As I understand it, he sat in the bathtub, put the barrels of his favorite bird gun in his mouth, and pulled both triggers.... YUP...Coulda been a little messy....

" Snatchchat"..??....Hmmmm..Now you have my interest....

I was staying at a humble little cottage on a small, local lake... I had been catching crappies, slab sided, calico colored fish that looked almost too pretty to eat... The girl from the cottage next door came out on the dock to ask if I was having any luck....Her young, pubescent nipples showed clearly through her supple cotton blouse... She told me that she had just heard on the radio that Ernest Hemingway had died... I tried to reply, but my voice changed and caught in my throat.... I finally managed to say, " Maria, I am very sad to hear that...I hope he went out well"....

I can still remember hearing that EH had committed suicide in 1961..I was only eleven, but I had already read " The Old Man and the Sea" and was a fan....I remember being both shocked and sad...

P.S. I learned about M1 THUMB in basic training...Hehehe... When I attended Navy Boot Camp in 1970, WWII small arms were still standard issue...I trained on the M1, BAR and Thompson SMG.. Never even saw an M 14 or an M16... The destroyer I served on from 1971-1973 had the following firearms in its small arms locker,,,,Perhaps a dozen M1s, 3 or 4 BARs, half a dozen Thompsons,,half a dozen parkerized Win M 12 trench guns complete with ventilated hangguards and bayonet lugs, perhaps a dozen M1911 45s, one air cooled m1919 Browning .30 cal. and ONE M1 carbine.... I guess the carbine was there for whatever officer that was to lead a boarding party...Hehehe...

I have an Enfield #4 Long Branch circa 1944...Good shooter....I'd take it up in my tower blind and feel confident on shots at deer out to 100 yards or so, but it is currently on display at a local legion post...

It is not a C or D.... I'll get the details and let you know...At one time he had access in Canada to some M1 Ds ( along with others) at a good cost and did a brisk business selling them to Americans until US import regs shut him down...I do know that he has only the Winchester left and whatever mounting system he has does not alter the rifle in any way...

Never got into fantasy too much, with the exception of the CONAN books and The Tolkien Trilogy.. I LOVED Ian Fleming's James Bond novels....Hate what Hollywood has done to them...They were truly excellent espionage tales and the first couple movies were pretty good, but when they started embellishing them with a bunch of high tech stuff I lost interest.. Hemmingway is awesome....My daughter gave me a first edition of " For Whom the Bell Tolls", which is my all time favorite novel...I re-read it very couple of years... That reminds me...I am due to read it again...

The partitions are never a bad choice for any game.. I have a recovered bullet that penetrated about 2 feet of Alaskan bull moose...It was a 160 grain fired from my .280 Rem and it still weighs 105 grains.....

Viral video of a-holes torturing buck in Pennsylvania

The Inuits get their veggies in wintertime by eating the stomach contents of the animals they kill... I have seen them do it...In fact, I have a video ( taken by my hunting partner) of my Inuit guide taking a slice of raw liver, dipping it into the stomach contents of a caribou I shot, and eating it...He went back for seconds and then licked his fingers... Of course, they also get canned veggies that are delivered on the barge that comes into Gjoa Haven one time per summer... I almost said they BUY them, but as natives they don't buy much...The government ( meaning people who actually work for a living) provides them with everything they need... -
It was a nice day, Rob...I drove past Goodhue about 2:00 PM and saw some dude with a death wish out in the middle ( 20 FOW) fishing...Lots of darks spot and thawing spots showing...

As long as it has stayed frozen, it will never be unsafe to eat....However, after a year or so in the freezer, the flavor may begin to degrade, depending on how it is packaged...This is acellerated if the meat is mixed with pork, because pork fat degrades faster than other fats.. In other words, if it has been in the freezer a long time, it might taste like s**t, but it won't poison you if you eat it....

I have used my Garand M1 ( Springfield 1943 receiver) a few times preseason for several years...I reload 150 grain spitzer soft points ( currently Sierra Game Kings) with H4895, to duplicate ( or nearly duplicate) the load that the M1 was designed for.. I use the issue sights...I carried my 1938 Oberndorf K98K in Pa a few times years ago, but my with my old eyes the Mauser type open sights don't work well any more...No problem with the aperture sights on the M1...Yet... I do most of my hunting out of an enclosed tower blind, so I often have the Garand and one of my scoped rifles with me, with plans to use the M1 for closer shots and the scoped rifle for shots from 100-300 yards..Most of my shots from that blind are 150-200 yards, and so far I have only taken shot ( and killed one deer) with the M1... One of my hunting buddies intends to scope his M1 to use from my tower next season..I have not seen his setup yet, but I know it is one that does not require alteration of the rifle, which is good, because it is a beautiful Winchester, with all Winchester parts... Another buddy has several K 31s and he loves them...He is an excellent marksman and can consistently ring a 20 inch steel plate at 300 yards offhand with his K 31s..

A big CONGRATS on your cat, My Friend !!! According to an article in the NYS Conservationist, the average adult female weighs around 14 pounds, so that is a good sized cat... I lung shot mine with a .22 CB short from my S&W K-22...I was surprised how quickly it expired...Not much reaction to the shot at all, just kind of stiffened up and died..It didn't take more than 10 seconds...When I skinned her, there was no exit wound, and the entry wound was barely visible..

Nice rifle, Don....Congrats on your new baby... Reminds me of a minty one ( .308 BLR straight grip) that I could have bought for $300 a few years ago.... WELLLL...It was QUITE a few years ago....Another opportunity squandered...<<sigh>>…..

The Swiss never fought, although they would have done well if they did, ...The Finns did great in the Winter War, often with arms and ammo they captured from the Russians, whom they slaughtered by the tens of thousands..... I do not have any specific Finn rifles, but I do have a nice 1917 MN that I believe was captured and rearsenaled by the Finns...Very good condition and very accurate... I never could get too excited about the Italian or French Arms, although many were in very good shape...Never fired, only dropped once...

So sorry Eddie...It is tough to lose a good buddy....

I share your interest in WWII history and WWII small arms....I have a very modest collection of WWII battle rifles...At one point it was my intention to collect the primary battle rifles of all of the major antagonists, but that fizzled....Several of my rifles are on display at local American Legion posts, but I keep my Garand at home because I carry it deer hunting a few days each season.. My Dad was a WWII veteran also, on a destroyer in the Pacific and saw a lot of action, much as a gun captain on a twin 40 MM Bofors gun during air attacks and supporting shore invasions..
