls are scarce and a crow call works MUCH better than an owl call.. When I hunted in the mountains of western Virginia, owls were very plentiful and gobblers responded well to owling, even in the middle of the day. Crows were scarce, and they did not gobble much at a crow call.
  15. Thanks for the input, Early... I've been finding Charter Arms and Taurus, but I'd really rather go with the Smith or Colt..Ruger is a good gun ,but heavier than I would prefer.
  16. Lawdwaz...That looks like a Dick Kirby Grand Slam, which was a fine vest and one of the first ones on the market..I WORE OUT one of those and replace it a few years back with One From Turkeylick Creek, which I don't like nearly as well as the Grand Slam I started out using a box, a Lynch World Champion double sided box.. I was slow learner with the diaphragm call, but eventually got pretty good with one and over a period of 25 years or so, I used it a lot. I probably killed as many birds with the mouthcall as I did with my box. My favorite calls were the Quaker Boy Old Boss Hen and the Knight and Hale Setback. I never got very good with a slate..I acrry one in my vest, but I only use it to cluck and purr. Over the last few years, I have regressed back to the box and don't use the mouth call as much.. I have 14 box calls, but my current favorite is a custom box made by Bob Harwell from South Carolina.. It is a double sided Neil Cost type box..The lid and bottom are black walnut and the sides are butternut. It is the most authentic sounding box I have ever used. For many years my favorite box was a Lynch 101 Foolproof single sided box that I bought for $17 back in the 1970s. I have never heard a Lynch Foolproof that did not sound good enough to fool a turkey.
  17. I'm in the market for a small frame .38 snub as a carry gun. I would prefer a S&W J frame, but would consider other light, quality firearms such as a Colt Cobra or Detective Special. I live in southern Steuben County but would consider driving a reasonable distance for a FTF sale.
  18. Summer sausage and pepperoni are relatively non perishable, Culver.. They'd probably hold up well for a couple of days in the mail...<<shameless HINT>>.....
  19. Belo's just miffed cuz they didn't OFFER him a toke ....<<wink>>.... Don't Bogart that JOINT, mah FREIND...Pass it over to MEEEEE !!!
  20. Let us know when it's ready and we'll be up for a taste test.. I'll bring beer ! I love good summer sausage..I'd like to try yours.
  21. Why limit it to PENS ?? It should be location specific... If the guy opens up in a gay bar, pummel him with your PURSE !! If he's in a butcher shop, RAP with with a RUMP ROAST !! If he's at the fish market, SLAM him with a SALMON !! If he's in a deli, KNOCK him out with a KNOCKWURST !! If he's in a nudist colony, WHACK him with your WEENIE !! The possibilities are endless...Who NEEDS guns ??
  22. Thanks , Partner...That was my goal... I think it's time for my nap...
  23. Geeze, Doc...Don't hold back...Tell us how you REALLY feel....hehehe..
  24. Good deal Al, glad you sold it..I didn't figure it would hang around too long for that price. I was TEMPTED, but I need another rifle like I need another hole in my head. AND of course, after buying the rifle, I would have had to buy DIES, COMPONENTS, yada yada..
