  3. Any multiflora rose around ? They love the berries and they are up out of the snow....
  4. An Ithaca 37 20 with heavy loads kicks like a demon....Much worse that a gas operated 12 gauge auto..My ex-wife had a 20 gauge Deerslayer and I dreaded sighting it in with slugs from the bench...I swapped it for a Rem 1100 LT-20....MUCH less abusive... The 1100 was only about a pound heavier than the Ithaca, but the extra pound plus the gas operation made it a real pussycat to shoot... I also suspect that the young lady might need some coaching on shooting form, especially proper gun mounting...If she has the butt too far out on her shoulder or too close to her collarbone, rather than in the "pocket" in between, even a light kicking gun is going to bruise her..
  5. Yeah we don't BOUNCE nearly as well as we used to... How are you feeling today ??...
  6. OUCH !! Hope you are OK, Jerry....
  7. I am a big fan of the 16 gauge for upland game and have owned several....The first few seasons I hunted ducks I used a Rem 11-48 in 16 gauge, and it worked fine..But that was with lead shot... Now that we are limited to using non-toxic shot, you are barking up the wrong tree with the 16 for waterfowl...…. Load selection is very limited for the 16...Much more than for the 20 gauge, which is also a poor choice for waterfowl with non-toxic loads. The best gun for her would be a gas operated 12 gauge auto..Second best a recoil operated 12 gauge auto...Third best a 12 gauge pump ….Recoil with 2 3/4" non toxic loads will not be overwhelming, and as Culver says, when shooting at game most people don't notice recoil as much...There are many inexpensive light kicking loads available for the young lady to use for shooting clays or other target practice, and many of them are effective on small game as well...
  8. Send your wife/girlfriend over to check it out...<<smile>>...
  9. We got about a foot of wet, heavy stuff here in Dogpatch....My old Cub Cadet snowblower had a tough time with it...Stalled her out a couple of times...I'm about whipped...May ask The Mermaid to rub my back....Or something....
  10. Doesn't that HURT ??…. Especially when you rip one off …….
  11. I'd never hunt anywhere that is that difficult to spell...<<grin>>…..Good luck !
  12. I'm planning to spend tomorrow afternoon in my tower with my son in law...I figure the deer will be out tomorrow afternoon feeding ahead of tomorrow night's ice/snow.....I spent the last two days doing holiday stuff with family..Time to go hunting again'''Good luck to all..
  13. Does a duck's ass pucker in a power dive ?? Yes, I remember Big Bad John verbatim...And if I didn't I'd be reminded 2 or 3 times a week when I hear it on " Willie's Road House" on Sirius radio in my truck...Hehehe.... Actually, I am a very talented singer....Ask Robhuntandfish, Treeguy, Lawdwaz, The Real TCII, and a few others on the forum... Actually, I sing love songs very well also, but I have not yet hunted with Paula or Cynthiafu….
  14. If you have a .25-35 it is probably antique....If it shoots well with the 117 grain, I would not phuck with it...That's my advice...
  15. As a general rule a longer bullet requires a faster twist to stabilize it than a shorter bullet within a given caliber...
  16. AMAZING !! It kinda reminds me of a Saturday night here in Dogpatch in the 1960s except there weren't any jackrabbits …..
  17. Nope...The deed to the property is in her name..
  18. It just doesn't GET any better than that...Congrats, My Friend !!
  19. I love my fried fish and I love my fried chicken... The Mermaid is busting my butt because she doesn't like the smell from my frying in the kitchen...Not so much of a problem in warm weather because I can fry outside on the side burner of my grill but every time I fry inside I have to put up with her complaining about the smell...She wants me to try an air fryer...I know nothing about them...What input can you masters chefs ( like CHEF) provide me about these contraptions..??.. I know they are supposed to be healthier, but I don't really give a chit about that...I'm almost 70 years old and I intend to eat what I like and want it to taste good...
  20. Yeah, but you can't blame yourself for that, Larry...When you are exposed to such gibberish, you can always do something useful, like turning off the computer and going out and beat your head against the wall of your utility shed......Hehehe...
  21. I never blocked anyone in my life.....I have a choice whether to open a thread or not.. WELL, Stormy just opened a new thread and I am NOT going to click on it...I think I am getting stronger... Now, if I could only stop chewing, gambling and picking my nose, I would be damn near perfect...
  22. Good luck tomorrow, Swampy ...Reminds me of the old days when everybody drove deer...The three best days were opening day, the first Saturday and Turkey day.... Lots of deer seen and lots of shooting......DANG !! I am getting excited just REMEMERING it..... Those days are gone around here now...All of the properties have been sold and divided up into little parcels.... Good luck, My Friend !!
  23. Back about 25 years ago, when I was in perhaps the best physical condition of my life, I spent some time working up loads for my .338 Win mag and my buddy's .300 Win mag prior to an Alaska hunt for moose and caribou... Both guns kicked the shit out of me from the bench..I worked up accurate loads for both, but it was no fun shooting either from the bench... Recoil tolerance varies from person to person...There are so many chamberings that will kill a deer at 300 yards just as efficiently as the big boomers, I see no reason to punish myself with the heavy kickers... Shoot what you like....I'll stick to chamberings in the 7mm08-270-.280- 30-06 range.... They have been killing deer out to 400 yards for years and they are much less abusive to shoot..
  24. If you have a steady wind in your face, tomorrow might be a very good day to hunt brushlots… They won't smell you or hear you... Good luck, my friend !! I am going to be at home overindulging in food and drink...
