21 mice, eh ? ...Good score...Brings back memories.. A few years ago I rented an older mobile home, which was set right in the woods.. It was loaded with mice, so I bought half a dozen mousetraps and set out a trapline. I kept a talley of all the mice I caught on a piece of paper on my refrigerator door.. When I moved out of the trailer about a year later, I had recorded 44 mice on my score sheet.

Good news, covert, I just cleaned my bluebird boxes out today..That's when I saw 8 or 10 robins bob-bob-bobbin' around in my hayfield.. For the first time EVER since I have had bluebird boxes, I did not find a single mouse...Out of appx. two dozen birdhouses, all but 2 or 3 had nests from last season...

I have had grackles at my feeders for several days.. Today, I saw a woodchuck, two turkey buzzards and about a dozen robins...

From thier dens... A friend of mine who is part of the "Old Farts Coffee Club" that I attend most mornings at the local Acorn mart, had his birdfeeders destroyed last night. That's the first bear damage I have heard of this year, although I did see a fresh track in the snow when I was ice fishing about a month ago.

"some deer i SEEN on my lunch break" ? !!! Sorry Red, ol' buddy...I'm going to have to report you to the GRAMMAR police. YO ! EARLY ! Are you paying ATTENTION here, Hoss ? We have another violator.

Yeah, growie, I experience that every year..I have mice running up my arms, jumping out of the boxes on my shoulder, head, etc. Fortunately I don't have a RODENT phobia. A friend of mine does...He's a big, macho, kick-a** type guy, too..We sat together in an enclosed tower stand one time and a deer mouse started scampering around inside the blind.. He jumped up and screamed like a girl !! I thought the big galloot was going to bail out of the tower blind before I managed to catch the mouse and toss him out...hehehehehe...

I haven't found a flying squirrel yet, but one time I decided to clean some out in the fall and found a yellow jacket's nest in one..Since then I wait until COLD weather.. Actually I have found that it's a waste of time to clean them out in early winter..The mice just move right back in and you have to clean them out in the early spring again anyway..

It's time to clean out the bluebird houses..Actually, I intended to do it last month, but it slipped my mind..( Happens a LOT lately, GRIN)... It's going to be nice this weekend..I have between 25 and 30 houses that I intend to clean out and evict the white-footed mice that have no doubt taken up residence there..

I had my first grackles at the feeder this morning...They are the first spring birds I have seen this year.. Robins are due anytime..I have often seen them the first week of March, but none so far this year.

Good luck in your new position... Nice country up there, if one likes to hunt and fish..Ask josephmrtn..<<smile>>.. I get up there often because my daughter and her family live near Potsdam.

Hey..That's what BUBBA did for a living.. Are you taking Bubba's job, NYHB ?? I heard an uncomfirmed rumor that ol' Bubba had just accepted a position as "Head Man" in a circumcism clinic in Bangkok, Thailand..

Growie...I know that Hemlock is one of the lakes you are talking about.. What is the other one ..?..Canadice ? I very familiar with the central Finger Lakes, ( Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga) but I have not spent much time on the western ones...

Never tried them..I don't know anyone who has, but I remember reading years ago that they are edible.. Give 'em a try, G-man, and let us know.. Meanwhile, a friend of mine just returned from NC yesterday and dropped me off a peck of fresh oysters..I KNOW those puppies are edible..YUM !!..

Geeze, Growie... When I saw the title of the thread, I thought perhaps you were announcing a BLESSED EVENT... It's been a long, cold winter, ya know...<<wink>>....

I just read this on another forum and liked it so well that I decided to plagiarize it here. " The real difference between intelligence and stupidity is that intelligence has limits."

I have always been uneasy about heights, but in my younger years I spent lots of hours high up on hangons and climbers.. No more...I'm not as strong, steady or co-ordinated as I used to be.. All I do now is sturdy ladder stands, and I don't even feel secure in them until I am securely strapped in...

Cockers quit hunting ? Perhaps the majority of them, that were bred for show and became nasty, snippy little dogs.. Fortunately, however, a few wise souls continue to breed cockers for field and good temerament.. I hunted over a couple of different cockers 50 years ago, and they were excellent all around upland dogs.. I ran springers for years...Love them... I like the 16 gauge also..I have had several, but currently own just one, a Model 12 Winchester. Ammo has never been a problem..I look for the Remington or Winchester promotional loads, like the one ounce "game loads". They often are on sale at Dick's or Gander for 6 or 7 bucks a box. When I find them I buy several boxes. I find the 1 oz. load of #6 or 7 1/2 shot perfect for upland game in the 16 gauge.. Glad to hear that you and your Dad and your pup had a good weekend.

Would you buy a used "Kahr" from this man ?? Sorry, Larry...The DEVIL made me do it.....Hehehehehe...
