  1. Hey Bill what,s the temps. at the beach today , has to be warmer then here at -8 deg. I just might fire up the crock pot again today. I hope the weather report is wrong for the great lakes area , I heard they might get another 1' to 2' of snow.
  2. Not as quiet as fleece and 100% wool , but quieter then cotton in these temps.
  3. Have no idea Lawdwaz the head space is set up when the rifle is built or a new bbl. is set up on the rifle. Sounds as if some people just like to BS.
  4. On the website ( left side ) click on garment fabrics, scroll down to woolfskin XT.
  5. http://www.graywolfwoolens.com/store/pages.php?pageid=37. I have been using these for years with the wind shear lining , no problems. Not chep but they will make a set with many options .
  6. Having it right now, home made venison stew, mm, yummy.Had it maroniating all morning and in the crock pot since noon. From farm country deer, not the typical woods deer.
  7. It is what is underneath the outer layer that counts as open weave base layer then a second layer to pull moisture from that. I am not a fan of fleece but I do have game hide also with out any problems. Most of the outer layers I have is of 100% wool material.
  8. If I were still working ( retired 10 years ) I would work overtime and use that money to buy the firewood. And yes 10 + cords is a lot of work .The price of fuel oil and prophane was high enough up until now I paid for my saws, fuel and repairs on them with the money I saved..
  9. Put up a trail cam where you just cut the trees and see if you have any visitors. Grow is right about the brush piles , I have them all over the property, Birds like them also.
  10. Outdoor boiler here also, use about the same amount of wood, same size house, basement, garage / shop and hot water too.Just filled up the 275 tank just in case. Sorry I did not put a wood burning stove in the basement for a back up.
  11. Not to change the subject but at my ripe age of 74 I guess I am reverting back to my youth, Threw the years I have had Many rifles in Many calibers, Biggest Magnium and Smallest custom Bench Rest calibers as .20 BR. I have recently shot my blue printed Remy. 700 with an aftermarket stock and barrel in .243 caliber , bullets from 65 gr. to 85 grain. I put all of the shots inside of a dime at .100 yards.Liked it so much I just purchased another .243. A Sako ,1960 era. Varmite model. Reloading 95 gr. and 100 gr. ammo for it now.
  12. Has this young person ever hunted and / or fired a firearm before ?. There are some young people that are not into hunting and/ or shooting. If a regular size rifle fits him / her great, I would start off with a better quality rifle in .243 caliber, if they are not into hunting afterwood you could always sell it or any good gunsmith could re barrel or rechamber it for another caliber,
  13. Not too big for me, building one now that is 8' x 8' x 7' high. But with smaller windows. Right now I have my Barronett 350 blind sitting on the platform that is 8 ' high , I will finish it in the spring. And the deer do not mind it either, went to pull the cards from the cams around it and there were 8 deer bedded anywhere from 8 yards to 20 yards from it.
  14. If it has the dovetail mount on one end and the other end with a screw on each side, Make sure the screws are adjusted the same amount. Also I had 2 different semi auto's , older rifles to some now days. One the scope mounting screws on the receiver were drilled and tapped off center from the center of the bbl. and the other the hole in the receiver was drilled and tapped on an angle which the bbl. threaded into, which put the bbl. off to one side.
  15. X2 on what Grow said about a pond. Last year on the property there was a spot where water seeps out of the ground in the middle of the woods. I went and dug a little hole 5' x 10' x 2' deep with my bucket loader. In 1 day there was a foot of water in it, I set up a cam near it and have pictures of deer hitting it every day and all types of birds and furbearers. I went past it yesterday and it is filled up with tracks all around it. Hint, do not put it on the down side of of the ground right after clearing the woods. Did that to a larger one and it filled 1/2 way up with silt after the snow melt and heavy rains. ,the first year.
  16. 1st. How High . What your are asking for is not Cheap and not movable very easy. LOL.
  17. Been there don that , as they say. If you want to plant for this up coming hunting season., You better have a logging crew come in ( there is a lot of firewood there to be sold ) with a chipper ( there will be a lot of branches ) Then a good size Dozer and an excavator to get all of the stumps out ( I have some sitting 8 years and there not rotted out yet ) They will just wreck and any equpitment needed to prep the soil for planting. And they will not chase the deer into the next county, they will be there after the work crew leaves for the day feeding on branches and buds. As Grow said, Hope it is not full of shale and rocks. You want to get that ground tillable to a least 6" down. Grow. can fill you in as how to condition the soil.
  18. Yes around here , but at what distance ?. .308 is one of the calibers used in long distance shooting, say that someone that shoots in long distance matches an the will laugh in your face. I am picturing a mountain rifle as one that groups out to 300+ yards not the tipical NYS 100 to maby 200 yard shots.
  19. Why would you want to make a woods or brush gun length bbl. for that caliber ?. I have had 2 rifles made for shooting out west in the mountains one a .270 Wism. and the other a 6.4 x .284 Both made by well respected and long time gun smiths/ manif. the .270 had a 24" bbl. for 140 grain bullets and the other a 28" bbl. for the same weight bullet. Both made for 200 + yard shots.
  20. The factory sells a rifle barrel as 24" long for the caliber, twist rate and common weight bullets to be shot out of that rifle.
  21. The mallet thing NG. Might have to take it apart, Thanks. I would not go by the adds and comments about trail cams in mags. ect. I bought me last ones on pictures posted on this website and comments here from actual users. Pictures are good, battery life good, weather proof, use standard 8 gb. SanDicsk cards Do not need more then that memory , can put them in any of my computers to view and download. I strongly advise to buy and use the cable locks , not cheap but might just save the loss of the cam. Most are set up for there use.If you have been following the threads on here you will notice how many have complained about there cams dissapearing even on there own property.
  22. Picture from last week, looks like he put on weight for the winter. Yesterday when I went to pull the cards from the cams there were 8 does bedded down all around my ground blind. Looks like there hearding up. The buck was headed to where the does were bedded.
  23. Every new years eve my parents would have ( Sledzie ) Polish for pickled hearings. The said it would bring you good luck for the following year. Every year at this time the have various versions of them in jars at the local super market.
