What's the shotgun, Jay ?? The Latest American Rifleman has a glowing review of the REM Versamax….
-
Happy Birthday Jay !!!
-
Nope..She was Miss" Carling's Black Label" of 1963.... Get off the TABLE, Mabel....The money's for the BEER......
-
My son-in-law has a pet chicken named Stella ( I named her)….But don't let THAT influence your decision.....
-
Nice pup.....I'd name her Mabel, after one of my old girlfriends...
-
If he lives with WOLC, he probably doesn't have any....
-
That wasn't a fox, it was Wolc's Yorkshire Terrier... Good thing you missed !
-
It would TAKE a while to skin out Moog......This is coming from someone who has skinned out several moose and a few elk...
-
Good luck, Guys...At least you are not freezing your butts off.... Back in pre-historic times, my buddy and I used to do well on nights like tonite, but we were killing mostly grey foxes at ranges under 50 yards...
-
Larry..Back in the early 1990's they were state of the art.... Hey wait a minute..Oh Crap...That was nearly 30 years ago... I guess I better go put my teeth in a jar and go to bed....
-
Oh CRAP !! I ate the dam pigeon.....<<sigh>>

I don't suppose you want to let me know where your PLOT is ??

I killed a bunch of deer with shotguns and slugs from 1966 until rifles became legal down here in Dogpatch.... For years I shot a Rem 1100 smoothbore 20 gauge skeet gun with a Weaver K 1.5 scope..With Brenneke slugs it would reliably keep the slugs on a 9" paper plate out about 80 yards or so..Killed a bunch of deer with it, since most of my shots were at 40 to 60 yards.. Then rifled barrels came on the scene and I got a rifled cantilever barrel for my 12 gauge Rem 1100...Shot 4 inch groups at 100 yards with Win BRI standard velocity sabots...Killed a bunch of deer with that one too, Once rifles became legal, I sold my slug guns....Still, I will say that an accurate shotgun is a very effective weapon for deer, within it's limited range..

Congrats, My Friend !! Wish I could be there !! Get yourself 4 or 5 drinks on me and charge them to Stormy...Tell him I'll pay him next time I see him...

I am planning to come as long as Nomad's generous offer to pick me up still stands.....

Number 4s kill squirrels just fine, but they drag too much hair in to the shot wound for my taste... Number 7 1/2s kill squirrels just fine, but they put too many pellets into the eating meat... I have settled on number 6 shot as the best compromise...My favorite loads are 7/8 oz in a 20 gauge, and 1 oz. in a 16 or 12 gauge...No need for high brass or magnum loads for squirrels..

Pretty grey fox.....Back in the late 70s and early 80s when I was young and dumb enough to hunt from dusk until midnight and then get up in the morning at 6:00 AM and work from 8 to 5, a buddy and I did a lot of calling with a "grey fox pup in distress" call..... Best we ever did was 8 greys in one night, but we often killed 2 or 3 in a good night's hunt... Greys were bringing about $50 each at the time...We seldom called in a red..They seemed much warier coming to the call than the greys...We used shotguns with #4 shot and shot most of our foxes at 30 or 40 yards..

Merry Christmas to all of y'all from all of us down here in Dogpatch …...
-
BTW...Great looking set, WR....I need a little coaching on the canine sets....Just seeing one of yours teaches me a lot..Thanks….
-
Yeah..The peat moss cost me a bobcat this fall...The night before I was going to pull the traps, it rained and froze and then snowed a couple of inches...I had cat going across the trap going into the cubby, and out of the cubby....Prints were in the fresh snow, but the freezing rain had iced the trap over enough so it did not fire...

Those saddles are very similar to The Anderson Tree Slings that my hunting buddy and I used back in the 1980s.. I still have mine stashed away upstairs in the garage..
-
Sounds like a sirloin tip roast...….
-
Three, I think....8X, 8T and whatever unit I hunted in with Moog last year.....
-
My old "Flexible Flyer" used to be an outstanding piece of equipment too, Larry...That is until it became TOO flexible...<<SIGH>>…..

Bummer, but you can take comfort in the act that it was a clean miss...It could have as easily have resulted in a bad hit and a lost deer...
