My venison project for this week....

Geeze, Growie, do I have time to get to your place for lunch ? That would go well with a steaming cup of chipmunk stew..<<grin>>.... -
100 or 200 FPS at the muzzle isn't going to make much difference in energy or penetration at hunting ranges.. The density and uniformity of the pattern is what counts and the only way to learn that is to pattern the load. To answer, your question I have used The Winchester loads and they perform well in my guns as do the Federal turkey loads...I patterned some Rem Nitro mags years ago and they did not pattern as well as the Wins or Feds IN MY GUN, so I have stuck with what works..

Two lawyers are shipwrecked on an uninhabited tropical island for years.... One day they are walking down the beach and see a beautiful young woman sleeping naked on the beach, a victim of a recent shipwreck They stand gazing upon her for a moment, and finally one lawyer asks the other.. " Well...Should we screw her ? " The other lawyer answers .. "Out of WHAT ?"....

I need to learn how to share pictures from my digitalcam to here online... It really is a beautifully colored brown, and the kype is still distinct.. Perhaps some of my online buddies , like Josephmrtn. can help educate me... I killed the fish, because he had swallowed he bait and was bleeding profusely from his gills.. One of the negative sides of using bait.. He won't go to waste, because The Mermaid and I love to eat fish....

I had a wonderful morning on 2 different streams... Landed 15 browns, none under 12 "... Plenty of nice stream bred browns , mostly 14-16 "... I caught 3 that went 18", plus a gorgeous hook jawed male that measuered 20 3/4 "... Only saw 2 other fisherman on the 2 creeks that I fished.. Life is GOOD....<<sigh>>... P.S... I used up all the FREE crawlers that I gathered. Gotta get some more...LOL..

Happy 39th,Growie...!!..

Good luck !! The tribs that I am fishing aren't stocked , but the main river is, and holdover stockies run up them from the river, along with stream bred fish.. The browns are wild, fat and beautiful, and now and then a nice native brookie shows up.. What I like best is the fact that most of the fishermen prefer to fish the stocked waters, So I see few other anglers...After opening day, I seldom see another fishermen...

I had already bought some crawlers from Wallyworld to use opening day of trout season, because it has been too durn cold to collect my own.. Well, tonite's rain and above freezing temps had them out slithering around, so I went out and picked up about 3 dozen to use tomorrow..It just seems PROPER to collect one's own bait, if one is able...They are generally an ideal size for trout this time of year, too...Big enough to tempt a big old snaggletoothed brown trout, but not TOO big.. I'll put the STORE BOUGHT worms in my beer/bait fridge in the garage, and use them another time..

gunsmith that can/will thread a barrel for chokes?
Pygmy replied to TeeBugg's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I like short barreled turkey guns. My 11-87 has a 21" Remchoke barrel, and it is very handy in the turkey woods, albeit a little short and whippy for waterfowl. I have a 28" choke tube barrel that I generally use when hunting ducks or geese with that gun. HOWEVER, all that aside, there have been a few times that I have taken the 21 " barrel waterfowling,( too lazy to switch barrels, I guess) and I have done some fancy ( or lucky) shooting with it, if you will indulge an old fart's stories.... My one and only TRIPLE on ducks...3 mallards, two drakes and a suzie, came past from my right, sweeping over a beaver pond. I folded a drake with the first shot, at which time the other drake reversed directions and I dumped him with the second shot going back the opposite direction, then swung BACK to my left again and killed the hen just as she cleared the dam..All 3 ducks were stone dead on the water, and it took MUCH less time than it took me to type this. Antoher time I was hunting geese, and a flock came over. I was shooting the 21" barrel with an IC tube and T shot. I dropped a goose with my first shot, hurried the second shot and missed, then killed another goose with the third shot. There were still birds overhead, so I threw a shell in the open breech, slammed it shut and killed a third goose and then threw another shell in the breech and killed a fourth...Five quick shots..Four dead geese. Despite these admittedly lucky perfomances, I still prefer the feel and smooth swing of a 26 or 28 inch barrel for waterfowling or other similar types of wingshooting. -
Happy Birthday, Biz.. Too bad the trout weren't biting at Kensico.. Lakers have been ON FIRE here on Keuka...My buddies having been catching 20-40 lakers per day vertical jigging and the trollers are killing them, too.. I'm sure the bait fishermen are doing well also, but why bother messing with bait when you can catch numbers of fish like that on artificials..

Easter, eh ? That explains that big pink rabbit I shot in my backyard early this morning...

gunsmith that can/will thread a barrel for chokes?
Pygmy replied to TeeBugg's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Geeze, Teebug.. I'm guessing that it would be cheaper to buy a used barrel.. I assume you want a tighter choke for your turkey gun..If you shop around and maybe advertise in the classifieds, you should be able to either find a fixed full choke barrel or one that is threaded for tubes for less $$$ than getting one threaded by a 'smith. I've been in gunshops that had dozens of used extra barrels..Seems like a used barrel for a 12 gauge 870 would be a fairly common item. -
So my Italian inlaws asked me to cook a lamb on a spit for Easter ...
Pygmy replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
I agree...How big is the lamb ? What are you basting it with ? What degree of doneness you you plan on cooking to...? What wine do you prefer ? I'm assuming a dry red for lamb, perhaps a nice Cabernet or maybe a merlot.... What time should I show up for dinner ? -

While you were fretting about grammar and vocabulary, the DOG stole your LAMB off the spit..<<grin>>... -
Ham.... I love ham... It is also great for leftovers, i. e. ham sandwiches, scalloped potatos and ham, bean soup with the bone, etc. etc.. However, I am envious of one of my good buddies, whose sister is doing a LEG OF LAMB for Easter Dinner... Now THAT is livin' LARGE....<<DROOL>>...

WHEW !!.... I just checked my ALTERNATIVE component storage and found another 1000 WLR primers... I remember now...Back a couple of years ago primers were hard to come by, supposedly because the boys were using up so much ordinance in the Middle East.. SO when they became avaiable I picked up another 1000, even though I still had a few hundred left...At the rate I reload , that should last me until I am old and gray.. WAIT a minute.....I'm ALREADY old and gray... I guess I'm in pretty good shape then, primer-wise...
-
Better YET, take Joe Biden's advice and step out on your balcony ( everyone has one of those) with your double barrel shotgun and unload both barrels in the air.. THAT will scare those rascals away..!!...
-
CRAP !! I'm down to a few hundred primers.. Wish I had known enough to buy another 1000 when they were available.. I'll have to leave a few empty casings under my pillow.. Maybe the PRIMER FAIRY will leave me a couple hundred WLRs...
-
I see them in May while gobbler hunting..
-
I suppose they would have self defense value.. Over the last century many very effective military and police weapons ( like the German MP 38/40, the British Sten, and many, many others, including dozens of handgun models like the Luger and the browning Hi-Power) have accounted for untold 1000s of casualties using ammo similar to that..
