  1. Uncle Nicky ain't kiddin' when he says antelope are everywhere out there... They outnumber people in Wyoming, and the area around Casper has most of anywhere in the state.. I have a story of a real nice hunt I did a couple years ago with my fiance and 3 other couples, but I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll post it another time ..I'll just say that the four of us guys all got nice trophy pronghorns and the girls had a good time too. I just think that Uncle Nicky's offer is a real good opportunity for someone to "get thier feet wet" in an out of state hunt for a reasonable price. The odds of being succesful on a Wyoming pronghorn hunt are VERY high. Nothing ( fair chase) is guaranteed, of course..
  2. Looks like the coyote turds I have seen... Never spent much time studying the size of coyote turdcutters, but I would guess that those droppings came from an adult coyote.
  3. There aren't many things you can do with your clothes on that are much more fun than a pronghorn hunt. The meat is also excellent, as long as you are very anal about meat care.. Those little critters need to be skinned immediately , quartered and put on ice within an hour of killing them..It's really not that hard to do if you are prepared for it. Gut them and drive them around for a couple of hours in the bed of the pickup, and they will taste strong.
  4. Sully...I see you are a "Godfather" fan... That is also one of my favorite quotes from the film... ... Clemenza was my favorite character...
  5. Nope..The .35 Rem is a rimless cartridge, developed in the early 1900's along with the .25 rem, .30 Rem and .32 Rem, to function well in Remington's current ( for the time) semi auto and pump guns and compete with Winchester's very successful .25-35, 30-30 and .32 Winchester special, which were HUGELY popular at the time in Winchester's famous M94 lever action.
  6. Sorry Steve..You mentioned on a previous post that the .35 Rem was introduced as an Israeli military cartridge. I don't know where you heard that, but it is just not true. The .35 Rem was introduced by Remington in 1906 and was first chambered in the Remington Model 8 autoloader in 1908. Israel never existed as a nation until 1948...
  7. Good luck on the piggies. I'm headed down to SE Georgia Feb 17th. I hunt on a friend's deer lease. The hunting is free except for expenses getting there and back. The hunt is no slam dunk, since the hogs are wild and free ranging. No guarantee of kills and the hunting is quite challenging. We generally kill 2 or 3 hogs between 3 or 4 hunters, but it is nice country, the weather is generally pleasant and it is a nice getaway. My buddies and I plan to hunt three days over president's Day weekend. One of the highlights of the trip is to stop at one of those out of the way small town diners where there are about 3 or 4 big, fat black women working in the kitchen. Those are the places where you can get REAL southern fried chicken and other local delicacies, generally fried in genuine LARD....YUM..!.. I can feel my arteries clogging just THINKING about it..
  8. DAY-um Grizz... That's a fine group ! She's a shooter for sure..
  9. Very interesting.... I personally don't care for the modernistic style... I'm kind of a walnut and blued steel old fart...BUT to each his own. Some of us like blondes, some of us like redheads, and some of us don't care WHAT she looks like as long as she gets the job done.. ...
  10. Well, I'll be dipped in.....What chamberings are they offering..?..
  11. Yeah, Doc... I have not had the priveledge to be present when one was released, but according to my buddies it can be quite a rodeo.. Two tools are very useful..A snarestick and a piece of 3x3 plywood with a v-notch cut on the bottom.. The use of the snarestick is obvious.. With the plywood, you place it between yourself and the cat with the trapped paw of the critter on one side of the shield and the body on the other, to keep you separated from the animal while you release the trap.
  12. I see the DEC is proposing opening the season for them here in certain areas of southwestern NY. They were rare when I was kid, but now they are fairly common. I have seen half a dozen of them in the last couple of years and they have have become a common catch for local trappers...A couple of my local trapping buddies have been catching ( and releasing) 2 or 3 per season in thier fox and coyote sets.
  13. Rob..They don't do a lot of these, so you may have to settle for what's available, and you may have to drive a bit...I took mine about 3 weeks ago and had to drive about 50 miles(one way) to take it. As far as I know, the DEC site is the best source of info. Good luck..
  14. I think that the answer to the OP is......YES... That is a moose rub.
  15. GEEZE, Growie...You don't have to YELL at me.... ... Now you've hurt my FEELINGS again... ...
  16. You've got some pretty brazen poachers there, to shoot a deer right in your front lawn. You don't live anywhere near Growalot, do you ?
  17. I was married at a fairly tender age (21) and my wife was a decent cook, but she had no experience cooking wild game and fish, and she really didn't LIKE to cook.. It was just another household chore to her. So I began to cook the fish and game and gradually took over nearly all the cooking duties..I enjoy doing it. To me it is very relaxing to spend time in the kitchen, sipping on a beer and conjuring up gastronomical delights. My Mom was a wonderful cook, and I learned a lot from her. I have since divorced the wife. My fiance', The Mermaid, is a good cook, but she prefers the baking and desserts. I am a main course guy, so we make a good team.

    Movie's

I agree that there are too many good ones...If I thought about it, I may be able to think of a top TWENTY.. A few that would be among my top twenty... Butch Cassidy and The Sundance kid... Bridge on the River Kwai.. The Searchers... Jerimiah Johnson... Twelve Angry Men... Saving Private Ryan... They go on and on...
  19. Baked walleye filets parmesan... Home fries made from leftover salt potatos. They make the BEST homefries. Steamed green beans. That was LAST night. Today I'm going to make some mixed venison meatballs, half moose burger and half deer burger. I cheat on my sauce..I use a jar of prepared sauce as a base and then doctor it with more garlic and herbs... I'll serve it over angel hair pasta.
  20. What Lawdwaz said..... Barnes TSX are scary accurate in my rifles and will hold together. They seem to kill just as quickly as lighter constructed bullets( I have used Nosler Ballistic tips on a lot of game). The Sierra gameking, while very accurate is noted to be on the "soft" side, as are the Speer Hot core. I haven't had any experience with the Speer Deep Curl.
  21. If his gun is a lever action Marlin it is chambered for .35 Remington, and it is not the same as the .35 Whelen. The .35 Rem casing is about the same length as a .30-30. The .35 Whelen is a 30-06 case necked up to .35 caliber, a much longer and more powerful cartridge . The only similarity between the two is that they both use .358" diameter bullets. A .35 Whelen round would never fit in a .35 Rem chamber, but a .35 Rem, being a shorter cartridge, might fit in a .35 Whelen. If it did and someone fired it, the case would probably rupture with possible damage to the gun and the shooter. I don't think Marlin has ever produced a rifle chambered in .35 Whelen.
  22. Actually, bullet construction is much more important than increasing bullet weight by 20 grains. If you want to make sure your bullet stays together, go with a Nosler partition, Barnes TSX, or other premium bullet that is designed NOT to go to peices. A 130 in a premium will hang together better than a 150 in a standard cup and core or a bullet that is DESGNED to expand quickly, like a ballistic tip.
  23. Yes, indeed....I gave him the name after hearing the song by " Da Yoopers" entitled " Happy Birthday Fungus Face".. They are the same guys that sang " Second Week at Deer Camp" and some other classics.. Fungus Face was the person who gave me the title " Pygmy". I have shared hunting camps with him from PA to the Arctic Circle..You could never find a better hunting partner. Don't tell the ugly bastard that I SAID that, though...
  24. Me neither, Joe...I always got the snot kicked out of me in the first 30 seconds or so.. That's when I decided to be a LOVER, not a Warrior... ...
